. . #dexcom #dexcomg6 #diabetestipo1 #typeonediabetes #t1dlookslikeme #type1diabetes #typeonediabetic #diabetesawareness #type1warrior #t1dadvocate #t1dathlete #chronicillness #girlswithgadgets #insulinpump #bombadeinsulina #t1dwarrior #diabeticlife #diabetescommunity #diabetesesp #autoimmunedisease #deadpancreasgang #reflexionesdeunadiabetica #sugarpush #diabadass #diabetes #mcg #cgm #diabetica

Did you get your run in today? How was is? • After a couple days of cold, rainy weather, the temperature was perfect this morning and it was so nice to see the sun break through the clouds. • Bloodsugar started at 245 and ended at 85 - about as perfect as bloodsugar can go for an activity! • #t1dayeinthelife #t1diabetes #curediabetes #diabetes #t1dfit #t1dathlete #t1drunner #runningmotivation #running #newalbany #newalbanyohio #run4none #dexcomwarrior #t1dathlete #t1drunner #running #instarunner #instarunners #greattobealive #runstagram #type1diabetes #bloodsugar #diabetes #diabadass #t1d #beyondtype1 #beyondtypeone #cgm #dexcom #t1dstrong #dexcomwarrior #hydration #insulin #10miles

💯 Vegan. 💯 Satisfying. 💯 Delicious. • What did you have for dinner? • Here we have a baked potato on a bed of cauliflower rice, brussel sprouts, chickpeas, sun dried tomatoes, and hemp hearts! • I normally avoid potatoes but with bloodsugar sinking low, it was a great opportunity to devour one. The only thing missing was my Tofutti vegan sour cream! This should be solid fuel for tomorrow’s run. • #vegan #run4none #runtoeat #plantbased #mealoftheday #veganfood #vegans #veganlife #runner #xtremerunnerslife #t1dathlete #t1drunner #runningmotivation #runhappy #running #community #instarunner #instarunners #sundriedtomatoes #plantbased #glutenfree #gf #cauliflower #cauliflowerrice #delicious #potato #beyondtypeone #t1d #tofutti #t1dawareness #dinner @manitobaharvest

For those of you considering ways to support your child’s management of misinformed comments: ⤵️ ⚠️Disclaimer: Of course it’s always ok to handle these comments in whatever way you feel comfortable in any given situation—ignore, educate, laugh it off—whatever. Stay true to what you’re comfortable with. Always. 💙 ☝️That said, I wanted to share some ideas for helping your child manage something that can be difficult... even for adults! 👉 1️⃣ Be proactive. Tell your child all about some of the silly (or maybe even hurtful ) questions they might get or overhear about T1D. Preparation can protect your child’s feelings in a big way. 👉 2️⃣ Explain where some of these misunderstandings come from. If developmentally appropriate, it may help to explain some of the differences between T1D and T2D or to acknowledge the hundreds of chronic conditions that maybe you don’t know very much about either. 👉 3️⃣ Explain that most of the time people are *misinformed* not cruel, mean, or insensitive (though we do know of course some times you’ll encounter those folks too ). We want your child to know that just because someone misunderstands diabetes, it doesn’t mean they don’t want to help 🤝 or don’t want to learn 🤔. 👉 4️⃣ Role play responses OR (and this one so many little helpers love ) ask your child to *help you* come up with a good response for *you* to use in the future. Try to make these responses about educating people in friendly ways (though again, do what feels right and authentic to your family... and take your child’s lead ). 👉 5️⃣ Empower your child to teach someone close to you. Stage a run in with Aunt Karen—perhaps she can ask your child some of the questions that you’ve already practiced. Give your child the time and space to explain diabetes in their own way (if they’re up for it, of course ). 👉 6️⃣ Finally, validate their feelings. Always, always, always!!! Even with lots of preparation, your child’s feelings may still sometimes get hurt... or they may end up feeling frustrated, embarrassed, upset, confused, ashamed, etc. Let them know that they’re allowed to have and share big feelings. Always, always, always!!

We all need an A C C O U N T A B I L I T Y. I am self-disciplined. I hold myself accountable on the daily for a multitude of things (! ), exercise, nutrition & diabetes management to name a few. However, I feel I need to share how accountability has played a very KEY role in my fitness success. Having someone who motivates me at a higher level and inspires me to push myself harder is KEY...who they themselves walk the walk, they show up everyday and gives their all can provide huge INSPIRATION . This woman, Tracy @train_with_tracy , my pal 😀 has been running incredible #virtualworkouts since March and to say I’m grateful for her would be an understatement. While I have my fitness routines, YouTube vids and home gym to make my workouts dynamic, there’s nothing like doing #liveworkouts and having a #livefitnesstrainer and #fitnesscommunity to cheer me on and hours of the day that work with my schedule. A win win!! How do YOU stay accountable?? Portion sizes are important to think about whether you have Type 1 or Type 2. It makes calculating nutritional facts when you’re carb counting or managing your weight a lot easier. Happy Tuesday FitFriend’s. Today was about recovery and this was a Perfect recovery run, 60-90sec off race pace. Slow, steady and finished feeling strong 💪🏼 . What is a recovery run? . Basically, a recovery run is a short, slow run, completed within 24 hours after a hard session, usually a long run. A recovery run can be of any distance, but as a rule shorter than your base sessions, and performed at a pace 60 to 90 seconds slower than your average run. . . . #recoveryrun #type1warrior #t1dathlete #t1dlookslikeme #t1drunner #diabeticrunner #trainingmotivation #trainhard #recoverywarrior #t1d_fitfriend #gorun #easyrun #selfierunner

If you presented an 8-year-old the option of salmon, clams, or shrimp for dinner, which do you think they would choose 🤔 Would you be surprised to learn that my boy chooses clams every time?!?! This kid of mine has loved seafood almost from day one. Honestly, he comes by it naturally. My husband and I love fish and molluscs of all kinds too. At least twice a week we have them gracing our plates - salmon, halibut, cod, clams, shrimp, and if we’re being ultra decadent, crab and lobster too! As a mom, and an active person, seafood meets so many of my family’s needs. It’s high in protein, omega 3s, and antioxidants. Clams are a fantastic source of iron. Shrimp is a great source of iodine. Salmon is anti-inflammatory. It’s got flavour, texture, colour. It’s fun, and it provides us with variety, beyond chicken, which is huge. But let’s go back to that child of mine and his love of clams. Honestly, I didn’t think he’d like them. But the fact that he loves them is proof that if you let children try new things, they may just surprise you with the foods they gravitate too 😊 • • • • • • • • • #seafood #seafoodlove #seafoodnutrition #letkidseat #lovefood #nutrition #sportnutrition #momnutrition #dietitian #rdt #diabetesdietitian #sportdietitian #clinicaldietitian #type1diabetes #t1d #t1dathlete #t1dlookslikeme #westcoastseafood #nutritionmatters #bcdietitian #vancouverdietitian #fraservalleydietitians #feedingkids #kidnutrition

What is your goal? Drop it in the comments so we can encourage you on your way to achieving it. • Not sure if you have seen Ted Lasso on AppleTV+, but this totally seems like something he might say. • I took this photo a week or so ago when the sky seemed to come ablaze over the schoolyard soccer field. Made me want to go blast some shots. • My biggest fitness goal for 2020 was to keep my runstreak alive and I have succeeded on that. Next biggest goal was to run 2,020 miles in 2020 and I’m a little behind on that one. 583 miles to go in two month and 10 days. Any other type 1 diabetics able to relate? • Situations like these stink! For me, I wanted to run this morning but my bloodsugar kept going low and kept me up a large portion of the night. When my alarm went off my bloodsugar was too low to feel comfortable going for a run so I took the opportunity to catch up on sleep. The good news is, the rain will wash this guy clean, the bird will go away, and tomorrow is a new day. 980miles cycled for September ☑️ . Firstly, a big thank you to @diabetesuk who got hold of me to tell me about their “Coast to Coast” challenge for September 2020 🙏 It has been an absolute honour to be an Ambassador for the event! . Why did I choose the Lands End to John o’Groats Coast to Coast challenge? Well why bloody not? 😂 You have nothing to loose if you don’t stretch yourself that little bit further. . It is important to me to show others who suffer with Type 1 Diabetes (or any other life long condition ) that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!! You heard me...... ANYTHING!!! 🥰 . Those who would love to support @diabetesuk and donate anything towards the challenge I have completed, you can find the link to the page in my bio. . I would be forever thankful 🥰🙏 . Lastly, a big well done to everyone else who took part in this challenge!! You all ROCK!! 🚲💪😄 And also for everyone I instruct / work with at @cycleculturestudio 🥰 you guys encourage me every single day. xx . #teamduk #diabetesuk #diabetes #t1dlookslikeme #t1d #anythingispossible

So real talk- pregnancy, type 1 diabetes, and fitness. When we first found out we were expecting, I scoured the Internet for blogs/articles/info for pregnant CF athletes with T1D. I found a few great blogs from pregnant CF women & their experiences, and I found women on IG who posted about being preggers with type 1, but I didn’t find much about CF specific training with t1d while pregnant. Thankfully I had some great people to give me advice & guide me, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to share some of what I’ve been learning along this journey so far. I am by no means an expert or CDE, but being an athlete with t1d I’ve really been able to dial in what works for my training. T1D fueling/insulin tips: • In the past, I’ve run into issues with post WOD spikes that can be resistant to dropping in that 1-3 hour window after the workout. Obviously not good with pregnancy, amirite? To avoid it, and if I am slightly higher to start, I may take a 1 unit bolus right at the top of the hour, knowing the class is 60 minutes. Knowing that unit will peak about an hour later helps to avoid the rise when I stop being a body in motion. That is for an hour of mostly anaerobic exercise. If there’s a lot of cardio, I will likely do nothing and let the cardio bring it down naturally. With CF we often see a mix of both anaerobic + aerobic in a WOD so I’ll decide on that unit of insulin based on the movements specifically programmed that day. • Carbs with PROTEIN vs carbs with 0g protein. If I need to take in a little carb pre-WOD, I’ll do so about 15 minutes before the class is to begin. I don’t exceed 16g of carb and I find my BGs stay super steady - even with intensive cardio- with 10-12g protein on board. My go-to’s: Fuel for Fire & Kind Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter bars. Both work like a charm. I very rarely experience dips when I have one of these pre-WOD. • I always have 2 mini Gatorades in my bag (22g of fast acting carb ) that I may sip during the strength portion of our class (beginning half ) if I know the WOD has cardio and I need a little more carb on board to keep me level. •Always avoid peaking IOB while in the middle of a workout!
