Let's stay at home! Bats in all of the American continent do not transmit the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 nor the COVID-19 disease. The problem is in the consumption of wild bush meat, where the probability of transmitting unknown diseases is high, like what is happening now. We cannot blame bats or any other animal, the problem born from us humans. Let’s do not spread the virus by leaving and adopt the recommendations of competent national and international health agencies. In the photo, a Vieira’s Flower Bat (Xeronycteris vieirai ) stretches out its tongue before the colony emerges at night in search of nectar and pollen in a Caatinga dry forest in northeastern Brazil. #bat #batsofinstagram #batconservation #chiroptera #murcielago #morcego #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #bbcbrasil #natgeobrasil #natgeoyourshot #natgeoexplorer #coronavirus #covid_19 #bushmeat #stopbushmeat #conservation #protectbats #fauna #faunabrasileira #stayathome #stayhome

———————— Well, after capturing more than 4000 bats of 33 species, in 6 areas, 20 collection points and more than 20 caves from 2016-2019 in Brazil, I finished and defended the doctorate last week. Best 9 photos of the year. Thanks to all the people who liked and commented my photos. Photography is a powerful tool to uplift consciousness in people about the importance of every organism in this wonderful planet. To prevent that global warming get worse, we urgently need to make changes in our diet, such as reducing meat consumption, buying organic and sustainable products, and changing the way we move without the need for fossil fuels. These are a some small but significant behaviors to help preserve the living beings and the natural resources of which we all depend. If we don’t make a change now, the only memory of these extraordinary organisms will be only in a photograph. Hope this decade things changes for good, happy new year!! #best9of2019 #bestnine2019 #bestnine #newyear #happynewyear #2019 #2020 #wildlifephotography #conservation #savetheplanet #wildanimals #animals #animales #conservation #conservationbiology #conservationphotography

The black howler (Alouatta caraya ) (also known as black-and-gold howler ) is a species of monkey found from Argentina, Bolívia, Brazil, and Paraguay, being the howler monkey with the southernmost distribution in South America. Only the adult male is black; adult females and juveniles of both genders are overall whitish to yellowish-buff. Their habitat are forested areas, especially semi-deciduous and gallery stands. Black howlers eat mostly leaves and occasionally fruits, such as figs. I spotted this troop in southern Paraguay. #monkey #monkeys #howlermonkey #howler #primate #mono #macaco #guariba #bugio #nature #naturephoto #wildlife #wildlifephotography #fauna #mataatlantica #paraguay #monoaullador #worldmonkeyday #animales #wildanimals #mammalsofinstagram #monkeysofinstagram #monkeysoftheworld #macacosdobrasil

Very happy that my two photos were selected in the best 15 photos of the flora and fauna photo contest organized by @matadossaguis , the photos were selected among other 98 photos, by technical jury and approximately 450 people who voted. Thanks to @morcegospotiguares for fundings. Photo 1 ) A female of the fruit-eating bat Artibeus planirostris trying to cover its already big pup under her wing in its cave roost. Photo 2. A Bare-tailed Woolly Opossum (Caluromys philander ) searching for sweet nectar of an inflorescence of an Agave plant in a residential neighborhood south Natal. Thanks to @matadossaguis and @paulivinho and collaborators, with this great initiative to promote the natural heritage of Rio Grande do Norte State in northeastern Brazil. #wildlife #wildlifephotography #bats #bat #batsofinstagram #mammals #opossum #brazil #brasil #fauna #faunadobrasil #natgeoyourshot #natgeoexplorer #potiguar #faunapotiguar #riograndedonorte #matadossaguisufrn #concursofotografico #photocontests #morcegos #murcielagos #nordestinos #nordestebrasileiro #mammalsofinstagram #chiroptera #naturephotography #nature #naturelover #wildlifelovers

Did you know that in most bat species, females carry and give birth to a single pup per litter. In the picture, a female and her cub of Brazil's smallest bat, Furipterus horrens, which can weigh only 2.5 to 3 grams. Still small at birth, a bat pup can usually have up to 40% of its mother's weight!! I took this foto in a small cave in Felipe Guerra municipality in Rio Grande do Norte State in northeastern Brazil. #morcego #quiropteros #morcegos #bat #bats #morcegosdobrasil #fauna #faunabrasileira #mamae #filhote #pesogrande #cavernas #potiguar #mamiferos #mamifero #mamiferosdobrasil #mamíferododia #natgeo #natgeoyourshot #natgeoexplorer #batconservation #batconservationinternational #wildlife #wildlifephotography #chiroptera #natgeobrasil #bbcbrasil #wildlifeonearth

The #batmonth is ending and wanted to share about on of my favorite bat species, the Thumbless bat (Furipterus horrens ). Is a small, delicate bat (in fact the smallest bat of the Neotropics ) that weights from 2.5-3g, and with a particular characteristic, it’s thumbs are reduced and almost covered by the wing membrane. They roosts mostly in underground cavities and in Brazil is considered a vulnerable species. It feeds on insects but we really know little about its biology and natural history. It has a moth-like flight and emits a very high frequency echolocation which enables them to have a lot of details of their surroundings, hence makes them very difficult to detect or capture in his natural habitat. I’m pretty sure that few bat biologist have had the opportunity to see or handle this bat, so it was for me a very special moment every time I got the opportunity to see and photograph this amazing animal. #bat #bats #chiroptera #chiropterology #mammal #mammalsofinstagram #smallanimal #batconservation #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #naturephotography #natureportrait #rareanimals #morcego #murcielago #natgeobrasil #natgeoexplorer #nikon #batappreciationday #batappreciationmonth #nikond5600 #d5600

#batappreciationmonth #batappreciationday #murcielago #murcielagos #chiroptera #chiropterology #mammals #ecosystemservices #batsofinstagram #morcego #wildlife_photography #october #conservation #batconservation #batconservationinternational #fledermaus #pipistrello #natgeobrasil #natgeoexplorers

In tropical semi-arid environments, cactus are, in general, dominant plants in the landscape where some species can reach more than 5m high. Nectar-feeding Bats are one of the main nocturnal visitors of cacti flowers, which are open only at night. Bats introduce their snout into the flower seeking for the sweet nectar, the flower leaves the pollen all over the bat face and body and depending of the plant species, it’s amazing to see the pollen in different parts of the bat’s head and body. Such interaction is key to the stability of these ecosystems because bats are one of the few of animals that pollinate this plants in this harsh environment. Photos taken in the Caatinga, a semi-arid domain found only in northeastern Brazil. Saw this nice White-tailed Hawk (Geranoaetus albicaudatus ) perched on this concrete pole right next to the street in the peri-urban area of Mossoró in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Its preferred hunting technique is to hover and observe the surroundings for signs of potential prey, gliding to another place when nothing is found. Because of this behavior, this bird of prey is more common to be observed soaring high in the sky, sometimes associated to flying flocks of vultures, rather than perched. That’s why a stopped the car to take a couple of shots before the #hawk flew away. #hawks #bird #birds #yourshotphotographer #nuts_about_birds #birding #aves #gaviao #gavian #whitetailedhawk #wild #wildlife #wildlifephotography #birdingphotography #birdphotography #accipitridae #nikonwildlife #nikonwildlifephotography #animal #animalphotography #wildlife_perfection #planetbirbirdingphotographyds #birdwatching #birdwatcher #naturephotography #nature #naturelovers #accipitriformes

Last month while collecting data on the field in the #caatinga dry forest in Rio Grande do Norte, northeastern Brazil, I found this nice frog with its orange colored eyes looking at me sitting on top of a fallen tree. Is a tree frog called Scinax x-signatus or Venezuelan Snouted Treefrog. A very common frog found in a wide variety of habitats such as savannas, forest edges, and open areas, hence very adaptable to habitat modification. #frog #wildlife #wildlife_photography #rana #frogs #herpetologia #herpethology #anphibian #anfibios #anfibiosdobrasil #animal #rana #scinaxxsignatus #brasil #photography #photowildlife #wildlife_shots #herpetogram #perereca #nikon #d5600 #anura #anuran #anfibio #frogsoftheworld #wildlife_captures #wildlifeonearth #animalphotography
