We know that there are even bigger things going on than those in self isolation. This virus is taking lives and the economy is really suffering and this is a huge deal. But for the everyday person secluding themselves at home — we’ve been hearing a lot of people saying “just use this time to catch up on TV, take long baths and relax”. But many people’s self isolation does not look like that. There are a lot of people having a really hard time. Whether it’s being exhausted by wrangling kids all day AND also trying to work. Having mental health issues heightened because of the seclusion. Issues in the home with domestic abuse etc. Being on the frontlines and your family is isolating without you. Having lost your job and worrying about supporting yourself. There are major things going on but I know sometimes you may feel so unseen when people are talking about relaxing and watching lots of TV and thinking that is definitely not my experience! (We’re feeling this too ). If food is an issue for you at this time, we have a quarantine quiz you can take and receive a personalized UnDiet Strategy to at least make food easier! I'm starting to be able to eat some previously binge foods in small amounts. My mom made some pizza... I'm still scared of overeating so I can't just eat them normally. I had one slice in front of her because I didn't want to upset her... here's to small recovery victories😊🍕 one piece at a time.
Write it down on a notepad or a sticky note with BIG letters and put it on your fridge, headboard of your bed or bathroom mirror haha! ‘Cause we just need this important reminder!! 😉 Jokes aside, but I can’t emphasize enough how harmful it is to label foods as “good” or “bad”, “healthy” or not “healthy”. And I want you to remember that... ALWAYS. Food is just food and what really matters is our overall eating pattern as well as your hydration, lifestyle, stress management, sleep, social wellness, and emotional health, to name a few. Fight this diet culture with all your strength 💪 and honor your health with gentle nutrition - in other words, by choosing foods that honor your health and taste buds while making you feel well. Period. #intuitiveeating #mindfuleating #nondiet #nondietapproach #nondietdietitian #allfoodsfit #dietculture #HAES #healthateverysize #foodfreedom #weight #weightloss . . 🇧🇷 Post: “A moralização da comida é prejudicial. Ponto.” Ponto. #comerintuitivo #restricaoalimentar #dieta #peso #emagrecer #comportamentoalimentar #nutricaocomportamental #nutricaosemdieta #alimentacaosaudavel #comercomprazer

Why are the fake nutrition "professionals" and "influencers" so much louder on social media than qualified nutrition professionals? . Because most dietitians are working their butts off in hospitals with sick people who require specialist nutrition support to survive 😵 . Dietitians are on the frontline helping COVID +ve and other patients get nutrition whichever way is best for them, often via a feeding tube for those unable to eat and drink. And that never involves celery juice or "superfoods" as they are just not required by your immune system. . We simply don't have time to make stylised videos and source expensive ingredients claiming to heal your immune system. . Also, ethically we just wouldn't do this because its false and causes harm 😡 . 💕Please think critically about the nutrition info you see 💕 . Do you feel like you’re always going to fight your weight? 9 years ago, I was 3 pants sizes smaller, but I was also much less content, happy, free. Gaining weight and letting my body find its set point was the best thing I ever did. Gone were the days of forcing my body to look a certain way, always being hungry, never being happy with my “goal” and always wanting more. It was exhausting. Not only that but my hormones were out of whack and my metabolism had slowed. I felt like I was always at war with my body and fighting against it. Letting go of that control allowed me to work with my body, be at peace with it, and start to enjoy my life, while maintaining my weight without even trying. I just listen to my body. We all have a weight set point range that fluctuates depending on what we have going on in life. Our bodies are not static. They shift and change as we need them to. Think puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, etc... these changes are normal and supposed to happen! When you keep fighting against your body’s set point, it will always fight back. Ever been on a diet and stopped losing weight, no matter how much you restrict? Maybe you even gained some. Stopped cutting out those food groups and noticed and increase in weight when you added them back in? The point is, dieting is NOT sustainable and your body will fight to keep what is natural, healthy, and happy for it. Intuitive eating allows for this freedom of listening to your body’s cues, giving it what it needs and when to work with it to maintain this set point range. Not obsessing over food, counting calories or going on crazy diets. Free, healthy, and happy. AND that looks different on everyone. 💛 Want more? •Link in bio for free workbooks, support group •Counseling: link in bio to apply to work with me

This is a trying time all on its own and the last thing you need to add to your plate is to be worrying about gaining weight right now because let me be honest - if the WORST thing that happens to you through this pandemic is that you gain a bit of weight well then you are very lucky!!! . So I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - you do whatever you need in this moment to get through this!! Whether that is a workout or a donut... one is not better than the other!! . What makes me very sad is to see all the people struggling with disordered eating right now, because they eat more than usual and then beat themselves up over it which then leads to eating even more again and it’s just a never ending cycle! . Please give yourself some grace here, and please stop talking about and joking about gaining weight through all of this!! . If you are still struggling to ditch the diet mentality make sure to check out my free ebook where I lay out my 5 steps to end dieting for good (link in my bio )!❤️ . . . . #loveyourselfenoughtonotdiet #intuitiveeating #healthateverysize #haes #quarantine15 #weightlossjourney #selflove #antidiet #nondietapproach #nondiet #bopo #bodypositivity
Food is so much more than just nourishment for our physical body. It can also feed our emotional health by bringing us joy and satisfaction. It brings us together, and that’s why it’s such a central part of our celebrations!🎉 It can also bring us comfort when we’re stressed, which is why many people turn to food in stressful situations.😳 We all react to stress differently. So, if you find yourself eating more (or less ) than usual, especially at a time like this, PLEASE don’t judge yourself for it.🙅🏾♀️ Try to ignore all the memes about gaining the “covid 19” (a reference to gaining 19lbs in quarantine ) and unfollow influencers that make you feel like a failure for not having a perfect diet during such a crazy time! It’s not a moral obligation.🤷🏾♀️ The LAST thing you need to do right now (or ever ) is restrict your food intake and judge yourself. Restriction will always backfire on you, similarly to the binging and dieting cycle. Eating restricted foods will make you feel more stress, anxiety, and guilt; and as a result, these negative feelings make you eat even MORE in an effort to feel better. This makes you feel EVEN WORSE and the cycle repeats itself, over and over again. 🤦🏾♀️ It’s not worth all the extra stress and you’re only human at the end of the day. Just know that you’re not alone and we’ll eventually get back to our regular lives and eating habits. Until then, eat your snacks sis!! I’ll be the first to say that chocolate has been looking EXTRA delicious these days, and that’s okay! Don’t beat yourself up for enjoying food.💕 #emotionaleating #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #intuitiveeating #selflove #mindfulness #quarantinelife #bingeeatingrecovery #bingeeating #healthyeating #overeating #stresseating #quarantine #weightlossmotivation #nutrition #bingeeatingdisorder #antidiet #nondiet #nondietapproach #thethicknutritionist #balance #mindfuleating #foodblogger #foodfreedom #eatingdisorderrecovery #selfcare #nutritionist
My Mom sent me this quote from Naomi Wolf with this note attached to it: . “If only I had someone like you in my life when you were growing up to show me self-acceptance & self-love. Keep doing what you’re doing. I applaud you & your passion to help others learn to love their bodies. Can you imagine growing up and having that self-confidence every day?” 💜😭 ✨ THE TRUTH? I FELT LIKE A FRAUD EVEN POSTING THIS. ✨ I’ve been having mental breakdowns as a Mom, as the wife of a “non-essential” business owner and as a human being during this world pandemic. ✨ My breakdowns in front of my kids & on the rug in my office alone have been frequent, intense and forceful. ✨ I felt like a failure because how could my kids see me like this when I’m supposed to be this strong, confident, brave Mother, Wife and Business owner? ✨ Well... you can thank my Mom and my Food Freedom journey because I’ve learned that your demons will never go away, but you can learn how to tame them. Because now when those demons come up: . 🌈I’m actually listening to what they’re trying to say instead of trying to morph them into the perfect body 🌈I’m learning how to pivot better than Ross and Rachel and becoming more creative in the process than I ever dreamed 🌈I’m walking through my biggest fears of rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness instead of becoming them 🌈I’m teaching my boys that it’s ok to get knocked down as long as you have the courage to try again, knowing you’ll probably fail again 🌈I’m accepting where I’m at in this season of life but not accepting my limitations or the limitations others put on me 🌈I’m allowing myself to feel angry, sad, confused & hurt but not allowing it to change my morals, values, or who I am . It’s not always strength, perseverance & bravery that our kids need to see. They need to see our hurt, failures & pains too. ✨ Could you imagine your kids growing up with a Mom who loved herself? Oh how different the world would be 🙌🏻 ✨ The Collective closes in less than 24 hours. Your new tribe is waiting for you! This Collective only opens up twice a year & now is one of them! Don’t miss your last chance to become the Mother who RADIATES ☀️
I have heard/read all sorts of comments about body changes due to our current situation. People are afraid to spend more time at home and therefore more time near their kitchen. People fear weight gain. People joke about weight gain. People fear they might lose their “gains” without access to the gym. This. Is. Diet. Culture. And. Fatphobia.👏🏼 Our current situation is scary. There are a lot of things that could happen. We could get sick. We could lose loved ones. Having our bodies change due to all of the adjustments in our lives shouldn’t even touch this list. If you’ve made these jokes/comments or are scared of your body changing don’t feel guilty. This is just a good wake up call and opportunity to reflect. We are living in a global pandemic. Diet culture and fatphobia have no place here. If body changes are at the top of your worry list maybe this is your chance to reflect on the role diet culture plays in your life and what weight biases you’re holding onto. ❤️
You’ve heard of bootylicious, but have you heard of JIGGLE-LICIOUS?! Your body is SUPPOSED to jiggle, I promise. In fact, even bikini models with some of the lowest body fat % still have to learn how to walk and move to make their bodies NOT jiggle. So why are we spending so much time stressing about it? . I’ve learned to love my jiggle. Belly fat helps women balance hormones and keeps organs that could someday hold a baby safe and healthy. . Celebrate your jiggle. It’s a sign that you’re alive 💓 if you get brave today and decide to share your jiggle, tag me so I can celebrate with you! #jigglelicious
Recently there have been tons of social media posts encouraging healthy diets, and using this extra time at home to get “fit and healthy”. For some people, this may feel inspiring and help create a sense of routine. But for others, it creates feelings of guilt and anxiety over their eating habits. I want to remind anyone who is having trouble sticking to a diet full of superfoods and vegetables, that it is okay to listen to what your body. We are in a very uncertain time, and adding stress over how you eat or what you should be doing only makes life more difficult. This is an ideal time to practice intuitive eating: the idea that you are the expert of your own body, and your body knows exactly what it needs! Intuitive eating involves taking time to understand what your body is feeling, and then non-judgmentally allowing yourself to eat or do whatever feels good to you in that moment. You may find that as you become more mindful of your needs, what you thought was hunger is actually boredom, or simply needing a break from work. You may also find that no matter how many healthy alternatives you try, allowing yourself to eat chips or cookies is the only way to fix your craving and feel satisfied. And that’s okay! Some tips to get started with incorporating intuitive eating into your life: *Learn to tell the difference between physical hunger and “emotional hunger”. Emotional hunger can be caused by strong emotions, like stress or boredom. *Try to remove distractions from the room when you eat. That includes watching TV or going on your phone - it may feel weird at first, but try to stick with it. *Be mindful of the food you eat: chew slowly and focus on each bite’s flavour and texture. Notice how your body feels as you eat. You may find that you are full sooner than you thought. *Trust your body: it may feel strange to let yourself give into cravings, but it is all part of the process of building a strong body-mind connection. *Enjoy your food! Whether you enjoy a plate full of vegetables or a simple PB&J-choose foods that make you happy and satisfied. If you have struggled with being an intuitive eater, I am here to help. 💕
easy peasy eggy bready brunch 🍞 . In all honesty, I woke up and spent the entire morning just laying in bed trying to find some inspiration to get up, get through my to-do list and make myself a good brunch. 🌸Now that there is no Park Run or weekend coffee/brunch dates, making myself a good brunch & coffee and enjoying it in the sunny conservatory on a Saturday is my new fave way to start the weekend. 🕺🏼👯♀️Oh and a little dance party in the kitchen with my brother of course! . I have started working full time at the hospital this week, so I’m slowly getting my body back to being used to shift work - basically I am running on copious amounts of tea and snacks☕️ So I am making the most of having a free weekend, and trying to get out of the house as much as possible to escape my Dad & brother who are going stir crazy from living and working together and having no other human contact! . Hope your spirits are still high and you have managed to not kill any of your household members yet! 🌞 . PESTO & TOMATO TOPPED EGGY BREAD: . INGREDIENTS FOR ONE: * 1 egg * Mixed herbs, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper * Large slice of bread * 1 fresh tomato * Fresh oregano * 2 tbsp pesto . METHOD: 1. Chop up the tomato and add it into a pan with fresh oregano, olive oil, salt and pepper. Leave to stew on a low heat. 2. In a dish, mix up the seasoning and egg 3. Cover the bread in the eggy mix 4. Cook in a preheated frying pan for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy 5. Top the eggy bread with pesto, the stewed tomatoes, more oregano and anything else you find in your fridge (halloumi would be a winning addition! )
THE QUESTION IS NOT... How do I lose weight? OR How do I stop my food cravings and hunger? This issue goes deeper... The better question would be ... How can I become healthier, happier and in harmony with my body & mind? How can I tune back into my body and allow myself to heal? --> coming back to harmony with your mind, body and spirit, as that is the only way forward to alignment. Does this resonate with you? Would you like to know more about this? Let me know below or shoot me a message and let's have a chat about your current situation and how you can get into harmony with your body & mind. Much love, Stepanka
It was only recently I realized this vest of mine is getting a little bit worn. And when I thought about it, I realized it's one of my oldest pieces of clothing- I got it my freshman year of college, even before I met my husband (we've been together for 12 years ). That's THIRTEEN years with this vest and it wasn't until I was aware of how long I'd been holding onto it that I realized how worn it had become.⠀ ⠀ And it got me to thinking about the OTHER things I held onto for years without considering whether (or not ) they were still serving me.⠀ ⠀ Things like food rules.⠀ ⠀ I held onto the notion that fat was bad well into my early twenties to the point that my hands cracked and bled all winter long.⠀ ⠀ I held onto the idea that carbs were bad until I started burning out in exhaustion after every run.⠀ ⠀ I held onto the rule that I had to portion all my food to manage my calories and beat myself up when I'd overeat later on.⠀ ⠀ I kept the rule of only eating clean during the week to allow myself a 'cheat' on the weekend which only led to more and more cheats and I'd convince myself I'd start over on Monday, and the cycle repeated.⠀ ⠀ Until I became aware of it- and as soon as I was aware of them, I was able to begin to let them go- and let in the thing that I had always been striving for and never known how to reach: balance.⠀ ⠀ Does trying to find that elusive balance for yourself seem confusing, or at worst- impossible? I was with you, friend. But you don't have to do it alone. I created my course, Uncomplicated Eating™ to take the confusion and complication out of living your most beautiful, balanced life.⠀ ⠀ Take advantage of the flexible payment plan and join for only $49 through Monday. Good morning! 🌞 I've been baking a lot more recently. I've never really been much of a baker (possibly because I've been intimidated by it ). But it has been really fun! These are corn muffins from the cookbook "Great Natural Breads Made Easy" by Bernice Hunt. I'm going to try making rolls today. 🤞 What are you favorite things to bake?? . . . . . #baking , #muffins , #foodphotography , #dietculturedropout , #lovetoeat , #Whatsonmyplate , #heresmyfood , #todayfood #happyfood , #nodiet , #enjoyfood , #nourishyourbody , #nourishingfoods , #allfoodsfit , #intuitiveeating , #nondiet , #rd2be , #foodideas , #foodspiration , #simplefood , #simplerecipes , #thenewhealthy , #foodphotos , #inthekitchen , #platedpics , #RDtobe , #cookingathome , #easyrecipe ,

Just because everyone else around you is dieting doesn't mean you have to.⠀ ⠀ Just because everyone around you is working out right now, doesn't mean you have to.⠀ ⠀ Just because everyone around you is training for a race, doesn't mean you have to.⠀ ⠀ Just because everyone around you is cutting carbs or skipping breakfast doesn't mean you have to.⠀ ⠀ Just because nobody else is eating doesn't mean you can't.⠀ ⠀ Just because nobody else is resting doesn't mean you can't.⠀ ⠀ Just because others don't share your same values of self-care, doesn't mean you can't make the choice to care for your body and treat yourself with respect, even if nobody else around you is doing it.⠀ ⠀

HEY YOU… I see a lot of people being hard on themselves about feeling bad. Perhaps you’re minimizing your feelings because you feel like there are much worse things happening. Or perhaps you’re beating yourself up for feeling bad about your body when life could be so much worse. STOP. Beating yourself up for beating yourself up is like throwing gasoline on the fire. Would you tell a kid to shut up if they were hurting and asking for help? I'm guessing that's a no. We don’t shut down judgments about ourselves by being critical of them. Try responding to them with curiosity, compassion and by giving yourself grace. I’m going to be talking about this and so much more at my upcoming FREE Body Acceptance Masterclass next week. A couple of nights ago someone told me that they were unfollowing me because my content makes them feel guilty, ashamed & attacked. I‘m in total support of this choice. I‘ve said it many times. If it doesn’t make you feel good you owe it to yourself to take action. You are responsible for it. - But, it got me thinking. I consciously make an effort to avoid making people feel guilty. I very rarely post about workouts or food (whether I’m eating a nutritious textbook meal or ‘look at me eating all this chocolate & cheese’ ) to avoid the comparison trap. - I don’t justify rest days, going for a run on Christmas Day, working out over Easter, what I’m doing during this current pandemic, because I don’t want to plant a seed in anyone’s head or make them doubt their own choices. - I’ve even considered the amount of bikini photos on my profile. Is this too many photos of my half naked body? Maybe this one is too much? Does this deter from my message? Can I preach “you’re more than your body” “it’s about how your body feels!!” but also, here are my boobs, my ass, & my legs. Internalised misogyny much? - I’ve hopefully made it clear that “feminism” is about choice. You choose whether to shave, to fake tan, to be looked after by a man. If you really want to lose weight? Fine. Body autonomy. You decide. - When I say “men are 🗑” you don’t need to be upset. I’m not talking about you. I’m not talking about your husband. Your boyfriend. Your dad. For all you know I could be sitting on top of a guy giving him neck massage, stroking his hair, feeding him freshly baked cookies whilst simultaneously tweeting about how sh*t men are. Honestly, you don’t know. - And yet, despite this, despite trying to actively promote a “zero guilt” “zero f*cks” “zero shame” lifestyle, there will still be people out there, who aren’t comfortable with my message. And I’m happy about the feedback. Because if anything, it’s made me realise, how much thought I do put into how others might feel. I feel that sense of responsibility every time I post. But I also can’t control how others consume my content. YOU are responsible for that. NOT me. If it doesn’t make you feel good you need to unfollow. ⬇️
“I feel like a professional chef right now!!” “My eating is so chaotic, I have no schedule and it isn’t feeling good.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve heard this from so many of you ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get it! Right now things are chaotic, stressful and anything but typical.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are a few things I can offer you to consider right now to reduce stress around food and cooking:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Delegate/ share the cooking responsibilities with other people in your household. You do not have to do it all💕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Set up some structure to your week and plan some meals. If you normally planned meals, it may feel really good to keep planning meals right now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Ditch the guilt with eating right now. You’re doing what you need to for your mental health. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Before grocery shopping make yourself a list. Then shopping will be a little less stressful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Extend yourself something self compassion with regards to your eating and productivity (or lack there of ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Seek support (hey! I’ve got your back here ).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This past week I’ve been asking myself how I can support you in the best way. What I keep seeing this week with my clients is they are struggling with meal structure, guilt with emotional eating, anxiety with grocery shopping and what to do with groceries. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So each week at 8-8:40pm I’m running a “Tea and Chat with an RD” so I can provide you with support and answer your questions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sign up link in bio and at the ambitiousrd.com/events⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which one resonates the most with you today?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingofficial #mindfulness #mindfuleating #haes #nondiet #fatpositivedietitian #inclusivespace #yycsmallbusiness #yycbusiness #yycwomeninbusiness #yycladyboss #yycentrepreneur #calgary #yegladyboss #yycdietitian #yycwellness
Do you trust your body cues? It took me a while to trust mine. What helped was when my health coach pointed out that a lack of trust in our body cues is essentially a lack of trust in the One Who designed them into us. One of the principals of Intuitive Eating, which is the anti diet lens I coach through, is Honour Your Hunger. And in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, we are given instructions using that very same word of 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫. “You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own. God paid a great price for you. So use your body to 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫 God. (CEV,emphasis mine ). Notice how it’s a command to honour Him with our bodies, not a suggestion? And I believe that one way we honour Him with our bodies is by feeding our bodies adequately. Friends, it’s ALWAYS okay to eat when hungry and even sometimes when you aren’t hungry. It’s the trend overtime that counts, the picture that you get of your habits when you ZOOM OUT. As long as you mostly are eating when hungry, eating food just because you want it, that dark chocolate after supper each night or that birthday cake or extra serving of whatever, it’s OKAY. You honour your hunger when you eat when hungry. And by honouring that hunger, even if others around you aren’t, it’s honoring to God. "This too shall pass."🧡 . This is a long-time favorite quote of mine and a source of reassurance and comfort that has gotten me through some difficult times in my life. Whether your moments involve family stuff, work stuff, rejection, loss, mental illness or a global pandemic, words that inspire hope, can also inspire strength🦋 . Indeed, the unknown is scary. Not knowing how long these feelings will last is scary. But, the unknown can also inspire dreams, transformation, and an opportunity to begin again. Wherever your mind is, whatever feelings may come and go, take yourself back to the moments that made you laugh, the moments you were truly present, the moments that genuinely took your breath away. Use these moments as motivation🦋 . That said, set an intention every day. Even if that intention is just to get out of bed. Pay attention to what your body and mind need. This is the time to be patient and gentle with yourself. Take care of yourself. And if nothing else, try to take comfort in knowing that everything is temporary. This, too, shall pass 💚
Weekend mood 🤣 YOU DO YOU but as an introvert and lifelong pants-hater, virtual parties already sound like a kind of nightmare and adding the pressure to get dressed up and look nice? You can miss me with that 😂 but I am thoroughly enjoying my braless, makeup-free, leggings-laden existence. P.S. I am attended a zoom party tonight so I am not a total virtual party Scrooge 🎉 I will be dressed to impress in my coziest sweatpants and sweatshirt.

What ideas would you add to this list? Tell me in comments👇🏼 . . So many of my clients tell me: “I can’t live like this anymore, I’ve been trying to lose weight half my life. 😩I’m tired of thinking about food all the time, but I’m terrified to gain weight.” The feel afraid to heal their relationship with food. . . Then they ask me: “do you think I’m a terrible person?” 😬They feel bad when they discover they’re having a hard time accepting their bigger body. . . Let’s set the record straight: you are NOT a terrible person if you feel afraid of weight gain. ❤️ I was taught to fear fatness too. So was my mother. So was everyone else on this planet. I saw through my mother’s story the way the world is not welcoming to fat people. That’s why the diet industry is a $72 billion dollar operation: people make money off the wrong idea that being fat is bad. Even right now - in the middle of a global pandemic, diet culture expects us to focus on weight loss, of all things, during this difficult time. And it pisses me off. . . As a Registered Dietitian and a human being, I developed skills to unlearn the idea that fat = bad because these beliefs were harming myself and people I really care about. People like you. People like my mother, in her bigger body. I want to change the system of dieting that makes so many suffer. 💔 . . If you’re tired of the food guilt, but just cant get past the fear of weight gain, here’s how to you can #breakthedietcycle : . . 👉🏻Focus on who you are and how you feel instead of how you look. 👉🏻Learn Intuitive Skills so you can respect your right-now body. 👉🏻Grieve the loss of the body our culture told you you “should” have. 👉🏻Challenge yourself to support ALL bodies in finding safety in this process by calling out fatphobia when you see it . . My clients don’t come to me fully accepting their bodies just yet.🤷♀️ They commit to working on old beliefs so they can feel better in their day-to-day lives. I show you how to find peace around food and in your body so you can get on with living your life. It takes more strength than you realize to create a truly healthy relationship with food. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our brains function really well in an all-or-nothing, good or bad framework. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When was the last time you said, ‘well...I already ate x...so I might as well eat x.’ Or, ‘I ate x...so I’d better eat/do x to make up for it.’ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today? Yesterday? This month? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Right now, food is a major source of comfort for us. And that’s 100% okay. But it can also be a source of anxiety, guilt or shame. It runs deep. It comes from our culture, our media, and our upbringing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🍪 You are probably seeing just as many posts encouraging you to comfort bake as you are posts encouraging you to be as ‘healthy’ as you can (work out more! don’t eat sugar, because your immune system! ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💪 It takes a lot of strength to navigate those disparate messages and make the choices that serve you best. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💆🏻♀️ A healthy relationship isn’t either/or. It’s both/and. Your self care might not look like someone else’s...and it doesn’t have to. It’s about doing what is right FOR YOU. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✏️ This week, try this: when you notice a negative thought come up around food or self care, write it down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reread it, and decide whether it is the health behaviour that needs to change...or the thought. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If it’s the behaviour - say not exercising is making you feel more anxious - commit to one simple step to improve things: like doing a 15 minute yoga video or walk each day. Make it small and doable. Give yourself the win. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If it’s the thought - like guilt over eating four cookies - then rewrite the statement in a positive way. For example, ‘Those cookies were so delicious and eating them made me feel really happy.’ You might not believe it right now, but it takes practice to retrain your mind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now is the time for gentleness and self-compassion. If you wouldn’t say it to your best friend, don’t say it to yourself. 💗💗💗 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ __ #comfortfood #selfcompassion #selfcarematters #wellnessforall #nondiet
How do you deal when you feel a little *too* full before bed? Tell me in comments👇🏼 . . Many of my clients tell me they sometimes eat so much they have a hard time falling asleep and they really beat themselves up for it. 😰 . . It’s not always obvious when you feel full. Or maybe it is obvious, and you keep eating anyway? I get that. When it feels good to eat in the moment, I often want to eat more, too. 😋 This makes us human, you and me. 👯♀️ When we work together, I show you how to actually listen to your fullness so you can feel your best. 🙌🏻 . . This week, a client told me she is starting to sense her fullness A LOT better since using my No Guilt Framework. 🙌🏻 But she had a problem: once she heard it, she didn’t want to listen. 😬When I asked her why she didn’t want to stop eating, do you know what she said? . . She said “because the weekends when this happens are my only cheat days.” She was still stick in diet mindset, so of course the idea of stopping when full made her feel sad she might “miss out”! 😅 . . I helped her re-align her values around food away from “cheat-day mindset” and toward feeling her best so she could learn to stop eating when satisfied and *FINALLY* live life without food guilt. . . I hold you accountable to eat in ways that make you feel your best. My clients let go of food guilt following my proven No Guilt Framework and you can too. 🙌🏻👩💻 Here’s how: the next time you feel full, trust you can enjoy food again, whenever you want. 👍🏼 . . How are you doing? How are you feeling? Whatever your answer is to both questions, that is more than ok! The only thing you should not be feeling is shame for the food you have and are eating during this time. Take care of yourself. Don't let diet culture add to your stress. Diet culture doesn’t stop during a pandemic. . If anything, it ramps up, plays on your fears and tries to make you feel that there’s a right/wrong, good/bad way of eating that will heal you or keep you well. . The most important thing is that you’re eating, eating consistently, eating enough food. . Your eating disorder and diet culture will try to convince you otherwise but don’t buy in! . What’s your favorite food to have right now? Share in the comments or in my stories. . . #dietculture #dietculturesucks #dietculturedropout #dietculturedefense #antidiet #nondiet #fatpositive #fatacceptance #riotsnotdiets #momdietitian #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingofficial #intuitiveeatingjourney #haes #eatingdisorderrecovery #edrecovery #bulimiarecovery #bingeeatingdisorderrecovery #anorexianervosarecovery #foodpeace #bodykindness #foodfreedom #recoverywarriors #dietitianmom #dietculturelies #rd2be #weightstigma #haesig #healthateverysize #covid_19 . Hands up if you’ve seen more detox ads pop up on your IG feed than you can count!!! 🙋🏻♀️🤬 • • Chances are, most of what you think your body needs has been influenced by diet culture, and really, really good marketing 🤷🏻♀️ Marketing messages are created to target your pain points. And when you’re lead to believe that your body is wrong or flawed in some way, it becomes a pain point. So, products like detox teas, fat burners, fitness trackers, and the like become the ‘solution’ to that pain point. It’s pretty genius, really. ❌Your body doesn’t need to be a pain point. It doesn’t need to be a flaw that ‘should’ to be fixed. Your body still deserves kindness and compassion, but in more basic ways that you might expect 👇🏻 ✨Feed it ✨Clothe it ✨Rest it ✨Move it ✨Respect it And forget the rest. Your body is your vehicle to see the world, not a work-in-progress that never ends 🌈 • • In my 1:1 coaching, I help my clients challenge their food & body rules and rituals so they can implement heart-centred self-care that allows them to feel at home confident in their bodies. This is a difficult time for so many. Uncertainties are hard! . If you’re struggling with increased eating disorder thoughts, urges, or behaviors- know that it’s normal to struggle more during times of increased stress and emotions. . If you’re having a return of behaviors that you haven’t had in awhile- it’s not a sign of failure- it’s a sign that you’re overwhelmed and that there’s a lot going on. Please reach out for support. . These are just some friendly reminders about taking care of your basics for eating disorder recovery during a time of crisis. . What else would you add? . And to be clear- by stay connected I’m meaning virtually or other ways that still comply with social distancing! And for hobbies it’s not intended to say fly a kite (although you could ) it’s more to explore what you might like! . . #dietculture #dietculturesucks #dietculturedropout #dietculturedefense #antidiet #nondiet #fatpositive #fatacceptance #riotsnotdiets #momdietitian #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingofficial #intuitiveeatingjourney #haes #eatingdisorderrecovery #edrecovery #bulimiarecovery #bingeeatingdisorderrecovery #anorexianervosarecovery #foodpeace #bodykindness #covid -19 #recoverywarriors #dietitianmom #dietculturelies #rd2be #weightstigma #haesig #healthateverysize #validation .
