How to grow long healthy hair: Although I can literally never decide between a cute bob and long luscious locks, I do know that regardless I want healthy, full hair. So I’m sharing with you all my own recommendations AND my hair guru’s ( @lily_tookey_hair ) recs on getting those healthy locks. It’s also been about 2 months since I started taking @nutrafol every day. Swipe for an early comparison of my problem area 1 month into supplementing and then nearly 2 months in. I’m so happy with the results and can’t wait to see what the next few months look like. Obviously you know MY number 1 tip is going to invest in a clinically studied hair supplement such as the one I take, but here are more tips from my hair expert! 😘 & for my Miami girls, GO SEE Lily @igksalons when salons open back up! (Just not too fast because I need to be the first one in her chair ) Lily’s Hair Growth tips: 1. DO NOT SHAMPOO DAILY!! 1-2x a week, 3x at the absolute most! Stripping your hair of its natural oils often will leave it dry + brittle which along with heat styling (use a heat protectant! ), can lead to breakage. 2. BRUSH HAIR OFTEN! Keeping your hair follicles stimulated increases blood flow which keeps them alive. When brushing start from ends & move up as tangles dissipate! This leads to less breakage. 3. HEALTHY DIET & WATER IN-TAKE! Hair, skin, & nails always reflect how you treat your body. Stress & high cortisol levels can cause hair loss. Big reason for dry scalp is dehydration! 4. ALWAYS USE HEAT PROTECTANT! When heat styling use a lower heat on hot tools! Remember heat styling puts stress on the hair so finding some ways to wear your hair in a style that doesn’t involve a hot tool 1-2x a week always helps! 5. CUT HAIR EVERY 3-6 MONTHS! the thing most woman hate to hear but is a MUST for healthy long hair, especially if you color your hair lighter! Hair doesn’t just break off...it breaks up!
With all this increased screen time it’s important to protect our skin from blue light! This HEV light (the visible light emitted from our electronic devices ) has been implicated in pigmentation, increased skin laxity and wrinkles. I’ve thought a lot about emotions and positivity these last few weeks. It’s easy to let your fear and anxiety swallow us and it sometimes even feels silly to feel “happy”. But staying positive is what will bring us through to the other side of this crisis. So, I’m taking part in the #SpreadBrightness campaign. Simple things like a freshly made bed and my morning coffee give me more joy now than ever. Looking for ways to amp up your routine while you’re spending time at home? Here are 5 things you can do the rev up your beauty game! 1. Start or increase your retinoid. Often times starting a retinoid or increasing your dose can result in mild peeling, now is the perfect adjustment period while you’re cooped up at home with no visitors! 2. Give your hair a break. Take this time to take a break from heat styling and nourish your hair. Also, consider starting a hair supplement like Nutrafol. 3. Ditch the makeup. Now is the perfect time to let your skin breathe and refrain from applying heavy makeup. Just apply some tinted SPF for protection and you’re good to go! 4. Use AHAs/BHA for at home “peels”. These ingredients are fantastic chemical exfoliants. They may already be present in your cleansing products so don’t be afraid to use them modestly and don’t be surprised if you have some visible flaking. BUT, they’re not for everyone… which brings me to my next tip... 5. Have your skin evaluated by a professional. Everyday life is BUSY, it’s hard to find time for yourself. But now that you have some increased downtime there’s no better opportunity to have your skin evaluated by a dermatology provider. You don’t want to waste all this time using the wrong products!
I’ve been taking advantage of this time at home by loading up on the Retin-A and peel pads 😂 (I have used Retin-A and AHAs/BHA daily for years so my skin is tolerant of these strong ingredients.* ) I’ve been peely for the last couple of days which is to be expected. Put on real clothes, did my hair, got in a @sweat app workout, had a virtual consult, and made a healthy smoothie ➡️ Does anyone else feel like this whole thing is such a rollercoaster? Some days I feel great and some days I could honestly cry all day. Every morning, though, this new normal gets easier and I try to remind myself how lucky we are 🙏🏼

Feeling so grateful for so many things these days. First and foremost my health and the health of my family. These are such uncertain times but there is so much to be grateful for. I’m so lucky to work with so many amazing people. On a group call someone brought up such a great point: how many times in life can you take time to step back and work on your passions? How true that is. Likely never again in our adult life will we be able to cut back on work and devote time to the things we’re most passionate about. I’m pretty darn lucky that for me my work and my passions are so intertwined. But if this doesn’t sound like you: take this time to do something you’ve always wanted to do. Take a class, study a language, learn to paint, learn to cook, overhaul your eating and fitness habits. Use this time to enrich your body and your mind 🙏🏼

Mine is called DSPW...one of the hardest to treat. That means I have dry, sensitive, pigmented, wrinkle-prone skin. This skin type is difficult and requires patience and a tailored regimen. The other day I posted that I use dry shampoo before a workout. My DMs blew up and you would have thought I had informed the public that the sky is green. So, why do I use dry shampoo, “before” I need it? Well, I find that when I apply dry shampoo after my hair is already sweaty and oily (ie. after a workout ) it can only do so much to remedy the scary situation. When I apply the dry shampoo BEFORE I intend to have increased oil and sweat production (working out, sitting by the pool, etc ) the product can get to work AS the oil is produced making it much more effective! I prefer to use a powder dry shampoo specifically versus the regular aerosol I use when styling. This product by @briogeo quickly became my favorite for its ease of use, compact packaging and effectiveness. I linked it on the @liketoknow .it app!
Trying to find the silver lining these next few weeks: 1. I’m learning how to “adapt” my work and become valuable in other ways than the daily duties I’ve been used to. 2. I’m able to make some extra time for myself to workout, read and cook healthy meals. 3. My dog has probably never been happier. 4. I’m getting back to this book I’ve been meaning to read. It’s easy when things are great to forget to nurture your faith; I’m not proud of that. But we’re all human. Times like this remind me to get back to the basics and remember that He has a greater plan. 5. I finally started doing TikToks, but now feel precisely 115 years old 👵🏼
Wearing a tinted mineral SPF is more important now than ever. Why? Most of us are spending WAY more time in front of a screen these next few weeks. Even if you’re not working from home, you’re more than likely spending more time facetiming family, browsing instagram, or binging your favorite Netflix shows. All of those devices emit high energy visible (HEV ) light or blue light. This light has been associated with increased signs of photoaging such as wrinkles, skin laxity and hyperpigmentation. No thanks. 👋🏼 Despite what many gimmicky products may want you to believe, a simple tinted sunscreen can help protect you from this visible light. Why? Iron oxides. Iron oxides are what make tinted sunscreen well… tinted; it’s what gives it pigment! And studies have shown that this ingredient offers protection from visible light like the light from your devices. (Those other ingredients are still crucial for your UVA and UVB protection, though! ) Research is still ongoing but everyone should apply a tinted SPF as the last step in their morning regimen in my opinion! There is some crazy stuff happening out there. I bet you never thought the great country of America would be in this situation but here we are. My friends working in hospitals are out of protective gear. One was forced to MAKE PPE with mattress topper and laminating sheets from an office supply store. WHAT. Please. Please. FOLLOW THE CDC GUIDELINES on who should present to the hospital and who should quarantine at home. You will likely not get tested and you risk infecting others. Furthermore, precious PPE will have to be used to examine you... or worse, inappropriate PPE risking the provider’s health and safety. And guess what. WE NEED THEM TO BE HEALTHY. Today is the first day of Spring. It seems kind of funny doesn’t it? Maybe funny isn’t the right word.. I feel stifled, buried even. I feel like nothing will ever be the same. I feel as though the life I knew just a week ago is no longer. It feels dark. Even in the sun... it feels black. I’m anxious and I’m scared. It all feels like a bad dream I need to wake up from. How did this happen? Things like this DON’T happen. But it is happening. I think it’s ok to feel these things. I think it’s okay to cry. Then we have to pick up and keep moving, like we always do. It’s the first day of Spring and we’re buried. But we will grow 🌱.
