🔥HOW TO: FOAM ROLL YOUR LOWER BODY🔥 _ Following on from my previous post about upper body stretching these will target your lower body. Mobility, stretching and flexibility have a huge part to play in your overall health and well-being, especially in your lower body. A lot of joint pain in your lower half can be alleviated somewhat with a less tight muscle. Again by using SMR (Self Myofasical Release ) you can really target the areas with any pressure points and help relieve the tension 1️⃣ QUADRICEPS 📌 Start with the roller underneath your quad at either end 📌 Keep your foot off of the floor and stabilise yourself with your other leg and hands 📌 Try to put as much pressure as you can onto the quad to get the roller as deep into the muscle as possible 📌 Roll forward & back slowly 2️⃣ IT BAND 📌 Start slightly on your side with the roller midway up the outside of your thigh (think the seam on trousers ) 📌 Support yourself by crossing your leg over and planting your foot the other side as well as propping yourself up with your hand 📌 Rest your other hand in your knee to support yourself as you roll slowly up to your Glutes and back 3️⃣ GLUTES 📌 Start with the roller underneath your cake 🎂😛 📌 Keep yourself propped up the same way you did for the IT Band and support yourself with both hands 📌 Roll slightly forward and back in your Glutes applying as much pressure as possible 4️⃣ HAMSTRINGS 📌 Start with the roller underneath your hamstring, with your other foot sat comfortably on top of your thigh 📌 Supporting yourself with your hands roll slowly forward and back 📌As always focusing on any trigger points or tender areas 5️⃣ CALVES 📌 Only to be done if you actually train calves, so 3% of you 📌 Set yourself up in the same way as you would for the hamstrings but with the roller underneath your calf 📌 Keep rolling slowly up and down keeping your toes slightly pointed As with any stretching or foam rolling there is no specific time limit or number of rolls you should do. But I would suggest to spend a good 5-10 minutes on each area with a firm foam roller I’m using the Blue roller from @rollgahealth which was kindly #Gifted to me 🙏🏻

🔥Oh the warmup... the older I get, the more important I realize it is. It seems to me there are three warmup strategies. 1 ) Walks into the gym, touches toes twice and starts slapping on weights. 2 ) Performs arbitrary cardio exercise before getting started. 3 ) Takes 45 minutes to roll, smash, and “release” every muscle before performing an intense ritual of what appears to be dance, yoga, mobility, or an exorcism then they are too fatigued for optimal performance on working sets. Did I miss any?

💣Deadlift Warm-Up💣 — — ◾️My deadlift warm-up is similar to most of my warm-ups and has a few simple steps before picking up the bar. — — ◾️First, I spend a little time mobilizing the areas that need to be mobile for the deadlift itself, like the hips, hamstrings and spine. I focus a little more on whatever is feeling stiff on any given day. If you pull sumo, make sure you give that groin some love too! — ◾️Second, I like to warmup the muscles that are needed for the deadlift: glutes, hamstrings, quads, adductors (esp. if you pull sumo ), spinal erectors/paraspinals (includes rhomboid/mid trap/lats for retraction of shoulder blades & keeping bar close ), and of course the core. This is to prepare your body for heavier loads. — ◾️Last, is of course the deadlift itself, as it makes sense to do a few with just the bar, or the bar plus some light weight before adding a ton of weight to the bar, this will ensure that your nervous system is primed and ready to handle the heavier weights. — — 💯The Complete Warm-Up (only do 1 set of each unless you feel you need more work on one area or another ): 1️⃣ World’s Greatest Stretch 2️⃣ Bird Dogs with iso hold 3️⃣ Banded RDL + Jefferson RDL (this is to get your body ready to be able to tolerate a little amount of spinal flexion, as neutral is a range and when you’re pulling a PR it’s almost impossible to not have a little rounding ) 4️⃣ Kneeling Lat Pulldown 5️⃣ Straight Arm Lat Pulldown 6️⃣ Barbell Good Morning 7️⃣ Barbell Rows 8️⃣ Barbell RDL 9️⃣ Deadlift (not shown ) — — ***If you pull sumo I would add in some Cossack squats*** — — ◾️In my opinion, this type of warm-up helps way more than just foam rolling or stretching a few minutes before you deadlift. — — Tag a friend who likes to lift & could use these deadlift warm-up tips. — Comment below & let me know what you think — — @clinicalathlete #clinicalathlete #deadliftday #deadlift #deadliftwarmup #legday #warmup #liftingwarmup #kneemobility #hipmobility #mobility #glutestrength #hipstrength #strengthcoach #physio #physicaltherapy

Activation Work ___ When working with clients I almost always take them through a 10 minute joint by joint mobility and then a secondary warmup, or activation to ensure the mind and body are ready to take on the challenges of the main workout. I think this time is necessary because it allows one to self-asses how they are feeling and also gives them time to explore human movement. It is a good way to prepare oneself for a solid day of work. In the videos above you can see one of my small groups moving through 3 exercises that made up their secondary warm-up. After these two rounds they were more than ready to lift heavy and complete the strength workout of the day. I was just thinking how good it is to warm up before the run. Not only it prepares your body but your mind too. If you are struggling with motivation - do a little warm up and go. Do your knees ever cave in during your squats 😬 . While it may seem "normal" or "fine" since even the knees of many elite athletes cave in during their squats, this is actually not the natural or safe range of motion for our knees. 🙈 Even if you're not experiencing pain right now, over a prolonged period of time squatting like that, your knees will eventually hurt somehow. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Even the smallest wobble of the knee shifts a ton of load in the wrong direction. 😥 . If you find your knees wobbling a lot, try implementing some knee stability exercises into your warmup routine. 🙌 Let me know if you'd be interested in more options to work with, but here's one to start with: The RNT lunge! 🔥Attach a light band knee height. With the leg away from the pole, slip into the band. Step back with your opposite foot into the bottom of the lunge. Go slowly! And as you do so, focus on minimizing knee wobble. The band is going to pull your knee in so you have to fight against it to keep it tracking over your toes! 😁 . As with many other movement corrections, a little can go a long way. Do a set or two every day before you squat and you may find those knees aching less in no time. 🎉 I hope this is helpful!
