This was a question on a facebook knee pain forum.💊💉🧪 The Question was what supplements can i ake for knee pain. Well yes you CAN take natural supplements like fishoils and tumeric HOWEVER... this is a 1% fix This is NOT 99% of the problem. . 🧐: 99% of the problem with knee pain like osteoarthritis, runners knee, meniscus pain, tendon pain. Comes down to: 1️⃣. Improving knee strength/whole leg. Will improve your capacity to tolerate exercise like walking. 2️⃣. Healthy diet and by extension a healthy body weight. Less weight = less forces through the knee joint. 3️⃣. Monitoring your Amount of exercise. TOO MUCH relative to your knees ability often leads to pain. 4️⃣. What social situations put you in a position that makes your knee sore. Can these be modified whilst you improve your strength.

Does it hurt when you ‘Bend the Knee?’ ⁣ .⁣ Many factors come into play, but let’s talk Patella ela ela eh eh eh. (Shout out to Ri Ri )⁣ .⁣ If you suffer from Patellar Maltracking, you’ll probably feel pain when you bend the knee. When your patella is very stiff and rigid, or not sitting in its proper groove, it’ll cause pressure and shearing in the patella femoral joint. This can lead to pain and swelling.⁣ .⁣ 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 ‘🐉’ 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤!⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #physicaltherapy #physiotherapy #anatomy #manualtherapy #rehab #prehab #movement #mobility #massage #fitness #wellness #sportsinjury #health #parc #therapy #recovery #coralgables #coconutgrove #miami #lifestyle #mobilitytraining #healthy #pt #stability #flexibility #getpt1st #choosept #patellapain #patella #knee

Hey Clients! 👋 Do you have knee pain? Are you a runner who has struggled with ‘runner’s knee’? 🏃🏃‍♀️ I have three tips that may help your knee ‘tracking’ issues. . Stretching is always important in an active lifestyle AS WELL as a sedentary lifestyle. Did you know that the upper leg muscles (quads ) are commonly imbalanced? The outer quad and IT band (side portion of upper leg ) get tight really easily because they are commonly used with walking and running. This area needs to be stretched and rolled out (as shown in videos 1 & 2 ). Don’t forget to roll out the top part of the IT band as well where it connects to the muscle TFL (side butt muscle )! . In the 3rd video I show an exercise that strengthens the inner quad muscle. This is your jumping muscle, meaning, it only activates in the last 15 degrees of extension of the knee. Doing plies (mini squats with your toes pointed outwards ) helps to strengthen this muscle and balance your knee so that it tracks properly again and reduces your knee pain! . . #runnersknee #runnerskneerecovery #patellafemoralsyndrome #patellapain #kneepain #kneepainrelief #kneepainreliefexercise #exercises #selfcare #homecare #homecareexercises #selfcareexercise #kneerehab #remedialexercise #massagetherapist #rmt #rmtlife #fitmassagetherapist #healthcaretips #stretch #foamrolling #foamrollingbenefits #strengthening #itbandsyndrome #quads

Do you have pain on the inside of your knee? This is referred to as medial knee pain. Medial knee pain can be caused by a vast array of structures. It is important to have it tested by a therapist. It is not always going to be a meniscal tear or a medial collateral ligament tear. It may be that the patella is not moving the way it should. #brisbanehealth #brisbane #jamesst #fortitudevalley #healthplace #remedialmassage #myotherapy #sportsmassagetherapist #sportsmassage #brisbanebusiness #painfreemovement #brisbanesmallbusiness #kneepain #patellapain #medialkneepain #runnersknee #patellafemoralpain

Knees... ...rely on the foot below and the hip above. But if they rely on the hips they rely on the ribcage (will cover why in one of the following videos🤓 ). Why is it being overloaded, what does your body not want to (or is unable to? ) access that would take stress away from the knee? Because work is shared. Question to ask yourself: Where is the pressure in your feet? How does that relate to what I feel in my knee (regardless of pain or not ) NOTE: I want to keep these videos as accessible and digestible as possible. This means that there are of course simplifications and I cannot get into every possible scenario. But since no one has got 2 hours to listen to me that’s fine I think 😊 Use them for ideas, inspiration and new thinking. Next up: Hips!🍑

🚨KNEE CAP PAIN SERIES: PART 2🚨 . 💥We discussed in the previous post the importance of strengthening to aid in kaee cap pain. . 💥Why might it be important to consider the above as well? . 1️⃣During the loading phase of running 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ we're in a single leg stance position therefore stability becomes important. Additionally the surfaces we run aren't always perfect whether it's our roads, or trail running. . 2️⃣Performing some jump/land exercises will help drive the neuromuscular patterning for the dynamic stabilizers of the knee joint (the surrounding muscles ). . . #physiotherapist #physicaltherapist #physio #rehab #sportsrehab #sportsmedicine #sportsphysio #jumpersknee #runnersknee #patellapain #patellofemoralpain #ptjp #ptfps #running #run #marathontraining #marathon #trailrunning #outdoors #soccer #football #basketball #fieldhockey #volleyball #surrey #southsurrey #LANGLEY #CLOVERDALE #britishcolumbia

🤔 HOW TO FIX KNEE PAIN WITH "VOODOO FLOSS"? 🔒 The SUPRA-PATELLAR tissue (above the knee ) should be moving well, and if it isn't then your knees may be painful. 🔑 1 KEY to unlocking this is "voodoo flossing"! Simply wrap the band above your knee with 50% tension and 50% overlap of the band. Then move your knee through flexion and extension manually, or with squatting movements. This will create a "shearing force" on the tissue that are stuck and contributing to knee pain. ❤️ Know someone with knee pain? Day 31 post op [ little less than 5 weeks!] I progressed to straight leg raises today!! I have to do these multiple times a day while the e-stim is on. When I tried to do a leg raises today at PT I couldn't even lift my leg. After some deep breathes and the e-stim, I did 5! And now I can do a set of 10 about 3x a day. Goal for this week again is 100 degrees but thank God my quad works! Anterior knee pain—patellofemoral pain Patellofemoral pain is located on the front part of the knee around and behind the kneecap (patella ). Activities that stress the knee joint aggravate symptoms. For example, symptoms worsen with stairs, squats or running. Prolonged sitting can also be irritating. The kneecap helps the thigh muscles (quadriceps ) extend the leg. Poor alignment of the knee cap with the thigh bone(femur ), overtraining, and poor foot/ankle alignment may contribute to its development. Treatment includes: 1. activity modification (reduce training volume and aggravating activities ) 2. exercise therapy (especially hip and quadriceps muscle strengthening ) 3. optimize biomechanics (proper arch support for foot/ankle alignment ) #clinicalpearls #patellapain

This is going to be a really REAL post. Real talk, I bought my @onepeloton last January after a year of talking about it. I was sooo excited and committed to ride! Mentally I was there. Physically, I wasn’t. 365 days in a year and I only got to ride 8 due to my severe knee pain. There was a point in the year where I could not even walk a flight of stairs. Riding the bike that sat next to my bed everyday was a pipe dream. Seeing it everyday was a reminder of what I could NOT do. This is the real behind the scenes - what living with chronic pain is like. I couldn’t ride, period. I’ve felt ashamed about it, haven’t been accepting followers because how do I OWN a bike and ride it so little? Pain. That’s how. This bike will be part of my recovery in some ways. I’d feel grateful to be able to ride more than 2 days in a row. That’s my goal. So my dear Peloton, I look forward to many rides in 2020 but MANY more in 2021 when I’m “fixed”. . . #knee #kneeproblems #kneepain #chronicpain #chronicpainawareness #kneephysio #kneephysicaltherapy #patellafemoralsyndrome #patella #patellapain #physicaltherapy #rehab #rehabilitation #arthoscopysurgery #arthoscopicsurgery #kneesurgery #kneesurgeryrecovery #peloton #onepeloton #keeppushing #hospitalspecialsurgery

RUNNERS KNEE aka PATELLOFEMORAL PAIN One of the most common knee injuries from running that I see in the clinic is PFPS. PFPS is an umbrella term used to describe pain that arises from the joint between the knee cap ( patella ) and the adjacent tissues. Most often, this happens in running due to the repetitive single leg jumping and landing that is required ( 5km can be over 6000 hops! ). Because the patella is a floating bone, it is able to move or track in different directions depending on the ability of the surrounding structures to STABILIZE! Our Quads Tendon and Patellar Tendon anchor above and below, and the contraction of our quads will cause the patella to move with varying degrees of knee flexion/extension. PFPS PRESENTATION: ❗️achey feeling around or under the knee cap ❗️pain with going down stairs ❗️pain with sitting for long periods of time ( and also when changing positions from sitting ) ❗️pain worsens with activity (running, walking, jumping ) and may linger even once activity is over Getting back to running is all about stabilizing that patella through strengthening, correcting muscles imbalances, and load management!

⚡️kneecap pain⚡️ Great explanation, and the best exercises for kneecap pain by @rehabscience ・・・ ---------- Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS ) is a multi-faceted pain condition, like many pain problems, and can vary from person to person. In general though, PFPS presents as pain at the front of the knee that is aggravated with activities that compress the patellofemoral joint (joint between patella and femur ) such as squatting, climbing stairs, running, kneeling, prolonged sitting and so on. . Now, contrary to what many providers will tell you, pain in this region does not necessarily mean something is wrong with the cartilage of your knee (termed chondromalacia ) or any other tissue. In many cases, the pain is really just thought to be a result of the nervous system being overly protective. Additionally, even if you do have signs of degeneration to structures of the patellofemoral joint, this does not mean you will for sure have pain. Large percentages of painless individuals show signs of degeneration, so let's not stress too much about what an imaging study might show us. Remember, YOU ARE NOT YOUR MRI. Imaging tools are useful, but they only tell part of the story. . So, what do you do for PFPS? Well, this obviously varies person to person, but there are a few general interventions that work for many people. These usually revolve around modifying stress on the joint, learning to move the leg differently with certain activities and strengthening the muscles (mainly glutes ) that control alignment of the lower extremity. . Presented here are several hip biased exercises that use a mini-band ( @perform_better ), which creates tension and acts to pull the hip into adduction and/or internal rotation. During the exercises, the individual must then recruit their hip abductors and external rotators (gluteus medius, maximus and others ) to resist the band's tension. The hip abductors and external rotators are also the muscles that help us prevent medial or valgus collapse of the knee, which is often associated with PFPS. •••••• Powers CM.
