Its Technique Thursday 💪🏽 . Now this may not be an actually “technique” video, but this is to show you how to properly warm-up your shoulders before any kind of upper body work. . I know A LOT of us (YES, ME INCLUDED ) are guilty for not always properly warming up our bodies for workouts with a bunch of different excuses 🙄 What we need to keep in the back of our heads is that if we “don’t” warm up our bodies prior to working out we become more prone to injury and I know that’s the last thing that anyone of us want to deal with 🙃 . These exercises are meant to warmup, mobilize, and strengthen your shoulders. The great thing about these shoulder exercises is that they can also be used when rehabbing a shoulder injury . Elbows should be kept straight for the most part while you’re working through your shoulders. It is very important to keep your core tight and stable. Getting bckonmytoes with one barre exercise at a time! This may look like a simple warm-up exercise to you but it was actually much more than that to me. Each bend of the knee, each push of my arches really made me feel like I’m starting to talk to myself again and that I am attuned to myself again. 🔹 POSTERIOR PREP 🔹 Get the back of the body ready to go... ▫️▫️▫️ Moving on to a posterior focus the next week or two, starting with the warmup/prep series I used for one of my BOB (Back Of Body ) Posterior Workouts that I’ll share this week. - Posterior Workout MMA: 1️⃣ Standing Back Flick 2️⃣ Stork Runners Reach 3️⃣ Bridge & Shoulder Rotation 4️⃣ Bridge Mini Walkouts 5️⃣ Skydiver Transitions Reps are usually determined in the moment by feel, but typically range from 10-20. Depending on how things are feeling or what the goal is this can be 1-3 rounds. 💫 Hamstring Mobility - Correct Your Technique - ❓ The hamstrings are often tight and require stretching prior to exercise or post injury. However, when you are stretching your hamstrings are you really doing so? - 😬 Given the anatomical orientation of the sciatic nerve, it is very easy to believe you are stretching the hamstrings when, in reality, you are placing tension on the nerve. No beuno! - ⚡️If the nerve is irritated then you will feel tingling or have your leg “fall asleep.” Also, if you are stretching the sciatic nerve, you will feel tension behind the knee. Instead, you want to feel a muscular stretch in the back of your thigh or near your butt bone. - 👌 To ensure that you are stretching your hamstrings place a 20-30 degree bend in your knee. The above exercises are examples of some of my favorite hamstring mobility exercises. LOWER BODY & CORE WARMUP You want to remain injury free but lift 300-400 pounds on hip thrusts, deadlifts or squats?? I know this seems boring and not as fun as your typical workouts BUT it is key to remain injury free as well as having full range of motion during your lifts. WARM UP TIPS 🔥 - Most of neglect a warm up and say things like “I just don’t have time” ⏰ - Just the other day I fell into the same trap as everyone else. I was short on time, did a half ass warm up. Starting with some upper body movements and sure enough shoulder pain and a strain in my pec began... - I literally stopped my workout, spent 10 minutes warming up, got back after it, and felt great. If I would have done that to start it would have actually saved me more time‼️ - So if your tight on time or are looking for a great way to warm up without taking much time... here is the way to go 👇🏻 👇🏻 - 1️⃣: always get blood flow going! I don’t care if it’s upper body and your on a bike. Just get moving and break a sweat. I often wear a thick sweatshirt for the first 10 minutes just to sweat - 2️⃣: stop static stretching. There is a time and place but if your short on time and want to get a quick warm up get active. - 3️⃣: simulate the movements you are going to train. If your hitting press movements, do a press movement in your warm up! Grab some resistance bands and simulate the movements - 4️⃣: take your first set of whatever workout your beginning with and do 20-30 slow controlled light weight reps through a FULL range of motion. (I will do 20-30 reps with the bar on squats or bench before putting on any weights ) - Tag your gym buddy below 💪🏻

What makes for a good warm up??? Depending on what your session entails, for me personally I like to include movements that mimic the same movement patterns included in the session. Particularly on a leg day, I’ll put a lot of focus on glute activation and dynamic movements as opposed to static stretching (which inhibits muscles prior to our session ) 1️⃣banded good mornings 2️⃣good morning to squat (personal fave ) 3️⃣banded clams (my knees were slightly higher than I’d prefer as this puts my my hips in flexion too much ) 4️⃣banded stiff kickbacks (great movement to get the glutes fired up ) 5️⃣banded side steps 6️⃣leg swings Including a mix of abduction, external rotation and hip extension is a good way to go for a leg day🏋🏼‍♀️🏋🏼‍♀️ If you’re squatting heavy, it would be a good idea to include a core activation circuit also, the core protects the spine and a lot of people are prone to lower back issues so the ‘bird-dog’ is also a GREAT movement to include in any warm up👏🏼 Sometimes when I get lazy I don’t put in as much time into my warm up which is literally the worst thing to do especially if you’re training at a higher intensity like heavy squatting. Move it or lose it as they say, don’t be lazy and warm uppppp🙌🏼
