The KL classification has been commonly used as a research tool in epidemiological studies of OA, including landmark articles by Felson et al. in the Framingham Osteoarthritis Study, and Bagge et al. assessing osteoarthritis in European populations. . The KL classification was also used in the development of atlases of radiographic features of OA, including the work done by Scott et al. . The Kellgren and Lawrence classification may also assist healthcare providers with a treatment algorithm to guide clinical decision-making, specifically defining which patients may benefit most from surgical management. . Overhead Shoulder Stability⁠ ⁠ ⁠Overhead shoulder stability is very important for an overhead athlete. Not being able to get into certain positions and produce force effectively and athletically can affect athletic performance.⁠ ⁠ The Yoga Push-Up with Hand Taps is a progression from the Yoga Push-Up as the athlete's arm is off the ground increasing the demands to stabilize on the arm affixed to the ground.⁠ ⁠ When performing, assume the end position of the Yoga Push-Up and maintain pressing the ground away. While maintaining this position, remove one hand from the ground and tap the opposite hand. Don't allow for the hips to rock side to side. If so, widen the foot position to minimize this or instruct the athlete to hold their pelvis stable.⁠ ⁠ If an athlete lacks hamstring flexibility, a slight knee bend can be utilized to decrease this. We also want to make sure the athlete doesn't allow their head to jut forward while being overhead.⁠ ⁠ Perform for 5 reps alternating per side x 2-4 sets. #shoulder #shoulders #shoulderpain

Performing the perfect squat requires a lot of observation & understanding of the body mechanics. A squat, if performed with poor posture & poor control can have detrimental effects on the joints, especially the knees & spine. . There is tons of research on the perfect form of a squat. This post is purely based on those. I would be happy to share those papers with those who are interested. You can drop me a dm. . Having said that, it is important to keep in mind that every body is different, structurally as well as functionally. So no two people can have an identical squat form. Every individual must perform the form suitable for his/her body type. Both the squat stances mentioned in the post have their own pros & cons. However, I would personally recommend a novice squatter to keep a wider base to begin with as a narrow base requires more control. . It is good to keep in mind these few points when performing a squat- . 1. The trunk leans forward to maintain the center of gravity, thus maintaining balance. 2. The pelvis tilts depending on the flexibility of the muscles as also the depth of the squat. 3. The curve of the lower spine will depend on the lean of the trunk & the pelvic tilt. 4. Approximately 200 muscles work while doing a squat & all are interdependent on each other. 5. The depth of the squat is governed by the anatomy of the body, mainly the hip, & also the flexibility of the ankle joint. 6. Stability of the knee joint is important & requires control. At no point should the knees drop inwards towards each other while in a squat. 7. Few researchers advise not to let the knees go over the ankles. However, there is no direct correlation between this & the occurrence of injuries. 8. 💪 Consistency Vs Variety - Injury Risk and Performance 🤕 Reducing injury risk in any meaningful way means being physically prepared, conditioned for the physical demands of your life. That involves exercise, training. Like many things you have two extreme exercise camps. On one hand you have the Rippetoe, stronglifts, powerlifting types who advocate picking the 5 or 6 biggest 'bang per buck' exercises and getting good at them. Runners, cyclists and other single activity specialists fall into this camp too. Then you have conjugate programne and CrossFit guys who might do a wildly different session every time they train, constant variety. As ever, those on the extremes of these approaches are both equally right and equally wrong. The answer is in the middle. If you specialise you increase injury risk outside of a very narrow scope of movement because you don't condition anything else, and worse you give yourself the capacity to dramatically overload the deconditioned systems. If you generalise too much and have too little structure you never get any meaningful progression in any area and everything you do you are deconditioned to and is a risk in itself. This is why so many novice crossfitters get hurt. Here's where the magic is in programming: 👊 Identify your priorities 👊 Test a variety of movements and energy systems 👊 Identify deficits 👊 Programme consistency on your priorities to MAKE PROGRESS 👊 Programme variety in your assistance training, based on the test and retest results That combination maximises performance and minimises injury risk. 💥Footwork💥 - ❤️ TAG or SHARE this post with someone who could benefit from these drills💪🏼 - 🙌🏼 Today I'm collaborating with @smithforgedsc to show some example drills one might incorporate using an agility ladder to improve footwork, coordination, and plyometric loading - 🎯 In addition to traditional resistance training, the agility ladder provides a nice option to be able to promote ballistic strength of the gastroc/soleus complex (calves ) as well as build resilience in the Achilles tendon - 💪🏼 In regards to performance, the agility ladder provides creative ways to work on various footwork drills that may improve movement variability, which may be helpful in sports requiring quick, coordinated changes in footwork - ✅ The drills you choose can be simple or as creative as you wish, as long as they are movements that are both practical and meaningful to you. This post shows only a few examples for reference - 💯 Important to note: a recent study demonstrated that there is a far higher requirement of the calf muscles during running than we initially thought - 🍑 So the previous emphasis on training the glutes, while still important, may not be as important as building calf muscle strength and resilience, at least for runners - ⁉️ Questions?
