📍Roys Peak, New Zealand One of the most beautiful hikes I've done so far 😍 I did the hike during the night, so that I can see the sunrise on top of the mountain. It takes you about 3 hours to walk up. But if you're on top it's definetly worth it. Another reason to walk in the night is, that you can see a beautiful sky with lots of stars and the milkyway⭐And don't forget to take warm clothes with you. It's really cold there in the morning. . . . . . #wanaka #royspeak #royspeakview #travelnewzealand #travelsouthisland #southislandnewzealand #mountainview #sunriseonthemountain #wheredoyougonext

PINCH ME. New Zealand doing what it does best, looking insanely beautiful. I’m just back from a long weekend of photography with buddies @laurie_winter and @a .d.f.photography and this was the last stop on a whirlwind 3 days covering some crazy distances to try and get the best conditions we could given a pretty rubbish weather forecast. For example, leaving Kaikoura at lunchtime yesterday travelling 4.5 hours to Ashburton Lakes on the hope we’d capture something at sunset or sunrise. Both were a total washout but we hung around anyway and 2 hours after sunrise this happened 😱 Such incredible light and clouds with the peak of Mt D’Archaic taking centre stage, a scene that will be burned in my memories for some time to come 🙌🏻 . 📷 Sony A7RIV + 70-300 lens @ 168mm 📸: 1/60 sec f/8 ISO 100 @kasefiltersnz K9 100mm Magnetic CPL & 0.9 GND . #nz #newzealand #nzmustdo #reflectiongram #splendid_reflections #reflecting_perfection #bns_reflection #loves_reflections #ic_reflections #reflection_shotz #insta_sky_reflection #reflection #mountaintop #mountain #lake #outdoortones #earth_magic #mountains 🗻 #mountaingirls #mountainstories #sunrise #goldenlight #destinationnz #gottalovenz #newzealandvacations #newzealandfinds #kiwipics #bns_mountains #goldenhour #travelnewzealand

This week we were blessed with incredible sunrises, sunsets with no wind or rain which is always a bonus for Wellington. Chloé got poorly - not covid! but recovered just in time for the weekend... We found a new pub that's going to be our local. Ate some delicious food with friends and sadly said goodbye to our house mate Frances and Rogie as they moved back to Auckland :( Decided to finally visit Matiu / Somes Island which we can see from our house, we discovered that the island was filled with history and was super interesting to visit. Another great week in the land of the long white cloud! See you next week 🤙🏼

Some images from the West Coast of New Zealand where I don’t think it stopped raining the whole time we were there. The small towns and the winding roads remind me a lot of Tasmania’s West Coast just with bigger mountains! Beautiful place to explore when the mood sets in.

🇬🇧 "All dreams are crazy, until they come true!" 🤩 One of this dreams for Chris was always to fly with a helicopter to a mountain summit and ski down in untouched powder snow. ⛷️ It makes it even more unforgettable to fulfill this dream on the other side of the world in New Zealand, with perfect conditions and this stunning view. What's on your bucketlist and waits to be done? 💪🏻 . . 💪🏻 . . . . . #heliskiing #mountaspiringnationalpark #robroyglacier #skifoan #lakewanakanz #theoutdoorpassion #thewanderco #iamtb #mountainstones #exploretocreate #uniladadventure #hikingnz #allaboutadventures #toms_week #stayandwander #agameoftones #reisenistschön #weltreise2020 #nzmustdo #nzmustsee #nomadict #newzealandroadtrip #southernalps #realmiddleearth #newzealandgram #newzealandguide #travelnewzealand #rsa_outdoors #eclectic_shotz #lensbible

“If you’re going to the North Island, be sure to ride the Timber Trail!”. About 8 other cyclists said about the same thing when discussing routes with them, the Timber Trail was the cycle gem of the North Island. Not too much convincing was thus needed to include it on our route. . The trail follows an old abandoned timber railway line, wiggles through some of the few patches of native forest remaining on the North Island, but its trump card to overwhelm all those who cycle it are the series of huge suspension bridges that cross the many gorges. It literally felt like flying across the forest on your bike and often we’d turn around to make not 1 crossing but 3! Unfortunately the weather was quite miserable and it rained for 36 hours straight, so we took a rest day halfway to try and sit it out. And what do you do when you have a rainy day, a shelter, a fire and a tiny pair of emergency kit scissors? Right! Cut Tom’s hair! Sabine was quite tempted to finish it as in the last photo 🙈. Good first Monday of August everyone!⠀ Here is a Hall arm of the Doubtful Sound for you with mount Danae in background if I'm correct.⠀ It's so 'nowhere' that you can get there only by boat, I guess.

~Adventure in the dark~ This is the number one image I had in mind for this year's roadie. It was perfect condition except that it was getting to low tide. So the water reflection kept changing. I didn't realise this soon enough, so my planned foreground shots were out of whack! Lesson learnt! Check the tide before you come and shoot in the dark. Gum boots would have been useful, but I left mine in Auckland.Another oops... It was a brilliant night, or morning should I say, went to bed at 3am stoked, having 2 astro shots in the bag. (see my last post )

Next stop...📍Kaikoura Tomorrow we begin our drive back to the ferry and the North Island for the final leg of our road trip. But first, it’s time to hop back in the car and drive an hour or so to one of New Zealand’s wildlife hot spots, Kaikoura. Kaikoura has had it’s fair share of devastation and the 2016 earthquake left two people dead and triggered a small tsunami which reached a peak height of about 7 metres. Some of the bay and its surrounds were uplifted by as much as 2m and this resulted in the road to Kaikoura being damaged and closed for some time. It took the small town a number of years to get back on its feet after such a drop in tourism numbers due to the closed inbound road. However, in true New Zealand style, Kaikoura has repaired and reinvented itself and tourists have returned to see the resident marine life and stunning scenes. This coastal town sits between the Seaward Kaikōura Range and the Pacific Ocean and is a marine life lovers dream! Join a boat cruise and keep your eyes peeled for Sperm Whales and pods of Dolphins. Wander the 11km Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway for stunning views of Kaikoura’s Range, seal colonies bathing on rocks and pockets of history to read up on. Kayak or swim with locals seals or view the whole scene from above with a scenic flight or helicopter experience! Not only famous for its amazing local wildlife, Kaikoura also proudly boasts some of New Zealand’s best local cuisine. If seafood is your thing then you will be spoilt for choice for places to eat. We recommend Nin’s Bin, the famous crayfish caravan, for your Crayfish fix. In fact, in the Māori language 'kai' means food and 'kōura' means crayfish! Ta-da! For something a little different, journey to Lavendyl Lavender Farm just outside Kaikoura’s centre. It’s the perfect place to indulge your senses and treat your taste buds. Take a stroll through the stunning Lavender fields, relax in the quaint café or watch the distillation process to find out how Lavender oil is made! Next stop...📍Te Anau Today we set off for the spectacular Fiordland region of New Zealand, to reach Te Anau. Along the way we will bypass Queenstown and head straight to delightful Arrowtown. Arrowtown is just 20 mins from Queenstown, but a World away in terms of atmosphere, and one of the most picturesque settlements in New Zealand. Arrowtown was established during the Otago gold rush in 1862 and is steeped in history. Up to 60 of the original buildings built during this time are still standing + have been artfully restored. These beautiful churches, cottages, shops and hotels possess so much character and charm that it’s impossible not to fall in love with this place. If you’re visiting during April or May then you’re in for a treat as the town becomes golden with fallen leaves. The end of April sees the Akarua Arrowtown Autumn Festival to celebrate Arrowtown’s seasonal beauty - the event includes parades, art exhibitions + dog shows as well as the Pie, Pint and Pinot event! After enjoying a coffee by the river, it’s back on the road for a couple of hours down to Te Anau. You can expect astonishing views during this drive as you pass through Frankton + along Lake Wakatipu approaching the Fiordland National Park. Te Anau is known as the 'Gateway to Fiordland' and is the main base for this glacier carved wilderness. This pretty town lies on the edge of Lake Te Anau, the largest lake in the South Island, surrounded by spectacular mountains. Most visitors to Te Anau will be heading to the magical Milford Sound but Te Anau also has a lot to offer! It’s a great starting point for keen hikers taking on the Milford, Keppler or Routeburn tracks. There are some great fishing spots, scenic flights, lake cruises, kayaking and a bird sanctuary. For those unable to get to Waitomo, the Te Anau Glowworm Caves are a fantastic alternative. Tours start with a cruise along Lake Te Anau to the fascinating caves system. You’ll be awestruck by hundreds of tiny glowworms in the grotto below as you glide through these relatively new caves (only 12,000 years old! ) Photo by @paulfencaros #teanau #teanaulake #arrowtown #arrowtownnz #fiordland #lovefiordland #nzsouthisland
