I'll be honest.. I didn't quite understand what everyone meant when they said "you're starting residency during a pandemic, be prepared".⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Everyday, I walk into every patient's room with an N95, a surgical mask, and a face shield. I can't wait to take them off because I have a hard time taking deep breaths in them. But I can't.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Every time I leave a patient's room, I have so much anxiety about any possible way I could've contaminated myself. Did I sanitize enough times? Were my gloves on properly? Did my face shield move at all?⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Everyday I see nurses do their very best to provide the sickest patients with the care they need.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Every day I have a family member calling in asking what we can do to help their family.. whether its a new trial they read about or something else.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Everyday I see case managers/social workers do their very best to make sure that these patients who are "COVID survivors" have the proper care they need at home.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Everyday, I am more critical of myself than I thought I’d be. And most of this is because I know that I’m dealing with patients who can get very sick very fast, due to this virus. It’s like the adrenaline never leaves me. Even when I come home, I check my charts to make sure my patients are doing okay.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I'm learning to not be hard on myself. I am consuming so much information every day, and the emotional baggage I take home every day is not light. I really care for the patients I'm in charge of. I thank the nurses who have been so patient with me. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ At the start of this rotation, you couldn’t tell the difference between me and a chicken with it’s head cut off.⁣⁣ And now, at the the almost halfway mark, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made. I’ve learned that to really progress, I had to be humble about my weaknesses, but not let my failures define my attitude. This really comes into play when you’re working in a fast paced setting. You just gotta keep moving forward. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ And so I tell you, keep moving forward.. for whatever it is in life. ❤️ There’s people to see, there’s people to save 👩🏻‍⚕️

Women hold two-thirds of America's $1.6 Trillion Student Loan Debt. The average borrower takes 21 years to pay off what they borrowed in college. They say that African American women are the most educated women in America, but they are also underpaid earning just 62 cents of every dollar. We were able to help one woman get on a plan, to pay off her $76,000 student loan balance in 10 years. ✔Eliminating the debt quicker

𝚃𝚑𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚍𝚊𝚢 𝟾/𝟼/𝟸𝟶 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• qotd: where do you see yourself in one year? ••••••••• In one year I see myself graduated from college with a B.S in Neuroscience and a B.A. in Psychology. I will hopefully be enjoying my summer after undergrad and traveling and resting! I will be starting my new masters program soon, and preparing to move again. Those are the goals I have for myself in one year: ) ••••••••• Let me tell you guys, today was ROUGH! I did not want to get out of bed, and I was getting sick of studying in the same place. So with no libraries or coffee shops open.. I went for the next best thing: the BEACH!! Studying at the beach was so relaxing and cleansing, and I was actually crazy productive. I might start making studying at the beach a regular thing: ) I also did some beach yoga🧘🏽‍♀️ It was a little funny the amount of students with their backpacks at the beach, we have no where else to go 😂 Hope you all had a good Thursday 💓✨ • • • • • • tags: #bujo #bulletjournal #studyblr #premed #mcat #medschool #premedlife #premedmotivation #premedstudent #mcatmotivation #futuredoc #futuremd #medicalmotivation #studymedicine #medblr #collegestudent #bulletjournal #bujo #bujoinspiration #bujonerd #bujoideas #bulletjournallovers #bulletjournalspread #bulletjournals #bulletjournalweekly

CHILE THE FOOLERY🤦🏾‍♀️....Continuing to ask black and brown folk to deal with social injustice, protest and a pandemic that is disproportionately affecting us and somehow sit for an MCAT that reflects access /privilege rather than intelligence is outrageous. The @aamctoday came out today saying they won’t make the MCAT online or waive because it is their way of preventing inequity in the application process?!?! Make this make sense 🧐 Swipe for deets and receipts 👉🏾 It seems like this is driven by coins and folks trying to secure the bag rather than looking out for student safety and and making the Doctor dream accessible to ALL NOT JUST THE PRIVILEGED. #DoBetter ..... we’ll discuss this more on #DoctorPowerHour later tonight at 11PM CST Dr. Denmark ( @vintagegal84 ) • • • • #projectdiversifymedicine #doctor #medicalstudent #blackphysicians #premed #blackdoctors #medicalschool #futuredoctor #medstudent #latinodoctor #inspiration #beyonce #spelman #Morehouse #hbcu #BIOPIC #Feminism #blackisking #blackparade #mcat #mcatstudying #aamcmcat #studentdoctor #blog #latinadoctors #essencemagazine #futuredoctors #blackblackblack .

. . Since I've worked with minority student (and I was one myself ) I understand what really plagues them. And no it's not the MCAT... it's the fact that they did not have a good early education where they were engrained the study habits that are needed to succeed! Not many students were taught how to study but this is even more the case in disadvantaged communities. That is why if you are struggling as a student that you need to realize it's not entirely your fault. But now that you know that I have the resources to teach you how to study, you have no excuse to STAY a bad student! . . So click the link in my bio TODAY and start getting the resources you need to improve as a student! _______________________________________ #prehealth #medschool #premed #medicine #collegeprep #anesthesiologist #studyskills #mcat #studytips #doctorsofinstagram #unique #exceptional #exception #premedlife #medlife #blackgreatness #blackdoctors #learnlife #studyingabroad #doctors #instadoctor #study 📚 #selfeducation #studyinspo #exam #exams

. . There are some students that don't want to invest in courses or coaching because it is too expensive for them but yet when the newest Yeezys drop, they spend $200 on a pair of shoes... Because of that instant gratification... DON'T LET THAT BE YOU! . . Recently I've set a new goal for myself that will invest $500 per month in improving myself. That could be investing in courses, coaching, etc but I rather invest that money in myself that spend it on some shoes that I will be sick of in a couple of years anyways. The best and brightest minds all do this. The invest in coaches, courses, classes, etc that will work on their weaknesses to make them better! So if you are ready to become a better version of yourself, schedule a coaching call today and we can make it happen! _______________________________________ #prehealth #medschool #premed #medicine #collegeprep #anesthesiologist #studyskills #mcat #studytips #doctorsofinstagram #unique #exceptional #exception #premedlife #medlife #bachelorsdegree #worldchangers #learnlife #studyingabroad #doctors #instadoctor #study 📚 #selfeducation #studyinspo #exam #exams

Once a week, Air Force Major John Trentini, M.D., Ph.D., attends classes, lectures and conferences that help him prepare for the board exam. In addition, he spends time in the simulation lab training for patient care and in the research lab developing ways nanoparticles can prevent damage caused by an acute stroke. When he returns to active duty, he will use this academic training to identify and solve operational gaps on the battlefield.

It only takes ☝️! It only takes one school to look past your weak points, view your whole story, and give you a chance. It doesn't matter what everyone else says. You don't need to be a perfect premed in everyone's eyes. The fact is that different medical schools will view you differently, and it only takes one "yes" to be on your way to becoming a physician. Do you agree??

I can’t say enough about slide #9 . PERSONALLY, unless you’re a mother who had a teenage son murdered, I’d avoid giving any type of “advice” anything that resembles the statements on that slide. Sometimes, it’s better to know when to be quiet & just be there in whatever way possible for the family. 🙏 ———— Lastly, just gotta say this real quick, (sometimes I get folks comin’ at me sideways in the DMs ): This is the way I answered this question, but you don’t need to follow it if you don’t want to, promise! I’m sure there’s other ways! 😁 ———— Feel free to comment down below your thoughts friends! ❤️😌 ————

*FREE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES!!!* ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since moving back home from San Diego, I’ve been looking for different ways to get involved in my community. I’ve joined as a volunteer for a mobile clinic, worked as a scribe at a private medical practice, and spoke to high schoolers about my journey through college. But once COVID hit, everything unfortunately slowed to a halt. Through university accounts on IG and being a part of the MiMentor community, I have found two great opportunities that may be of interest to you all! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fresno State has partnered with The Hub for Language Teaching and Learning in offering a FREE online course in Functional Spanish for Emergency Medical Responders. The awesome part is that the course is asynchronous, meaning there is no set schedule and you learn at your own pace! (Also, you don’t have to live in Fresno to register ) Although registration for the current class is closed, you can still complete a form to be notified of the next class! This is a great learning opportunity if you are currently an emergency responder such as a scribe/EMT/nurse/PCA/CNA/fire fighter/police officer/etc. interested in learning Spanish. The list goes on… it’s great to know if you are currently or planning on serving the vast Hispanic/Latino communities within the Central Valley. http://fresnostate.edu/cge/professional/essential/funct-spanish.html ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ UCSF Fresno is holding a ‘Meet and Greet’ Webinar (via ZOOM ) for the new and 2nd year UCSF SJV Prime Program students. If you are interested in a similar field of medicine, serving underserved and underrepresented communities like I am, this is a great learning opportunity even if you’re not from the Central Valley! Register using the link by August 09, 2020! Additional info is on the flyer! https://bit.ly/SJVWebinarAug10 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let me know if you guys sign-up or what you think of the class/webinar afterwards! I’d love to hear your thoughts and connect with you friends! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ *Disclaimer: Information and comments expressed in my posts are not endorsed by the company I work for nor the schools I have attended

Synthroid (levothyroxine ) is indicated for the replacement or supplemental therapy in hypothyroidism. The availability of levothyroxine may differ among marketed brands, and therefore once stabilized on a particular brand, avoid switching brands and caution if brands are changed. The starting dose of Synthroid, the frequency of dose titration and the optimal maintenance dose must be individualized for each patient, based on a number of factors such as age, weight, cardiovascular status, comorbid illnesses and severity and duration of hypothyroid symptoms. Synthroid should be started and titrated with caution in elderly patients and patients with CVD (such as angina, CAD, HTN ). Start and increase doses at lower dose increments. If cardiac symptoms develop or worsen, the dose should be reduced or withheld for one week and then cautiously restarted at a lower dose.  _________________________ DISCLAIMER: for educational purposes only _________________________ #pharmacist   #pharmacy   #pharmacyschool   #pharmd   #doctor   #medicalschool   #medications   #futurepharmacist   #pharmdtobe   #pharmacisttobe   #futurepharmd   #futuredoctor   #futuremd   #medicalstudent   #medstudent   #nursingstudent   #physicianassistant   #mcat   #pharmacology   #pharmacotherapy   #nursepractioner   #FOAMed   #meded   #medicaleducation   #naplex #nclex #pharmacytech #pharmacytechnician

Faking it till you make it, is exactly the BS mentality that people have been spewing for years that has never made any sense to me. People tell you that "premed is supposed to be hard, so if you're miserable just keep pushing through..." BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE! There is no reason in 2020 you can't be happy as a student AND be a premed! The reason that students are stressed, have anxiety, and are miserable is because they were never equipped with the necessary resources to succeed! . . What if I told you there was a way where you could study only 2 hours a day and have the other 14 hours you are awake to do whatever you want with. That is what happens when you WORK SMART! So many of you guys go to the library for an entire day yet get nothing done. But what if you limited yourself to just 2 hours, it would become more of a sprint than a marathon wouldn't it? . . This concept of working smart completely transformed myself as a student. after I made that mindset shift, I was able get amazing grades while being able to live like a college student as well. . . What do you guys think? Would you rather work hard or smart? Working smart helped me get into Stanford Medical School! If you are interested in becoming an expert in everything there is to do with studying click the link in my bio to head over to my website and transform yourself as a study today! _______________________________________ #prehealth #medschool #premed #mentorship #collegeprep #nonprofit #studyskills #mcat #studytips #doctorsofinstagram #leadershipskills #exceptional #exception #premedlife #medlife #bachelorsdegree #worldchangers #learnlife #studyingabroad #doctors #instadoctor #collegeprep #selfeducation #studyinspo #exam #exams

Well friends... I am officially done with content review! Here’s what worked for me: 👉 read and took notes on 1-2 chapters per day of the Kaplan books 👉 made my notes into Anki cards every day and reviewed cards the next day. This meant that I was reviewing cards from all topics every day towards the end of my content review studying ⭐️ this process of reading, taking notes, and creating flash cards took a lot of time, but it was very effective because I was reading the information, writing it down, reading it again, writing it down again, and then quizzing myself on it using flash cards. Repetition is key! 👉 did one subject book at a time so I could see the whole picture and how all the pieces fit together 👉 started with my “easiest” subjects. This meant I covered my hardest subjects the closest to my test 👉 supplemented with youtube videos 👉 made sure I COMPLETELY understood the material I was covering each day. In my opinion, it’s better to put in the time and learn information completely the first time rather than have to spend time re-teaching it to yourself at a later date 👉 quizzed myself on the information I learned each day using the chapter quizzes in my review books. I took these like a test (no outside resources, no breaks ) and kept track of my scores. Now for practice tests and review until my exam! What worked best for you during the content review phase? #premed #anki #notes #kaplan #mcat #mcatprep #contentreview #study #grind #motivation #hardwork

✨•𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲•✨ • • Finding better balance, staying organized, working SMARTER not HARDER. Here’s my advice: 1️⃣Create a dedicated workspace. Be sure to personalize this workspace of things you feel inspire you like small widgets or anatomy posters from @codexanatomicus . These should be things that inspire you to work harder, even when you don’t have the motivation. 2️⃣Get Organized. Set a schedule. Create dedicated time throughout your day for your work or school work. Be sure to get a good planner like those offered by @bulletjournal or @moleskine . Include the list of things that need to get done throughout the day or week to check things off of your list of things to do. 3️⃣Take as many classes as you can ONLINE. This will give you the flexibility to do the things you love. Thankfully schools are creating more opportunities for people to get their education. 4️⃣Always have a backup. I can’t stress enough that regardless of how long it takes to get to where you need to be, have a backup before you exhaust yourself trying to reach that goal. Remember, it’s a journey, not a race; you will get to where you need to be once everything transpires. 5️⃣Minimize distractions, and try to multitask to ease your list of things to do. Sometimes it’s inevitable. For exams and assignments, be sure to keep yourself focused on the goals at hand. It can be difficult to keep yourself motivated and focused with distractions around you. 6️⃣Pace yourself. Remember that taking time off to do the things you love to do is okay. Don’t be afraid to take a day off and refresh before you start to hit your goals again. 7️⃣Give yourself time (and a lot of coffee my personal favorite @cafebustelo ). It’s okay to turn on a Netflix show in order to complete work that needs to be done. It’s okay to order takeout 🥡 if you’re busy taking up assignments

FALL CLASSES? ONLINE??? My school announced that they are doing 95% online for the fall semester. This means that most classes will be done online asynchronous or with online lectures. And for me, all of my classes are online including a lab! While this wasn’t the way I wanted to end my last semester in undergrad, I am still very grateful that we can continue to take our classes and be able to stay on track to whatever is coming next. For now, I’m just trying to finish organic chemistry 2 (4 days left!! ) and then I get 2 weeks off before the fall semester begins. Has your school decided to go completely online for the fall???

🚨 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝗺𝐞𝐝𝐬! 🚨 I just found a great MCAT resource for you guys that’s super affordable! ★ A little back story about me first. I am a first generation Asian-American. When my parents first immigrated over to the US, my dad worked 3 jobs and my mom worked from home as a seamstress to take care of my sister and I. We were poor, like dirt poor. I only wore my sister’s hand me downs and I got my “new” school clothes from goodwill. ★ So growing up I never asked for much. To go to college, I relied on scholarships and financial aid. But when time hit for me to start studying for the MCAT, I hit a roadblock. These Kaplan course were 𝐭𝐡𝗼𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 of dollars. How the hell am I going to afford this?? So I didn’t. I tried to self study for the MCAT because I just couldn’t afford any prep courses. ★ Well, we all know how that turned out lol I failed the MCAT, 𝐭𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐞. Looking back, I wish I had done a prep course because I probably would’ve actually learned something and not have done so poorly on the MCAT. ★ But anyways, here’s what I found! @testingforvictory is a small company that started to provide for people like me! The course is only $199 itself. (So cheap already right?? ) 𝐁𝐔𝐓, if you’re qualified for AAMC’s financial assistance program, there’s a $120 discount! So the course is only $79!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯 if you need financial assistance but don’t exactly quality for the AAMC’s FAP, then there’s additional discounts that you can work out with them. ★ I honestly wish there was a program like this when I was studying for the MCAT. So affordable and you can try out the course for the first 7 days and if you don’t like it, you can get a refund if you didn’t watch more than 20% of the video content. ★ I say freaking go for it guys! Use the resources and 𝓼𝓵𝓪𝔂 that exam! Spread the word to all your premed friends because I feel like this is a great deal that I wouldn’t pass up! 🤩 tag em in the comments below! 🏷 ★ 𝚅𝚒𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢 𝚒𝚜 𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚘𝚗𝚕𝚢 𝚘𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗!
