Part 2 of 3 of New Series. This series came to me when I asked myself what kind of world did I want my daughter to live in. I want her to love in a world where she doesn't think twice about the size or shape of her body to determine how good she feels about herself. Yesterday I shared that there are some beliefs that we need to either abandon or change in order to start to accept or even love our bodies more. The first one was that "the word fat is a bad word". The second: I can control the size of my body, so I am to be held responsible for how it looks. There are so many factors that determine our appearance. Like genetics, bone structure, hormones, how much stress we have in our lives etc… We have been conditioned to believe that we need to diet and exercise in order to manipulate our bodies to look the way society says it should. Nope. We are all made beautifully unique and I do not believe that there is an ideal that we all have to strive for. I think we would be a happier and healthier society if we spent more time accepting how we look instead of spending our time and energy into trying to change it. I reject that we have to shrink or tone our bodies in order to be happier or more worthy. This doesn’t mean that moving our bodies and eating food that it needs to survive isn’t important. It is our WHY behind it that does. I move my body because I love it, I want it to do the things I want it to be able to do and I want it to live as long as it can. A bit of a gentle satire from me to invite us to look at our relationship to “abs” and “core workout” as well as the crazy expectations and pressure we put on ourselves to slave away at this part of the body.” • this practice was incredibly difficult and not for the actual asana but for the mind part. i have always hated my stomach since i was ten. never tight enough, thin enough, trimmed enough. that’s why my eating disorder started and lasted for so long. i wanted a flat stomach because we learn that a non-existing belly is beautiful. well, guess what, a six pack abs or a v line is not normal, especially for women. in the belly we hold our most important organs and we can potentially create life. it’s supposed to be round and soft. (disclaimer: if you naturally have a thin figure there’s nothing wrong with that _ #nobodyshaming _ but it’s a really reeeeeaally small part of the population that has that without having some kind of disordered relationship with food or exercise ) i’m here today to say thank you body, thank you belly for being soft and so welcoming of me. you just wanted to be loved in all of your greatness and roundness and i have always tried to suck you in and made you go away. i’ll probably never have a flat stomach and i’m okay with this. it’s difficult to admit that in a world where being thin (but with the right amount of fat, if not you are either too fat or too tiny, ugh diet culture ) is a moral value. where a disordered relationship with food, movement and your body is NORMALIZED. but here i am. telling you that it’s okay to eat a lot, rest more and loving your body at your own weight and shape, especially during a collective trauma like a pandemic. i would never trade my mental clarity, the love for my body, the freedom around food and movement for a flat stomach. because my life was miserable when i had that and i’m not okay with this anymore.

🥞🥞🥞 . One thing I've learnt about Eating Disorders is you never feel like you're doing enough. You constantly feel like your starting or restarting what you consider to be "proper" recovery. . When you miss a meal, or a snack, or feel like you haven't eaten enough, you feel like you've failed and need to start recovery all over again. You forget this is a process, there will be bumps and hurdles in the road - Bad day and good days. But when you slip up, your mind automatically goes to tomorrow... tomorrow I will start proper recovery again. . Today, with the help of my therapist following her advice, I am not starting recovery. I am simply continuing my recovery but by starting to stick to a meal plan, which I hope will mean by being in control of what I eat and prepping ahead of what I will eat, will help me feel in control but also, take some pressure off and some anxiety away. Lovelies. Day 21 of „UNLEARNING BODY LIES“. Like millions of people I got hypnotized by diet culture‘s common narrative of „just eat less and move more to be healthier“. In fact, I wasted my entire adult life married to this mission, and I was in deep denial of the fact, that it never REALLY delivered what I had hoped it would: Increased health More self-confidence Contentment More self respect A sense of achievement Turns out, ignoring the body when it’s hungry, tired and begging for me to listen to its needs CANNOT WORK. Yes, I might get short term relief from my actions, like a temporary escape from feelings of fear, overwhelm, anxiety, or shame, but I just further increased the energy debt that had accumulated over the years as I further tried to outrun my shadow. Fact: An eating disorder CREATES fear, and it won’t let you see how much your body really suffers from this constant drudgery of overexertion and rigid food rules. It makes YOU the bad guy. It makes you gloss over the fact that you are miserable, isolated, exhausted, irritable, rigid, afraid, and that you feel utterly caged. It also makes you ignore the massive red flags with which the body itself is trying to let you know that THINGS ARE NOT GOOD: -Gut issues -Depleted hormones/menstrual irregularities/loss of period -Terrible sleep -Brittle hair/nails -Dry skin -Soreness/stiffness/pain/stress fractures -Loss of bone density -Bradycardia -Lowered body temperature -Decline of mental health All those things get lost to the great wrecking ball that is the eating disorder. Fear makes us susceptible to tyranny. Including the tyranny of an eating disorder. I never wanted to be anyone‘s slave, never liked following anyone’s orders, yet I fell prey to an eating disorder that silently ruled over me and had me be its bitch. All in the name of trying to do „the right thing“. I feel it‘s time to wake up from diet culture‘s seductive hypnosis and stand up for what we truly want: Freedom to be ourselves. As we are. As a therapist (and fellow human 👋🏼 ), it is not my job to know what is best for someone. It hasn’t been the easiest lesson to learn, because knowing what I do know about weight stigma & diet-culture & body image, I’ve yet to meet a weight loss journey with a side effect of magical body acceptance. Still, I firmly believe in body autonomy - and - in the same way I inform my birthing clients of their delivery options, I follow suit with mental health/eating disorders. I want you to ask yourself honestly, why you continue to shame your body and let your size define your worth. My wish for women is they stop letting the size of their bodies determine how they feel about themselves or how confident they feel when they walk into a room. A lot of the stories we tell ourselves are from our childhood and our inner voice telling us we aren't enough and will only be enough when we lose weight, start and successfully finish a diet, have the perfect relationship or when our social media followers make us feel accepted. But do you ever ask yourself, is there more to life than this. Dieting, body shaming and the pressure to be size 8 no longer serve me. I want to be remembered for how I shared my voice in this world, how I helped other women with their self belief. I want my husband to see me as the woman who gave him three beautiful children and let go of fear and my ego to save our marriage. Salmon is commonly prized for its health benefits. ∙ However… not all salmon is created equal, unfortunately. Today, a lot of the salmon we eat isn’t caught in the wild, but bred in fish farms. Half of the salmon sold worldwide comes from so-called fish farms, also known as aquacultures. Wild Salmon vs Farmed Salmon 🐟. ∙ ◆ WILD SALMON 🐟. 📍 Contains less calories and less fat than farmed. 📍Eats natural food in the wild. 📍Less pesticides and antibiotics (especially carcinogenic PCBs ). 📍No artificial colouring to make the fish more pink. 📍Rich in omega-3s. 📍higher in minerals, calcium, iron, potassium, zinc. ∙ ◆ FARMED SALMON 🐟. 📍 Higher in calories and saturated fat. 📍 Are caged in tight pens throughout their lives and are typically fed grain products and a fish-based diet. 📍Fed an unnatural processed diet of grains and soy in order to produce larger fish. 📍Contains high concentrations of PCBs (pesticides, dioxins etc ). 📍Contains artificial colouring, toxic byproducts and antibiotics. 📍More vitamin C (added to feed ), sodium, phosphorus. ✔️ BOTTOM LINE - Wild salmon contains more minerals. Flourless salted fudge cookies, Kosher, super rich, and delicious. . 🍪🍪🍪Here’s the recipe 🍪 🍪🍪 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more for topping 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 whole eggs (cold, not room temp ) 2-3 teaspoons cold water 1 cup chocolate chips (I use @enjoylifefoods due to Jaxon’s food allergies ) Pinch of cinnamon . Add sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt to a bowl and mix. Add in eggs, vanilla, and then slowly add water as you mix in a stand mixer or a hand mixer. Do not over mix just until combined. Let dough stand at room temperature for 10 minutes (not in fridge like other cookie dough ). Scoop onto cookie sheet with cookie scooped and then generously salt the top with sea salt or Himalayan pink salt (which looks pretty ). Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Makes about 24 cookies. . . One time many years ago I tried to replace powdered sugar with arrowroot starch + liquid stevia for a blog recipe + I thought I was onto some genius idea. It was a terrible idea😑 I’ve always loved to bake, but there was one point where I was so preoccupied with food and making “healthier treats” i realized I’d be eating an entire batch of the pseudo version of what I really wanted, still not fully satisfied, not seeing how #dietculture was screwing with me. . . Cheers to enjoying what you want this holiday week because food is food and sugar isn’t the devil. All foods have a place, honestly. Some for nutrients, some for joy, some for both, some for nostalgia, tradition, or making memories, and so on. Be present, there’s more to life than your next workout or worrying about how much food you enjoyed. Morality isn’t tied up in those things. There’s no “good” or “bad.” Trust me, I missed out on a lot of fun and wasted a lot of head space being anxious about it all. If you’re struggling I see you, I have faith in you, you deserve better, and my wish is that it gets better soon❤️ #foodisfood

The truth is finding your new balance in the midst of the worlds new normal may take some time. There’s nothing wrong if your exercises have lost intensity due to not having access to a gym. There’s nothing wrong if your nutrition takes a hit from income loss, availability, or even maybe you’re seeking some old comforts from your childhood. On the flip side there’s nothing wrong with continuing to move your body in an enjoyable way. There’s nothing wrong with prioritizing your water and veggies. But you do have to put in the work to make this work for you, because it’s here and this is life now. Stop allowing life to happen to you and start making life happen for you. Now is the perfect time to practice your best healthy. We all should be extra thankful for our health right now and taking the steps to be your healthiest self should never be shamed. But your health goes beyond your body. Keep your mind and heart healthy through all of this as well. And for the love of Pete stop thinking every person who engages in exercises and health(ier ) nutrition options is doing so in an attempt to shrink their bodies. FOOD IS FOOD. Are you giving yourself an especially hard time right now about what you’re eating? Feeling more guilt than usual? This is understandable. Canned food is healthy. Fresh food is healthy. Frozen food is healthy. Whatever food you have access to is healthy. It’s OK if you feel uncomfortable that you may not be able to eat what you’d like to or usually do. Or if your eating feels chaotic. You are doing your best. the best homemade Greek turkey burgers 🍔 Reasons to love them: ✅turkey is a lean protein source (~30g/burger ) ✅the two sauces (yogurt dill + hummus ) are low in saturated fat compared to a mayo/aioli and contribute small amounts of protein and fibre ✅homemade burgers are so summery and require no kitchen expertise - mix everything in a bowl and throw em on the grill homie Combine and form into patties (5-6 patties ) 1 lb. ground turkey 6 halves sun dried tomatoes, diced 1/4 medium red onion, diced 1/4 cup crumbled feta (or more heheh ) 1 tsp dried oregano 1/2 tsp minced garlic (or 1 clove ) 1/3 cup breadcrumbs 1 large egg Pinch of salt + pepper We barbecued the burgers so no exact cooking time, but you could do these in a non stick pan or in the oven - check to make sure the internal temp is 165F before eating! To top the burger: thinly sliced cucumber 🥒 and red onion 🧅 + a thick layer of hummus on one toasted bun + lots of this yogurty dill sauce on the other bun ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🥣Mix together to make the yogurt sauce: 3 tbsp plain greek yogurt Couple squirts of lemon juice 1/4 tsp minced garlic 1/2 tsp dried dill Enjoy my quarantinis

Do you stress out that your plate must have less food than others?⠀ .⠀ As I sat down to a pancake breakfast on Sunday 🥞🍯, I realized I was eating the same serving Zack had. I could have stressed over what I needed, comparing and judging myself, but instead I tapped into the wisdom I’ve gained on my food freedom journey. I remembered I love pancakes, I wanted to be satisfied instead of hungry, and we all have different needs at different times ‼️ Zack’s a snacker and I prefer several large meals.⠀ .⠀ So this is a reminder that #dietculture makes it seem like we, as women 🙆🏼♀️, need to eat less just because we are female. That we should eat less than our partners because that’s appropriate at all meals and lady like.⠀ .⠀ But it’s not. And you can eat exactly what your partner is eating (or even more 🙋🏼♀️ ) to satisfy you 🖤⠀ #foodfreedom ⠀
