I took this last night, but I’m finding it somewhat therapeutic doing my lesson plans in the early afternoon/evening. I just wish I was more of a morning person so I wouldn’t have to do it at night 😂 does anyone else feel like this? #teachersofinstagram #teacherofenglish #secondaryteacher #teacherlife #teachergram 🍎

I would really appreciate it if any could share their strategies and how the children responded to it. #research #primaryteacher #primaryeducation #keystage2 #keystage1 #children #teachersofinstagram #teachers #mastery #teachingstrategies #primaryeducation

GM Teammates, Professionalism does not mean silence. We quietly support visions that are aligned to personal agendas rather than school success. We sit in meetings shaking our heads instead of speaking up. Flying below the radar is not only safe, it’s a disservice to ourselves and our school community. We eventually leave these toxic schools in hopes for greener pastures rather than remaining planted and being the change by speaking up. This is a reminder that professionalism does not mean silence. It is vital to speak up while at work. We already do this with our trusted colleagues. But we must move these conversations into our team meetings. Our PLCs. Our PDs. Your committees. Sit down with your administrative team. If you hear someone speaking up and you agree, affirm them/amplify them. This is how we push the needle. Say it with shaky a voice. Say it even if you are alone. Please don’t concern yourself with how it will be received. Just bring it to the table. We are charged to do what is right, not fo do what is popular. This is how complacency sets in. If it’s not adding up, I encourage you to gain clarity. This is a way to open the door to a larger conversation. Professionalism does not mean silence. How do you feel about conditioned silence in the workplace?

Diwali or the Festival of Light is a wonderful holiday celebration many of your students may celebrate every year. If you're not familiar with this holiday it can be hard to include it into your teaching practice but it's so important to bring many multicultural celebrations into your inclusive classroom. These colour by number activities are so much fun and will help your students create some lovely works of art for the classroom wall. Click the link in my profile to view more.

What if more children had access to literacy resources at home?🤔 • Urby Education focuses on ALL stakeholders. The staff and parents received my Early Literacy 101 training. BUT LET ME FINISH!😉 • Now their students/children have access to literacy rich activities at home.🚀 • The 50 Million Word Gap starts before kindergarten. If parents had training and resources on how to build early literacy skills, then perhaps we could work more effectively on closing the reading gap. • That's how Urby's Lit Kits came about. My boys packed my kits with love. On to the next organization!💗 • Want to support? 9 times out of 10 I laugh at my own jokes before anyone else can.🤪 October has been 𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑. Laughter is truly what has kept me sane - at the end or beginning of class, I’ve been letting a student tell a joke, the jokes are usually pretty terrible so I either laugh at them or with them, they don’t know the difference.😅 𝚃𝚎𝚕𝚕 𝚖𝚎 𝚊 𝚌𝚘𝚛𝚗𝚢 𝚓𝚘𝚔𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚕𝚘𝚠!!

I typically use this platform as a positive place, but it has been hard to stay positive while teaching in 2020 during a pandemic. I always want to be real here & not make it “picture perfect” or like I have everything together when that is 100% not the case.⁣ ⁣ I am struggling. It is hard going to school every day knowing I am not giving my best to my students because it is physically impossible when we are being pulled a million directions a minute.⁣ ⁣ Virtual teaching is hard. Hybrid teaching is hard. Teaching a room full of students wearing masks is hard. Teaching in a normal, non-pandemic year is hard. This is all hard. ⁣ ⁣ The “vibe” of teaching has changed drastically in the last 9 months. We went from being superheroes when we made our classrooms virtual in the blink of an eye in March, to being told we have to teach in person, virtually, & asynchronously at the same time with no training or guidance. Just talking with my friends, family, coworkers, peers, random strangers in the internet, & teachers I follow on social media, I am worried about our profession. I am worried about educators. I am worried about administrators.⁣ I am worried about students. ⁣ I can’t speak for everyone, but I became a teacher for 3 reasons. 1️⃣I saw my mom, an educator of 39 years, love her job every single day & I looked up to that so much. 2️⃣I have a passion for making learning (specifically science ) engaging, exciting, & meaningful for students. 3️⃣Plain & simply: I just love kids. It feels like teaching in 2020 is taking away everything I love about teaching. ⁣ ⁣ Unfortunately, I have no solutions to these problems. (& no I am not going anywhere or leaving this profession!!!! ) I am just here to say you are not alone. Whatever you are feeling is valid. Something has to change.

Tips for studying for your Masters/PhD oral defence! Studying smarter not harder💡! . I am currently 3 weeks away from my oral PhD defence🎉! During this time of crazy studying I have received an overload of requests asking to showcase how Im studying for my oral defence. . 📑 First off, I am a pen and paper kind of gal! Reading off of a screen and typing notes has never been my thing (Since my undergrad, it’s just not how I retain info ). That being said, step 1️⃣ was printing my entire thesis, putting it into a binder, and tabbing each of the chapters. . Next, the first 2 weeks of studying was dedicated to my lit review. I went sections by section through my intro (one section a day ) and re-read all of the references I used. I made additional notes on each, and answered anticipated questions regarding each topic. Once finished, I made piles of papers for each topic for easy reference moving forward. . Now, I am going through each of my chapters (my published papers ) and reviewing all of the methodology I carried. As I read though, I am thinking of potential questions and answers. I am also reviewing all of the connections made from one paper to the next and thinking of experiments I would do next. Since my thesis is composed of all of my peer-reviewed publications, my PI anticipates more questions will be theoretical in nature and focused on the background of my research. So, bring on the parasite theory 😭! . Finally, as I study topics not explicitly stated in my thesis, I am making sure not to “over study” and clog my brain with unnecessary facts. I am studying enough to answer questions about that topic and then moving onto the next. If you don’t do this, you can catch yourself going down a long rabbit hole.
