Our homeschool year is scheduled to end after spring break (March 30th-April 24th ) & it’s been a challenge since we can’t travel as planned, but we’re making the most of it. ⠀ ⠀ We’ve been doing lots of art, along with a little bit of literacy & math. We also rearranged things & our homeschool room is in a bigger space so the boys can comfortably run around & do whatever they want. It was initially in a small cozy spot since they could freely go outside to burn their energy & explore nature. ⠀ ⠀ I was hoping to register Zayd for a STEM camp this summer, but we just might have to do our own thing at home 😄

Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes i fail my children. Sometimes there are days when i can’t seem to get anything right, and the trails of life burden me to the core. ✝️Lord, when these times come, please help me to remember that i have hope in you. We have a regular Houdini in our house. We were trying to do lessons on vowels and consonants. The girls were already distracted enough as it was and Ozzy had "flown the coop" numerous times... lessons were cut short when I Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest! BTW this was escape 10 in just a short amount of time! Hans needs to rig up the bird cages tonight to prevent The Great Escape again! Guess I'll go make some more coffee while I find some zip ties for a temporary solution! 🤣❤🤣❤🤣 #Cockatoo #Ozzy #OzzyTheCockatoo #UmbrellaCockatoo #birdsofinstagram #parrotsofinstagram #ExoticBirds #Homeschooling #SecularHomeschool #HomeschoolingMama #Houdini #EscapeArtist #HoudiniOfBirds #JCAviaries

With Easter being this weekend, and coming off of spring break last weekend, I planned a review week for Charlotte. One of the easiest letter review games is a holiday letter hunt. Today I scattered all of her letter cards on the floor, called out a letter (Charlotte, can you bring Mommy the letter F card? ) and she and Bunny had to hop and find the card. This is a simple way to review letters through play. 🐇 🌸

Quarantine life at its best. 10am and still laying around. School work usually begins around 10:30. Does anyone wake their kids up early to get their work done? Just curious. I just like them to have everything done by lunch so it’s not lingering all day. Every now and then we have something to finish up later in the day, but typically we are done by around 12-1. Then, we try to get outside as much as possible to break up the day. #homeschoollifestyle

If the last few weeks have been full of high highs and low lows for your family, know you aren’t alone.⁣ ⁣ In fact, I can say the same thing about my own family lately, considering I have my four children home as well as my husband, all working and schooling under one roof.⁣ ⁣ But if there’s any silver lining through this whole situation, I think it’s how close we’re forced to be with our family. ⁣ ⁣ So as much as you can, savor these extra moments with your family. The baking projects. The virtual visits to the zoo. ⁣ ⁣ And if you feel like you’re getting waaaaay too much family time...that’s OK too. But check episode 25 of The 3D Parent Podcast for tips that can make homeschooling during the pandemic a lot less stressful. ⁣ ⁣ Just don’t forget to come back here and let me know in the comments how you’re connecting with your kids during this time! . . . . . #realparenting #honestmom #tipsformoms #aintnohoodlikemotherhood #homeschoolingmom #homeschoolingideas #homeschoolingmama #covid #covidkindness #covidhomeschool #parentingtips #parentinghack #inspiremothers #gentleparenting #homeschoolmom #femalepodcasts #parentingcoach #parentingcoaching #positiveparenting #mindfulparenting #messymotherhood #raisingtinyhumans #mommymode #howwehomeschool #gettingmommywithit #realmomlife #motherhoodthroughig #momhacks #realmotherhood #lifeasmama

This is one of the ways I am taking care of me in this strange season of life we all find ourselves in. That I always take care of me really. * * I have three or four books on the go usually, plus my bible. And I intentionally weave little pockets in the day to sit and tuck into something that is going to stimulate my mind and help me see beyond the four walls of my life and circumstance, or how to enrich them instead. Usually first thing before the kids wake, after lunch during our quiet reading our, and before bed. Little and often does add up, and I find myself able to read so many books by prioritising paper over scrolling during these three times of day. I was encouraged to read this quote by @karenandreola in her wonderful book #thecharlottemasoncompanion (which I highly recommend! ): “A wise woman...when asked how, with her weak physical health and many demands upon her time, she managed to read so much said, “Besides my Bible, I always keep three books going that are just for me - a stiff book, a moderately easy book and a novel, and I always take up the one I feel fit for.” That is the secret: always having something “going” to grow by”. 🦋 My current stiff book is one by @derek_prince_worldwide - challenging, thought provoking, life changing in some ways. I wouldn’t call @karenandreola ‘s Charlotte Mason Companion easy, but it has definitely been inspiring and encouraging and I have picked up so many tips that I can weave into our family life. And yesterday I picked up Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women (a thoughtful gift from my sweet friend @emilyawalrus when my youngest was born! ) for the first time in years and breathed in the sweet familiarity of a childhood favourite, empathising with Mrs March more than Jo for the first time because of my own little girl tribe. Anyhow, I have ten minutes before my girls descend for breakfast, so back to my 📚 and ☕️ for one for me. Do post book recommendations in the comments below, I am always on the lookout for good titles. Love to all. And be kind to yourself today xx #motherculture #homeschoolingmama #booknerd #bookworm #littleandoften #goodbooks #whatmotherreads #metime #selfcare #myhappyplace

What an interesting couple of months it has been so far. Life is different. Our routines are different. We have more time in our hands to do other things. Delve into more books, tackle those TBR piles, spend quality time with your immediate family. Start things that have been in the back burner for a while. Besides all the things just mentioned the last one is what I have been doing since this shelter-in-place began. ⠀ ⠀ 🦋⠀ ⠀ For the longest time I’ve wanted to, not only change my Instagram to a more bookish one, but also I’ve always wanted to start a blog about books and homeschooling. I’ve watched others do it and was just scared to even begin something like that. You know how it is, you get bogged down by the what-ifs in life.. what if it’s not good, what if no one follows?... etc... the list can go on as we all know. But you know, after all the what-if’s I heard a small still voice say “there’s no time like the present, tomorrow is not promised.” And so I did it! I started a blog of my very own! And it’s a scary, exciting feeling all at the same time! ⠀ ⠀ 🦋⠀ ⠀ I love this quote by my favorite Anne of Green Gables. It spoke to me. I took it as “You won’t know it’s a failure unless you try.”So I’m trying it and so far I’m enjoying this new outlet. It’s brand new so there’s not much content but I’d love for you to check it out! ⠀ ⠀ Link is in the bio under Blog Name: Musings of a Sassy Bookish Mama ⠀ Hope to see you there! ⠀ #sassybookishmama #newbloggerintown #homeschoolingmama #christianhomeschoolingfamily #christiansahm #sassychickylockets #bookblogger #christianbookblogger #blogspotblogger #newadventuresarescary #anneofgreengablesquotes

📚I'm a homeschooling momma of 5.⁣ ⁣ About 4 years ago, I knew something was a little "off" but I couldn't really figure out what. ⁣ ⁣ I was tired a lot, irritable a lot, needed naps on the regular, was a SLAVE to my sugar cravings, and suffered from some digestive issues that to me were normal because constipation, bloating, and sharp pain in my stomach were just something I had always dealt with since I was a little girl. ⁣ ⁣ Since I've started supplementing my healthy diet with gut health supplements , I now have a properly functioning digestive system 🙌🏼 ⁣ ⁣ Didn't even realize that was possible!! I'm also now in control of my cravings instead of the other way around, and because I felt so much better #hormones #balance ⁣ ⁣ I started exercising #noNaps and I'm 10lbs lighter than I was when I started. #goodsideeffects 😉 ⁣ ⁣ I am feeling better in my 30s than I did in my 20s!! 💕 My husband and I will be completing our second Spartan race next month!! 👊🏼 #spartansuper ⁣ So thankful for good supplements to help give my body what it needs to balance and run smoothly. ⁣ ⁣ Thank you for reading my story~ Brittany❥❥❥

Here’s to documenting an 80 degree day in early April. Was today perfect? Nope! I made my kids take a nap today, if that tells you anything. But was our day pretty awesome, for no other reason than the blue skies, sunshine, warmth, backyard water play and pizza takeout dinner on the deck? Yep. Normal sibling bickering and occasional whining on a day like this is 1000 times better than on a day when it’s cold and dreary! Good bye weird summer-like weather. Storms blew in tonight and brought a significant temperature drop with them. Hello cold normal spring weather. Snowflakes are in our forcast next week. Why though?!? 😭 The older I get, the more I think I was meant to plant my roots in the South.

MAMA’S!!! GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE!!! ❤️ ⠀ ⠀ It was just one of those days... I may have cried a couple of times this afternoon. 🤷‍♀️ 😉 Like right after my kids 3rd tantrum and argument with me 😳!! ⠀ ⠀ This change in routine has thrown us ALL off!! It’s an adjustment. Not every day is gonna be perfect . LOTS of trial and error! 🤦‍♀️ ⠀ ⠀ Can you relate mama?! Just give yourself some GRACE...ok well let’s be honest... we all may need A LOT of it right now!! 🤣 ⠀ ⠀ I’m in the trenches with ya sister!! 💕 Doing the best I can each day... starting the day with the word, prayer, gratitude and meditation (and a shower and a little make up would have been nice but thank goodness for dry shampoo and hats! #justsayin ) Oh and counting my blessings, even when they make me lose my mind!! 🤣 🧒 👧 ⠀ ⠀ Tag a mama and let her know she’s not alone!!! ❤️ 😘 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #homeschoolingmama #lockdown #covid19 #progressoverperfection

Taking a 30 minute neighborhood walk on good weather days with my girl is a new morning rhythm during this #stayhome time. 💕 . In every change of life season, I’ve had to find rhythms that benefit my mental health. When I was a nanny, I used to clock out for a morning break after preschool drop-off, just so I could take a 30 minute walk in the park. When I was a brand new mom to twins and home for several months, I worked in a few stroller walks around the neighborhood each day. When my twins turned one, I joined a gym and a mom’s group to give myself a small break. When my boys started kindergarten and we decided we wanted to homeschool, we felt hybrid homeschool was the best fit for us. . I’m once again finding myself in a new normal, only this time I wasn’t getting any breaks. The gym is closed. Hybrid homeschool days are canceled. All kid sports are canceled. Church canceled. Library closed. Play dates with friends are a no-go. It’s just me and the kids at home all day everyday, and in spite of what people think homeschooling looks like, I can tell you what we are doing right now is not how we normally homeschool! Matt is locking himself in our room everyday from 7-6 for work, while I maintain life with the kids on my own, outside of our bedroom. So over the weekend, I asked him if I could go on a morning walk each day. I’d take Charlotte, because she likes walks and can still fit in a stroller. I’d leave the boys on the couch watching a tv show, because they don’t like walks and it would be easy for him to listen for them while I was away. All that to say, I feel a lot better when I get back from a quiet walk.

When asked if homeschooling is best for us. I say Yes. When asked if it is best for me. I say Yes, because the sacrifice is worth it. Eve if it is really hard on me. Loving requires sacrifice itself I was given these kids as a gift (even if it is not always a fun gift ). They wont always be here, needing me. These moments when they are motivated and focusing on the task at hand... I see a new beauty. Something I dont always pause long enough to see. I see so much GROWTH. Nature Nurture Life It all becomes a part of who we are. God uses all of it to shape us. And... We get to decide if we will let Him guide what we do with it, Or if we blame and choose to let it control us.

“It’s a wondrous thing how the wild calms the child” This sweet girl lost her kitty cat last night. We all had a terrible night, stayed up searching everywhere we could for her, we kept waking up through the night thinking we had heard her. Woke up at 6 and set on the mission to find her. Drove, walked, looked...nothing. We decided to come inside, and get our mind off of it from a while and get some school done, but after trying for a while we realized we were all overwhelmed by our feelings and couldn’t focus. We decided to try going for a hike. Nature was beautiful. Saw a couple of cardinals, the boys found a cool skull, some fathers and bones of a bird, and this girl our #animalwhisperer amphibian lover found this guy right here. Mr. Todd Spring (any animal found must immediately be given a name ) 🤗😄 🍃 NATURE: It brought a smile to her face. It dried her tears. It gave us a breath of fresh air. Turns out #A9 ‘cat had ran into our neighbors garage, they had closed it and she had gotten stuck inside. It now seems like a silly funny story but we all felt so down today....it’s crazy how much it hurst when our sweet furry friends go missing 😌♥️🐱 And now if you’d excuse me....good night 🥱😴 #1000daysoutside #thankfulfornature #natureheals #outinnature #losingourmind #findingoursoul #naturehikers

Looking far too happy for butchering day. But hey, we get to eat our Thanksgiving turkey fresh from our homestead, which does make me happy 👌🏻 we’ve always enjoyed food, but it’s 500x more enjoyable when it’s your own (literal ) blood, sweat, and tears growing it ; ) It was actually @kayciknco making me laugh trying to get pictures to prove we are apart of the process too, but still 😜. HOMESCHOOLING MY TEEN⠀ . ⠀ Well, not quite.. Thankfully his school’s distance learning program kicks in next week lol but we are definitely working on building all of his creative strengths. Kam is currently taking mobile photography and graphic design as electives in school. He is extremely creative and loves to express himself through his work and his personal style.⠀ .⠀ Today, I had kam create mama’s content. He picked out his outfit (I just tried to match his swag, ) found the location for our shoot, set up the tripod, snapped a few pics, selected “the shot,” and edited in #lightroom . Not too shabby! 😉❤️ . How is your homeschooling experience going?

Living a nomadic lifestyle with three kids is challenging - 3 kids equals 3 different sets of needs. I’m their teacher, cook, tour guide, friend, nurse, entertainer, and anything else in between. Mark usually works around 40-50 hours a week, so most of the things are on me during the day. I get to experience their good, bad, and horrible moods - there is no escape. I feel extremely close to my kids, but they can be suffocating at times. But when all is said and done, it’s extremely nice to see how well they work together when it comes down to it. We are not following a curriculum at the moment - we try to encourage them to ask questions and to investigate what they want to know. Traveling makes this a lot easier because of new surroundings and environments we get to encounter. At the moment, we are learning a lot about where chocolate and coffee comes from and obviously volcanos. We don’t just talk about chocolate or coffee - we talk about farming, water usage, labor, and even slavery. There is so much to learn and it’s sometimes hard to keep up with all of the questions Zoë and Quentin bombard me with, but I’m loving their never-ending hunger for more knowledge. ‘Mom, how many countries does planet earth have? Me sitting on he toilet, Quentin let me flush and then we can get into it’ What is the thing that drives you absolutely nuts with your kids? Any recent funny moments? #worldschooling #worldschool #worldschoolers #travelfamily #travelmum #travelmums #homeschoollife #homeschoolmom #homeschoolingmama #aroundtheworld #reisenmachtglücklich #reisenmitkindern #reisenfuerweltentdecker #weltenbummler #unschooling #unschoolinglife #unschoolingfamily #momblogger #momandme #digitalnomad #digitalnomadfamily #letthemexplore #wildschooling #wildandfreechildren #mamahood #stayathomemomlife #stayathomemoms #lifewithkids

Ok, homeschooler here, here to give all my tricks, ideas and hacks to make your days of social distancing, learning at home, v successful. Step one: stop reading things that tell you how to homeschool- the color coded routines, the check lists, the “step by step activity ideas”, all the homeschool pages you just joined on FB. Well, that’s it, there is no step two. No one can tell you how to homeschool your own kids. You have a rare and special gift during this strange time- to slow down and teach your kiddo individually and in a way that fits them best. Are they struggling readers? Read TO them. It’s ok, it’ll be your little secret. You’re the teacher and you don’t require a reading log. Writing/grammar? Ask them what they want to write about- maybe it’s about Minecraft, maybe it’s letters to friends/family. Maybe it’s report on a tourist brochure. I don’t know man, kids are weird, just go with it. Feed them when they ask- and yes, they’ll probably be dramatic and tell you “I’m staaaaarving” between every. dang. subject. Tell them to have an apple and pour yourself more coffee. Or tell them no, you know your own kid! Learn about something completely random, go all in, using your child’s strengths- may it be art or writing, speaking or creating. Memorize a poem, hymn or folk song together. It can be your anthem when this is all in the past. I don’t mean to brag but I know all the words to Camp-town Races (doodah doodah ) and I had never heard that song until I was 35 🤣 ..Cook or bake together,.. have them help a little extra around the house, maybe introduce a new chore. Or don’t and let them do their favorite chore (let me guess, windex? ) Tell them it all counts for school. Life school is always good. I’m just saying, don’t doubt yourself. **You already know what’s best for your child; you knew it before their school teacher did.** You got this! Your school days at home will look very different than your child’s classmates days at home and that’s the beauty of it all- allowing your child to lead! And when things get hairy, just send them outside. With a journal. It’s called nature journaling. And just like that, you’re a pro. 😅
