Struggling to maintain a simple showgirl grip, can't pull up into a straddle or not nailing that press up into a handspring? This shoulder series can be used for all levels of pole dancer & will get you stroooonngg! 💪 Firstly tie up the band to measure roughly the size of your face. 💫 Exercise 1: Break the bar. Place your thumbs in front of the band. Tuck your elbows in & keep the wrists out. Retract/pull your shoulder blades together as you internally rotate the palms at a slow controlled speed. Return palms back to start position. 💫 Exercise 2: Arm lifts. Put the hands inside the band & rotate palms to face inwards. Keeping a slight pressure outwards on the band slowly lifting the arms overhead & lower. 💫 Exercise 3: Tik toks. Starting in the same position as exercise 3, keep your elbows midline as you rotate the arm away (shoulder external rotation ). 💫 Exercise 4: Overhead banded pull a part. Engage the shoulder blades with a squeeze & keep the shoulders away from the ears. Face palms inwards and alternate gentle pulls of the arms away from the midline. The scalene muscles . Do you have a sore neck and tingling in your hand? It is possible that you are tense with scalene ! . Scalenes are 3 muscles located in the neck. Scalene comes from scalenus (Latin ) which means oblique , and actually they are have an oblique direction downwards and outwards. They all attach high on the cervical vertebrae. Below, the anterior and middle scalenes attach to the upper face of the first rib, the posterior scalene attaches to it on the second rib. . What are they used for? If the fixed point is cervical, they will pull the first ribs upwards and thus they help inspiration . Otherwise, they will allow you to tilt and turn your head. Also they are stabilizers of the neck and therefore must be super useful for African women who carry huge loads on their head (cans of water, food, etc. )! . Special features? Between the anterior scalene muscle and the middle scalene muscle pass the brachial plexus (all of the nerves that run through the upper limb, including the shoulder ) and the subclavian artery (which will give all the arterial supply to the upper limb as well ). Suddenly if there is a compression at this level one can have nervous symptoms (pain, loss of sensitivity, numbness, tingling, sensitivity disorder ) and / or vascular. I have seen many people in the clinic who have asked me this question. As an Osteopath, I cannot give you specific recommendations about medication or prescription. But you need to know that pain killers are not a magic pill. They exist to support your rehabilitation program by decreasing your pain. Medication is not ‘bad’ as long as it is for a short time. This allows you to keep moving and improve your recovery time. Many health recommendations suggest that medications should be used only for a short time. For example, there are no benefits past six weeks in the case of lower back pain [1] or 7-14 days for tendon pain [2]. Short-term pain relief can be helpful, but long-term benefits of medications for chronic non-cancer pain are often modest, and risks may outweigh potential benefits. Recent clinical guidelines suggest, if possible, not using them at all for some conditions [2-4]. So, if you feel that you have taken pain killers for a long time and your pain is still here, then you must review your medications with your local doctor or pharmacist. If you think that medications can fix your pain, you will be mistaken because drugs have severe side- effects for the long term [5-7]. The list is long: • Increased pain level, depression and anxiety [5-7] • Increased blood pressure, heartburn and indigestion with other side effects such as stomach bleeding and kidney problems [5-7] It is important to weight the risks vs benefits when taking medications. Nuestra formación en fisiología, neurología y demas ciencias nos permite dar un enfoque global a nuestros pacientes, al menos así debería ser. Trabajo con paciente postquirúrgico de platía de ligamento cruzado anterior. Estamos trabajando en la fase de disponibilidad variable. Antes de este trabajo hicimos pruebas de lateralidad y de ojo dominante. Es un trabajo sensoperceptual basado en los trabajos de Grooms y colaboradores donde se habla sobre los cambios neuroplásticos que se generan en los pacientes con plastía de LCA y en las consecuencias que esto tiene como cambios en las estrategias visuales-motoras. Existe una didáctica para poder implementar ejercicios visuo-motores. La velocidad del procesamiento visual puede ser la diferencia entre tener o no tener una lesión o entre ganar un balón y definir un partido. En este caso estamos realizando un trabajo de objeto y cabeza móvil, se controla visualmente un objeto en movimiento mientras el paciente también se mueve. Adicionalmente al estar en la fase de disponibilidad variable, estamos bloqueando la vista del ojo dominante con unos lentes para favorecer estrategias motoras mas dependientes de los receptores propioceptivos que de la vista. El ejercicio terapéutico debe ser aplicado con razonamiento científico y valoraciones previas del paciente. Mindfulness for runners exists on a spectrum of relevance and applicability. For most recreational runners, the most applicable form of mindfulness in my opinion is spending 5-10min before a run ensuring your understand what your are doing, why you are doing it and how it fits into your long term strategy. This time should seperate your focus from daily stress, family stress or work stress and centre you for the upcoming workout. Unless you are conscientiousness in doing so, it is far more probable you will make training errors, be anxious or stressed, injured or over trained. At the highest level, mindfulness works with a human being capable of Zen like mind-body connection while breaking the marathon world record. When I asked Eliud’s coach why he smiled late in the marathon, he told me that the natural human response to suffering was for the mind to catastrophize and project beyond the present moment to further and greater difficulties. “Eliud smiles”, he said, “when he identifies that tendency in himself and overcomes it by willing himself back to the present moment”. #resilience #mindfulness #running #runner #instarunner #runnersofinstagram #marathon #marathoner #marathoners #runningmotivation #run #runningphysio #sportsphysio
