This statement took me a long time to come to terms with and accept. Once I realised that buying a larger size in clothes was just that buying a bigger size, it gave me so much freedom! I am more than my jean size. I do not fear clothe sizes anymore, it took me a lot of emotional strength to come to this realisation. With time I hope we can all feel this way. It is ok if you are not there yet, but know you are worth so much more that the size of your jeans gorgeous. #loveyourself #effyourbeautystandards #beautybeyondsize #nobodyshame #allbodiesaregoodbodies #bodypositivemovement #respectmycurves #bodypositive #bodyacceptance #healthateverysize #intuitiveeating #rejectdietculture #selflove #bodyadvocate #bodypositivity

SUPER IMPORTANT! Swipe through to read...Repost from @the_queer_counselor - Coping with food & exercise is a normal response to stress & feeling like everything is out of control. 👇🏻✨ . If you are noticing an increase in eating disorders symptoms, disordered eating, disordered exercise behaviors, body checking, body distress, body dysmorphia, and/or gender dysphoria know that what you’re feeling makes sense. This is an incredibly stressful time and many folx are being threatened with or currently experiencing food insecurity. ✨ When we are facing food insecurity or food restriction for any reason we are likely to see an increase in thinking about food, our bodies, & even movement. This is our bodies way of saying “hey! I need more food! I’m worried we don’t have enough food! Find food!”. Once we have access to food, we are likely to “feast”. This is our saying “ahhh food finally!!! I better eat a bunch of it!! As fast as possible”. This is NORMAL. ✨ Whatever you may be experiencing in relation to current events and your body, food, &/or movement, practice self compassion. You’re coping the best you can and with that comes so much wisdom. Remember - Your feelings are valid & we will get through this together! 🍓 How’s everyone doing? Found this collage while going through old treatment boxes of things I brought home with me. I remember making it at my final residential treatment center, Bella right there next to me, during one of our nutrition groups with our dietician. It’s hard to believe how long ago that was. It’s never harder to believe how far we have both come since then. The misguided thinking that food is either good or bad for us, is so pervasive that even people not caught up in diet culture tend to dichotomise food this way. . But there is no one food that is actually bad for us or that will damage our health unless of course it gives you food poisoning!! (I’m leaving allergies out of this, clearly if you have an allergy, avoid the food ) . If you don’t quite believe no food is bad, feel free to read a blog I wrote on this. https://lovewhatyoueat.com.au/food-neither-good-bad/ . If labelling food good or bad also bothers you, next time someone says a food is bad - ask “why, is it off or does it taste awful?” . I try not to use the terms good and bad when it comes to food, however when you eat something that tastes really good, it’s totally normal and ok to say “this is good!” . Equally, if something is stale or has gone “off” in some way, then calling that food bad would be ok. . What’s not ok is the moralising of food where somehow you’re a better person for choosing a food referred to as good and not making that choice, or choosing something else, means you’ve been “bad” or “naughty”. No one food will make or break your health or compromise your nutrition. . @zoe .dietitian.lovewhatyoueat @jodie .arnot.counselling . . . . #nourishnotpunish #nourishyourbody #lovewhatyoueat #moderationmovement #goodfood #badfood #nosuchthing #nomnom #healthateverysize #enjoyallfood #eatwell #intuitiveeating #foodporn

Listen up folks, ALLY is a verb. Being an ally comes with a responsibility that you will actually use your privilege in ways that don’t seek to replicate the very systems of harm and oppressions that are occurring right before your eyes. When you see something, say something. Staying silent on issues relating to weight stigma and the horrendous treatment of fat people means that you are giving permission for this sort of abhorrent behaviour to continue. . . So, instead of just lurking, liking, occasionally commenting and sharing posts from fat activists without actually ever really crediting is properly, tell your friends how harmful it is to share fatphobia memes, don’t ask fat people questions that you could easily find by doing a bit of work yourself, don’t project your shitty feelings about your body onto your fat friends, speak up when you see/hear fat people being berated simply for existing. BELIEVE us when we tell you that this is what happens to us every day. . . It’s simply not enough to agree that fat people are treated like sub-par humans. Great, you agree with us on that front. Now, what are you actively doing to change this? How are you working towards challenging the status quo? . . #feminism #fatpositive #socialjustice #eatingdisorderrecovery #healthateverysize #haes #fatactivism #intersectionality

10,000 FREE WORKOUTS AND I DID NONE THIS WEEK.😳⠀ ⠀ ⠀ This is not something I am ashamed or proud of. It's just how life is right now. Fitness has always been a huge part of my life and always will be. But I give myself permission to hit pause. You can too. ⠀ ⠀ There is no need to use bags of rice as dumbbells. No need to order ALL ZE resistance bands to make up for your gym time. Also, feel free to mute all the home workouts craze if they triggered you. ⠀ ⠀ BUUUTTT...⠀ ⠀ I know that many fitness instructors are desperate for work and still trying to make a living, hence the home workouts. I also know that fitness and food can be the only things some people have control of and they need it to keep their mental health in check.✅⠀ ⠀ If you are inspired by the sweaty post workout vibes then👏🏽. But if your idea of self soothing activities only include online shopping, Netflix or baking chocolate chip cookies? Cheers to that. 🥂⠀ ⠀ We rarely see people posting their sleep or water intake. But burpees? We are constantly bombarded by those 🥵⠀ ⠀ We are all doing our best. No judgement for whatever you choose to do during this quarantine. My wish for you today: May you hear/ recognize what your body needs and honor it.🙏🏽🙏🏽 • • • • #foodfreedomforever #intuitiveeatingofficial #intuitiveeatingjourney #dietculturedropout #nomorediets #bodypositivemovement #bodyacceptance #healthcoachjakarta #nondietapproach #haes #healthateverysize #happilyfed #nourishnotpunish #effyourbodystandards #riotsnotdiets #antidiet #ditchthediet #bodyliberation #selfloveclub

It took me a while to get to my practice today. I kept focusing on other things instead. But eventually, I softened the lights, lit some candles, burned palo santo and got down to Day 5: Home with #yogawithadriene . . I finished with my own restorative practice that mirrored some of the work I did with @angela_dawn_yoga in her restorative class yesterday. ‼️DIETING WILL NEVER PRODUCE LONG TERM RESULTS ‼️ – WHY? I’m doing a parenting course for newborns – and I learnt just how babies respond to love.👶 . . 🤱If Max is crying and I give him love – he stops – what is love? It’s care. Babies are pure – source energy – mother nature. They respond to love and care. They have to learn to love themselves as they grow in age. They have to learn proper SELF CARE. . . ✅Self care is self love. Part of self care is learning how to nourish our body – it’s showing your body you respect it and love it. . . 🥑Nourishment is NOT restriction. It’s forward moving – not cutting back. Dieting is restriction. It’s coming from a place of cutting back. This is not love. It will never work in the long term to diet ‼️ . . ❌You will never maintain your results if you act from this place and diet as you won’t feel happy because you are not showing your body the love it needs. . . ✅To truly maximise your health and reach the potential – you were born with – you need to work from a place of self love. . . ===>Do you know what this looks like? ===>Would you like to change your life? Sign up to get weekly email coaching with me (it's FREE ) where you learn the secrets (or science ) to maximise your health. Link in bio. With love, Katie ❤️ Here’s to your health potential! 😍

We can learn what our triggers are, how to prevent activation, and how to regulate our nervous systems, but we cannot outgrow them. • During a time where so many of our trauma responses are revealing themselves, this is becoming apparent. The fight, flight, freeze, or fawn that comes up as we feel too contained, isolated,or constricted is conditioned into our bodies from development. We see this being highlighted more each day that we’re in quarantine. • However, we can also use this time to truly get to know our nervous systems, how to prevent hyperarousal, and how to bring them down when they get there. Utilizing our senses, such as: guided visual meditation, mindful eating, self massage, taking a shower, or listen to music can be ways in which we regulate. • What are some ways in which you’ve gotten to know your nervous system better during this time?👇🏽 • • • #somatictherapy #nervoussystemregulation #trauma #traumarecovery #traumahealing #regulate #heal #polyvagaltheory #somaticexperiencing #therapy #mindbody #queertherapist #healthateverysize #holistichealth #traumainformed #bodyworktherapy

Challenging the thin ideal, or idealised body, in medicine is important if we are committed to improve patient experience & outcomes. . . Example: Cardiovascular risk profiles reduce when folks perceive themself, independent of body fat%, to be “about right” when thinking about their own body size. . . Perceived “normalcy”, body neutrality (and/or ) acceptance, offers protection on a physiological level. . . Healthcare practitioners are WELL positioned to support folks in seeking body affirming beliefs, and that means doing our “own” work and working with colleagues - changing the collective conversation we are having about bodies. . . . . . . . #haes #healthateverysize #sizediversity #healthcare #healthnotdiets #riotsnotdiets #antidiet #weightneutral #weightinclusive #fatpositive #nondietapproaches #bodyrespect #bodykindess #bodyposi #medicine #weightstigma #mindful #intuitiveeating #nondiet #nutrition #nutritionist #dietitian #medstudent #medschool

Dear Belly, Sorry for not always loving you. You’re pretty amazing and I don’t want you to go anywhere ❤️ Thank you for loving me when I treated you so badly. I appreciate all you do for me. You give me energy. You protect my precious internal organs. You help me make hormones so I can have periods and strong bones. Ultimately belly, you keep me alive and help me to be the person I want to be so I think you are pretty cool. You also represent all the hard work and tears I have put into my recovery and are made of some very happy memories. Not to mention you are kinda cute too! I will do my best to keep feeding and loving you- screw you diet culture! Love you always Becky xoxo xoxo

Hello. My name is Becky and I have started this instagram account in order to document my experience with gaining a better relationship with exercise, food and my body. A little bit about me.... I had anorexia nervosa when I was 17 and whilst after 4 years of treatment I so called ‘weight restored’, the eating disorder never really left: I just managed it by weighing the very precise weight I was set in treatment, having a very restrictive diet and compulsively exercising. This led to multiple issues including stress fractures and gastrointestinal related hospital admissions. I unfortunately started relapsing back into anorexia last summer and have been receiving support from an intuitive eating and health at every size aligned dietician and therapist for the past few months and I am doing super well! Whilst I know exercise can be compulsive for me, I love it so much and am now determined to develop a healthy relationship with my sports where I respect my body. I am committed to letting my body decide my weight (no matter what this may be or what diet culture has to say about it ) and for my training to be intuitive, fun and respectful of my body. So welcome and feel free to join me as I ramble about all things exercise, eating disorders, intuitive eating, body image, self acceptance, unsuppressed body weight and health at every size!

Decided to start living my Swim Team fantasy. As a dancer in high school I was always more of an “independent study” gal when it came to PE and I figured now was as good a time as any to try something new 🏊🏻‍♀️ Big ups to @speedo for their size inclusivity on a lot of their styles including this one that is both functional (when zipped up for laps ) AND sexy (when zipped down for lounging ). Unfortunately I have yet to make the cap/goggles look anything but functional so we gotta take the sexy where we can get it 😂😉. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in these trying and unprecedented times. Imagine what you will gain when you stop trying to lose weight.⁣ ⁣ When we even begin to start thinking about giving up dieting, our minds go right to the amount of weight we will gain. Just the thought of that alone can trigger some unwanted and extremely uncomfortable feelings. We can start to think worse about ourselves. More so than what we do right now. ⁣ ⁣ This is enough to stop that thought. Think this isn't for us, and want to keep dieting even if it's not working for us. ⁣ ⁣ So let's look at it from a different angle. Let me ask you this:⁣ How much of your day is spent thinking about food? The foods that you “should” and “shouldn't” eat? How many calories something has in it? How much exercise you “should” be doing? Researching the one diet that's going to actually work this time? ⁣ ⁣ Think about how many hours you think about food and body insecurities in a day.⁣ ⁣ Have you dieted so much you could classify it as a hobby or even a career?⁣ ⁣ Now, imagine what you could think about instead. Think about the things you could do? What things could you accomplish?⁣ ⁣ Think about how much joy you would have in that freedom. The freedom to wear what made you happy without worrying about what others thought. The freedom to go out to eat anywhere at a moment's notice. ⁣ ⁣ Think about moving your body in a way that you find joyful—moving it in a way that you love. Being able to skip a workout because you know it doesn't affect you. Know that you no longer need to punish yourself or "earn the right" to eat. ⁣ ⁣ And all of this is just breaking the surface. There's so much more. But think about this, these are all the things that you GAIN when you decide to stop dieting. These are all the things that weight has nothing to do with. ⁣ ⁣ What do you think you will gain when you decide to stop losing weight? ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #bodykindness #allbodiesareworthybodies #haes #iweigh #healthateverysize #mybodyismyhome #mybodymychoice #mybodystory #antidietculture #antidiet #selfcarematters #losehatenotweight #effyourbeautystandards #normalizenormalbodies #trustyourbody #allbodiesaregoodbodies #embraceyourbody #bodyacceptance

How someone chooses to spend this time does not make them morally superior or inferior to anyone. Period. This is not a competition of who can be more productive, who can work out the most, or who can “keep the weight off” during quarantine. This is a scary and anxiety-inducing time - and how you choose to spend it does not make you any better or worse than anyone else. So if you’ve been feeling like you’re not doing enough lately, please know that you are, and that there’s no need to compare yourself to anyone. What you’re doing is enough as is. ❤️ • • #healthateverysize #intuitiveeating #HAES #foodfreedom #bodykindness #morethanabody #allbodiesaregoodbodies #weightneutral #bodyacceptance #antidiet #bodyliberation #dietculturedropout #bedrecovery #disorderedeating #wellnessdiet #dietculture #disorderedeatingrecovery #disorderedeatingawareness #quarantine #covid_19

“Since I can’t go to the gym during quarantine, I’m skipping breakfast” • Better check yourself before you wreck yourself Becky 😘😘 Your body needs food for more than just exercise! • 💥 BASAL METABOLIC RATE (BMR ): the energy required to keep your body alive even at rest. This includes functions such as breathing, pumping blood, regulating body temperature, etc. 💥 THERMIC EFFECT OF FOOD (TEF ): your body’s version of “it takes money to make money”. This is the energy required to digest, metabolize, and absorb nutrients. 💥 NON-EXERCISE ACTIVITY THERMOGENESIS (NEAT ): everything that is not sleeping, digesting, or exercising. NEAT includes tasks such as typing on your computer, walking to the kitchen, and telling Netflix your STILL watching Tiger King after 5 consecutive episodes. Stuff like that. 💥 EXERCISE ACTIVITY THERMOGENESIS (EAT ): varies most from person to person and can include tasks ranging from walking the dog to running a marathon. • All of these together make up our TOTAL ENERGY EXPENDITURE (TEE ). Most of the energy we consume (~60-75% ) is put towards our BMR. Just goes to show that even on days we don’t exercise our bodies still need food to survive *drops mic 🎤*
