Good mooring! Decommissioned mooring chain, some of which is wrought iron & gorgeous timber. Some for project work but mostly because I can’t help myself! All ethically sourced. The last wrought iron foundry in the world was the Atlas Forge of Thomas Walmsley and Sons in Bolton, Great Britain, which closed in 1973. Its 1860s-era equipment was moved to the Blists Hill site of Ironbridge Gorge Museum for preservation. Some wrought iron is still being produced for heritage restoration purposes, but only by recycling scrap. For scale, I can get my arm through the holes of the shackle! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #mudlark #mudlarking #mooringchain #chain #anchorchain #bitterend #anchor #marine #shackle #timber #shipping #history #wrought #iron #blacksmith

On Sunday while mudlarking along the Thames, I found this beautiful silver pendant set with a real amber cabochon gemstone. The back of the pendant is open to allow light to pass through and accentuate the warm, glowing colours of the amber. Swipe left to see the lovely natural inclusions in the gemstone. . Amber is fossilized tree resin which is millions of years old. The oldest amber discovered on Earth is about 320 million years old. Not only appreciated for its colour and natural beauty, amber has been used for healing, protection and good luck since ancient times. Some people think wearing amber jewellery helps to balance the emotions, clear the mind and release negative energy. . I love the beautiful curves of this pendant. I’m not sure how old it is, but style reminds me of the extraordinary Art Nouveau style of the early 20th century. What do you think? #mudlark #mudlarking #beachcombing

Sadly the Dr. kilmer's bottle that I found was missing one whole side panel. From NPS: "Like so many other patent medicines of the times, Dr. Kilmer’s cures were a mix of roots, herbs, and a hearty dose of alcohol. While it is possible that these plant-based additives did lend healing properties, it was more likely that any relief experienced by those taking the remedy was due to the substantial amount of alcohol present. However, unlike many other patent medicines, Dr. Kilmer’s Remedies did not contain any morphine, opium or cocaine that were so often included in medicine formulas." #mudlarker #mudlarks #mudlarkingfinds #mudlarking #beachfind #beachfinds #beachtreasure #beachcomber #beachcombing #landfills #landfillsnottheendofthestory #bottledump #bottledigging #bottledigger # #beachcombingfinds #vintagelitter #retrorubbish #vintagebottle #seamarble #sherdsofinstagram #seaglasshunting #seaglass #idighistory #idighistorictrash #dumpsitefinds #beachtreasure #mudlarker #mudlarks #mudlarkingfinds #mudlarking #beachfind #beachfinds #beachtreasure #beachcomber #beachcombing #landfills #landfillsnottheendofthestory #bottledump #bottledigging #bottledigger # #beachcombingfinds #vintagelitter #retrorubbish #vintagebottle #seamarble #sherdsofinstagram #seaglasshunting #seaglass #idighistory #idighistorictrash #dumpsitefinds #beachtreasurers

It just started raining on this hot August day. Trying to relax watching mudlarking videos on YouTube ala @tidelineart ...but with a one year old who loves to climb everything, and a six year old who desperately wants to socialize with his friends and is always bored here apparently, im finding myself struggling to have any “me time.” I know I’m not at all alone in this of course, not sure why I’m writing all this...I guess just wanting to vent a little while also trying to remind that this is not for forever, please wear a mask, we can do this, and all that jazz. Ok now I’m off to go get the toddler who is splashing in the dog water bowl. Have a good night all! . . . . . #frazzledmama #stretchedtoothin #multitaskingmama #crystaljewelery #ammonitenecklace #pastwork #wearadamnmask #blacklivesmatter #VOTE2020 #hurricaneisaias #coastalart #mudlarking #archeologywannabe #aurajewelry #etsyshop #etsyseller #witchywoman #seawitch #littlemermaid #mermaidnecklace

Dear racist white liberals, Stop trying to police us on our own page. We don’t need you to correct what we do in the outdoors, just like we don’t give a shit that you disapprove of how we talk about race. Tools Of The Trade : Part 1 - Sanborn Maps 🗺️ • The Sanborn Map Company published detailed maps of US cities and towns during the 19th and 20th centuries. These maps were used to help insurance companies assess their liability in urban areas. • With these Sanborn fire insurance maps I can map out property lines, privies, and sometime town boundaries. I then cross reference these maps with modern satellite maps from Google to find probable dump sites to explore. 🕵🏾‍♂️ • You can find Sanborn Maps like this one though the Library of Congress website. Their search engine is super helpful when trying to find historal documents! 🧭

New bottle dump, across the road (I mean, why drag it to a dump if you can just push it off the back yard into the lake? ). What I believe to be a Cutex bottle from late 40's/early 50's (the most beautiful bottle in the world! ), a Revlon bottle (with brush, polish and smell when you open it! Says Revlon on bottom, can't get a good shot ) A Bonat bottle, a company who I can only find lawsuits against so that's awesome. Based on some other stuff I've found I assume it's some sort of perm cream. The usual ponds jars as well as one I cannot identify and has screw threads on both ends...I'm a sucker for milk glass tho. Colgate Ribbon tooth creme. Rayve hair cream. Dating the pile to early 50's, hopeful for older. There is something enchanting about holding such personal items, the user's long dead and gone, forgotten. We live on in the oddest ways. #bottles #bottledump #mudlarking #digginginthedirt #dirtfishing #midden #trash #intothelake #cutex #revlon #cosmetics #vintage #1950s

We're in a world that needs plenty of change. As metal detectorists we may have some extras change to spare. I invite you to join me in using the hashtag #cladforchange whenever you post a picture of your clad finds. Using this hashtag means that you have committed any % of your clad to charity. I firmly believe that whether you commit 1% or 100% of your clad to charity your contributions will make a difference, and your enjoyment of this great hobby will increase. Yesterday as I was night-larking along the Thames, I spotted this beautiful cluster of red garnets lying on the riverbed, illuminated by my head lamp. They are natural, uncut semi-precious gemstones which are not native to the Thames, but are probably originally from Southeast Asia. No one knows for sure how these garnets ended up in the Thames. There are many theories, but it is still an unsolved mystery. How do you think they ended up at the bottom of the river? #mudlark #mudlarking #beachcombing

I found this little Victorian tea cup just the other week on the Thames Estuary. As a teacup it's pretty, but not that remarkable, a mass-produced object with a broken handle, but the barnacles have turned it into something special. In its life it was chosen, bought and treasured, part of a set, the companion to a saucer. It served countless cups of tea that refreshed, revived and consoled its owner until one day it was dropped and broke. Thrown away, it joined other unwanted objects that were were carted away to a waiting barge that floated downstream on the ebb tide to the Estuary where it was dumped. For years it was home to crabs and barnacles until I brought it home a few weeks ago and set it aside to wash then my son broke it. A clean break, an accident, another chapter in the teacup's life. I considered glueing the two parts together, but doesn't it deserve more? Kintsugi, where objects are repaired with gold or silver and the breakage and repair become part of the history and beauty of the object, is the perfect way for this object to continue its journey through time, barnacles and all. I'm sending it to an expert, Iku @kintsugioxford , I hope she can work around those barnacles! #LondonMudlark #Mudlark #Mudlarking
