Brain Food 101 PART 3 ... vegetarians and vegans this one is for you. ⁠ ⁠ EPA is another omega-3 fatty acid that plays a role in protecting your cells and neurons. High levels are found in oily fish and fish oil. ⁠ ⁠ Alot of vegetarians consume plants rich in ALA (avocados, walnuts, olive oil ) to obtain adequate amounts of EPA. However the conversion of ALA to EPA is fairly low - only about 2-10%. ⁠ ⁠ So if you are eating a plant based diet, what is the best way to obtain enough EPA? Algae has readily available EPA, so consuming spirulina or chlorella is probably your best bet. ⁠ ⁠ What foods are you eating to boost your brain health? 🤓

So far it's a typical Wednesday. I have had two strategic conversations... one on taxes and the other on stepping into your power. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ The two have everything in common. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I work with entrepreneurs and clinicians, many of whom are driven by the noble pursuit of helping others. The obvious irony is that this mission is often the desire of their outer work, but there is significant resistance towards engaging in the same work for themselves. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ We want others to feel worthy, but often we refuse and sabotage worthiness for ourselves. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Frustrations with your split, taxes or bank balance is not the fault of the clinic owner or your employer or your partner. Brain Food 101⁠ ⁠ The more important your contribution, the more important the brain fuel (moms, entrepreneurs, I'm talking to you ). How often do you breathe deep into your belly? Your diaphragm is a core muscle and deep belly breathing or diaphragmatic breathing can help to strengthen your core, helping with back pain.⁠ ⁠ Breathing also brings in a lot more oxygen which we need in order to heal any injuries, whether you know about a specific injury or not ; )⁠ ⁠ It also moves you from a sympathetic state to a parasympathetic state which allows our nerves to relax. This is so helpful when you are feeling stressed as well.⁠ ⁠ You know when you are told to "just breathe" but you want to punch someone?! This is the reason why!⁠ ⁠ Also, you'll feel better. Can sugar break your brain?⁠ ⁠ When your brain cells are exposed to high amounts of sugar and blood glucose fluctuations, it can cause neuroinflammation as well as leave your neurons vulnerable to injury. ⁠ ⁠ What does this really mean? A diet high in sugar is going to spike your blood blood glucose levels which can actually be damaging to your brain. Current mood. I am standing on the edge of a ledge about to do a back flip. I do it every year and every year I feel the exact same fear. This actual photo was taken a week ago at the lake, but today I am feeling all of the same swirls of anxiety. A few weeks ago, in a moment of resounding conviction I submitted a proposal related to my vision for the future of health. Those selected would be invited to give a 5 minute talk... I wasn’t really thinking that far ahead, I just wanted to get my vision down on paper. Well low and behold, I was selected along with 15 others, to share my idea on stage @mindsharecollaborative and I am presently freaking out. We have 5 minutes, there is a buzzer and the audience picks their favourite talk. Among the field of speakers are NYT best-selling authors, subject authorities and downright badass health leaders. No joke, I am legit, standing backwards on a ledge. Last night I told myself that I didn’t have to do it, that if I wanted to, I could back out. No pressure. But that didn’t last long. I am not here for a prize, I am here to share and collaborate with a community I have come to value immensely. I am still freaking out, but this morning I am ok with the anxiety. It is a familiar reminder that I am on a journey of growth. This is one of those accelerated opportunities to feel the fear, connect to my purpose and show up on behalf of my mission. Somehow that perspective feels so much easier. For the record, I jumped off that ledge in the photo.... I didn’t die, become injured (although pic number 3 looks ominous ) or even get water up my nose 🤧 The same will be true for the other side of my talk. I know you also have things that you find scary. I promise, it is not any easier for me. I feel it all the same. Amazing things happen on the opposite side of a backflip.
