You might reach for a pint of ice cream when you’re feeling down, order a pizza if you’re bored or lonely, or swing by the drive-through after a stressful day at work. Emotional eating is using food to make yourself feel better—to fill emotional needs, rather than your stomach. Unfortunately, emotional eating doesn’t fix emotional problems. In fact, it usually makes you feel worse. Afterward, not only does the original emotional issue remain, but you also feel guilty for overeating. Emotional hunger can’t be filled with food. Eating may feel good in the moment, but the feelings that triggered the eating are still there. And you often feel worse than you did before because of the unnecessary calories you’ve just consumed. You beat yourself for messing up and not having more willpower. Compounding the problem, you stop learning healthier ways to deal with your emotions, you have a harder and harder time controlling your weight, and you feel increasingly powerless over both food and your feelings. But no matter how powerless you feel over food and your feelings, it is possible to make a positive change. Magistrirala sem! Včasih bi pred klicajem dodala še 100 opravičil, ampak s tem bi samo dala v nič vse kar se je zgodilo v času med koncem študija in danes.. Ja, trajalo je dolgo, ampak če pogledam nazaj je bilo v tem času toliko življenja.. Od vzponov in padcev, od izgubljanja sebe do tega da sem se spet našla, od službe do brezposelnosti do zavrnitev služb, ki so mi bile sanjske.. Ja, bilo je stresno, včasih nevdržno, ampak s pravimi ljudmi okrog sebe in veliko dela na sebi je vse postalo vzdržno, pa ne samo to.. Dobilo je smisel 💛 Hvaležna sem za vsako oviro, za vsak ovinek in vsako solzo obupa ter jeze. Danes sem pred zagovorom jokala od sreče. Čeprav sem vedno vedela, da bom prišla do tega trenutka, se je včasih to zdelo misija nemogoče. Da sem imela namen enkrat magistrirat pove že to, da sem obleko za zagovor kupila že dve leti nazaj in čevlje lani 🙈 Ampak uspelo je! In sedaj imam občutek, da zapiram še zadnje poglavje, ki me je vedno vleklo nazaj in zaradi česar nisem našla poti naprej. This past week was full of celebrations (first wedding anniversary and mine and my husband’s birthday ). Naturally we celebrated with lots of delicious food and adult beverages. Went to an amazing restaurant and did a tasting menu, pizza, wedding cake, birthday cake, champagne, cookies, lots and lots of wine. . I have a history of yo-yo dieting. I’ve had both that fuck-it mentality (like I’ve already fallen off the wagon, I may as well finish the day with garbage food because I already ate junk food today ) OR I had it in my head I would need to obsessively work to get back on track by over-exercising and under-eating. . I know from experience that neither of these options are healthy or productive. I definitely feel the aftermath of a week of overindulging - my sleep quality suffered, I was bloated, I had terrible heartburn, and my anxiety worsened. So instead of rushing into a detox or finishing the leftover birthday cake, I’m going to get a good nights sleep, hydrate and eat and move in a way that serves me. . What i am not going to do: ❌Weigh myself ❌Punish myself with workouts ❌Under-eat or only eat grilled chicken and steamed broccoli ❌Stress! Hot flushes in COVID times . Have you struggled with hot flushes? . I have to admit that up until this weekend I had not! I’ve had heart palpitations, anxiety, mood swings and night sweats but not hot flushes. I first experienced peri-menopause symptoms about 4-5 years ago. I struggled for a while before I realised that it was peri-menopause - and then took steps to address my symptoms. Working across nutrition, lifestyle and some supplements I was able to completely eliminate all my symptoms.. and in fact felt happier than I had for years. . That was until this weekend when I had my first hot flush. (I’m still perimenopausal so I was anticipating some more symptoms! ) . If you’ve never had one it’s a little worrying in these COVID times as at first you wonder if you’ve a fever - and start to panic about all that that implies - but as it dissipates you realise that no it’s not coronavirus - it's a hot flush. . Happily I know that I can take action to manage my symptoms - and have started using some supplements, as well as stress relieving techniques (stress levels have been rising recently ), and continuing with my nutrition practices - as well as looking to see where I can make changes / improvements. .
