🌏 New on the blog! Our Slow + Steady Debt Free Journey: I mentioned a week or so ago that we are just a few months away from being completely DEBT FREE! I know we’re not the only ones walking through this. I thought perhaps hearing about our story would be an encouragement to others in the same situation! • Our priorities have always been spending time with each other, spending time with our children, and being able to travel and see the world. This is not a “we paid off $250k in 8 months” story. There are many stories online like that and they can be very discouraging. A lot of those just don’t seem attainable at all to the average family finding themselves drowning in debt. We are so close and it’s gonna feel great! 🎉🙌🏼 • Are you on a debt free journey? Let’s encourage each other to get to the finish line! 🤜🏼🤛🏼 LINK IN PROFILE! • #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #debtfree #budgeting #largefamilylife #sahm #youneedabudget #ynab @youneedabudget

🚗Car Insurance🚗 . Received an email from current provider this morning with automatic renewal info for insurance. One reminder I’m closer to my birthday 🙈 I passed my driving test on my birthday and got first car the same day. So handy for remembering that date each year haha. . The current provider was actually quoting me less than year previous. I was surprised it’s normally always higher so while that’s good definitely meant I could no doubt find a better deal out there. . I did, wasn’t able to as would love to pay year upfront. But I’ve made this monthly saving so I’m chuffed to say the least. . #budgeting #ukbudgeting #budgetinguk #financial freedom #finances #budget #budgetplanning #budgetlife #budgetmum #budgetshopping #debtfreecommunity #sinkingfunds #debtfreejourney #budgetplanner #budgetfriendly #budgetjourney #livingonabudget #debtfreecommunityuk

Sliding into the weekend! My two year old shows the joy everyday. That’s my goal. To love everyday and not live for the weekend. Updated my vision and goals today. One of my ongoing goals is to be debt free by the end of 2021. I know that this is something we as a family can do. It will continue to take dedication and effort. But when a goal means something to you the sacrifice is minimal. Small sacrifices now, big rewards later! If you have not written your goals down, or made a vision board. Go for it! Creating and updating a vision board, even if it is a post it note leads to progression. It allows reflection of where you have been and where you want to go. I have financial goals, health goals, career goals, and family goals. What is a goal you have? #goalgetter #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #visionboard #healthylifestyle #postpartumjourney #familyoffive #girlmom #studentloandebt #debtfree2021 #budget #everydollar #daveramseybabysteps #daveramsey #familynursepractitioner #doctorateofnursingpractice

After several attempts to get the AC tech out here. Thanks Hanna. He finally got my yearly maintenance done. If you have been following me awhile you know that last year I drained my FFEF in order to replace the 16 year old AC I had. I also vowed to keep the new unit maintained in order to extend it's life. Since its so new I opted out of the "membership" and for the first 5 years will only pay for the service. This year I am taking this out of my Escrow savings but I have already put it on the list for my sinking funds for 2021. #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #singledebtfreejourney #homeownership

I set a big goal for August. I then doubted myself. Then I stopped and thought about how we are only 7 days into the month, and I am already preparing myself to fail. How terrible! I have no clue what my side hustle will bring in this month. I have no clue how doing a no spend month will improve my budget. But I do know that if I miss my monthly goal by a hair, it wont be the end of the world. We can all use a little grace. Our current debt total. I try to not overwhelm myself because we have come a long way. - Still somewhat unknown is the grand total of all the medical bills from having our precious son and his surgery - We did do a couple things that off put paying this down like reducing payments while I am on my leave (I go back to work 9/14 ) we also refinanced our house and went from a 30yr to a 20yr increasing our payments $100 a month and costing $2,000. I’m excited to get back to work and start crushing more of this debt! #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals

There seems to be a theme with my last 3 posts think 🤔. All about credit card companies. This time we’re looking at the Top 5 companies by number of transactions. And surprise, surprise. Look who ended up on top again 👀. Our good friend Visa! This is worldwide transactions (in billions ) in 2018. Just edging out MasterCard is a company called UnionPay. It’s a credit card provider for China 🇨🇳. Another new one to the list is JCB, which is the Japanese Credit Bureau, Japan’s credit card provider 🇯🇵. Again, these stats aren’t an indicator for whether a company is good to invest in. You’ll need to do your own research to determine if any of them are a good fit for you. ⁣ —————————————————- If you found this helpful, please: 👉🏼 Drop a ❤️ . 👥 Tag a friend 👨🏻‍💻 Save for later 👉🏼 Follow @firewithafamily 💰 Referral in bio for EQ Bank, get $20 —————————————————- #FIREwithafamily #personalfinance #financeblogger #ficommunity #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #debtfreelife #stockmarketinvestor #investmentportfolio #smartinvestor #stockmarketstrategies #stockmarketforbeginners #stockmarketlearning #stockmarketbasics #beginnerinvestor #stockmarketeducation #stockmarkets #stockmarketinvesting #investingmindset #financetips #financialtips #valueinvesting #financialfreedom #investinginstocks #investingtips #visa #mastercard #americanexpress #creditcards

Week one went well!! Changed gears as I've been looking into lowering our monthly bills!! Decided to work on paying off our cell phones to decrease the monthly cell bill and we had enough to pay the balance on my husbands phone!! Mine is alittle more so I will probably set some $ aside and build up the $$ to pay it off. I want our outgoing bills to be as low as possible so we can send more to debt and be less stressed if something was to happen!! Changed some things on our internet bill so that should decrease it a good amount!! Sent $70.66 to Nelnet S-C!! With what we sent the last two weeks of July we are down to owing $1,285.46 on it!! Some other wins - Got tires on my car for less then expected!! (money from car sinking fund ) Completely cash flowed our mini vacation!! Spent more then we wanted, but glad we had enough to cover the overage!! What wins did you have last week?! #dfc #debtfree #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #debtfreeRN #debtfreemillennials #debtfreefam #debtfreefamily #debtfreefuture #debtfreeinprogress #studentloanssuck #studentdebt #debtsnowballpayments #debtsnowballmethod #financialfreedom #financialgoals #bills #budget #augustbudget

Better late than never! For the month of July, I save over $2000. That total includes saving every $5 bill I come across when using the money from my cash envelopes, sinking funds for Black Friday, Puppy, Travel, and Car MX, House MX, and of course my emergency fund. Have you started tracking your spending? How much of your income did you save last month? According to a survey conducted by @gobankingrates , 69% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings. Want to hear some of their other findings? 💜45% of their respondents have $0 in savings. 💜51% of women have $0 in their savings versus 38% of men who have nothing saved. 💜It's time to break that paycheck to paycheck cycle y'all! Open a high interest savings account today (I use @ally ) and automate your savings. Get paid twice a month? That's 24 times a year. 💜$5×24=$120/year 💜$10×24=$240/year 💜$20×24=$480/year 💜$50×24=$1,200/year Start small and build those savings habits! Calculated the old net worth today. Increasing my net worth by over $42,000 dollars in 27 months? Not too shabby honestly. My overall net worth is still negative (thanks student loans ), but I'll be darned if I'm not making progress! A few tips that helped me get here, that might help you out too:💜Start an emergency fund. I recommend a minimum of $1,000 but I'm currently bulking mine up to $10,000 due to the pandemic. Store it in a high interest savings account. I use @ally 💜Invest in retirement, esp. if your company has some type of 401k plan where they match your $$$$. At least set yourself up to get the match from them. You can also start an IRA account or something similar. I am an extremely conservative investor (don't play the stock market at all! ) and I'm not an expert when it comes to investing, I just kind of do what my grandpa tells me too do. 😅In other words, do your own research too! Just start investing. Trust. 💜Say no. Or as I like to call it, "prioritizing". You don't need to go on every single trip or buy every single new gadget that comes out! Heck, you don't even need to go to every happy hour you're invited too. We are thinking long 👏 term 👏 here people! Do the stuff that you really, really want to do. Budget and pay cash for what's really important to you. 💜Don't use credit cards if you can't pay the balance in full every month. Seriously, credit cards will get you in a load of trouble if you don't have the means to pay them off immediately!💜Destroy debt. Yup. I mean, this goes without saying but less debt=higher net worth. Anyway, that's all folks! Someday soon my net worth will be positive and what a day full of 🍾 that will be! Until then, a $42k increase is fine with me. #thepennypioneer #networth #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #crushdebt

By now, many of us should have recieved a stimulus check! There are SO many things you could choose to do with this $$$$ and every situation is different. My heart truly hurts thinking about folks who are out of work right now, because I know that in this day and age, $1,200 doesn't go very far. All that to say, here are 5 quick ideas for what you can do with your stimulus check! What are you planning to do (or what did you already do ) with yours? ✔ If you're out of work, use it to pay bills, cover rent, buy groceries. Keep your basics covered. ✔ Put it in your emergency fund. This is what I did with mine. I keep my emergency fund in a high interest savings account and you should too! I use @ally bank.✔ Donate it! My grandpa donated his entire stimulus check to a food pantry. I'm not in the position to do that, but I do make a monthly donation to a local non-profit. Giving should be a part of your budget and honestly I just wanted to brag about my grandpa because he is actual #goals ✔Put it towards debt! I'm not paying off extra debt at the moment by choice, but you can always throw your stimulus money at your debt, if you have at least a small emergency fund in place first. It feels so good to pay things off!✔ Support the local economy! I've been ordering takeout from my favorite places (shoutout to my local Indian buffet😂 ) and tipping well. Support your favorites so they can weather this storm! ✔Whatever you want! Guys, we're in the middle of an unprecedented global pandemic. I'm not advocating for financial recklessness in this particular situation, but I am advocating for personal choice. What you do with your stimulus check is ultimately your decision. Be well and stay safe and healthy out there! #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #crushdebt #stimuluscheck #stayhome

ATTENTION EVERYONE! Over the course of 2019, I spent $1,462.10 LESS on food than I did in 2018. Yup, you read that right. First of all, can everyone applaud? Second of all, let's talk about food (my favorite thing ). Aside from housing expenses and possibly monthly student loan payments, food expenses are often the biggest budget busters. Food costs add up easily, especially if you eat out often! Here are some tips about how to cut back on your monthly food expenses. I'm planning on cutting back even more this year! 🍔Track your food spending. I usually do this in @youneedabudget , but this year I'm tracking all of my spending using google sheets on my phone. My phone is always with me, so I don't have an excuse not to track my spending. Manually tracking expenses is great for an added level of accountability! 🍟I cancelled my Costco membership. It's really not necessary for one person. I spent way too much on crappy food there! 🍕I didn't stop eating out. I just did it less mindlessly! Sometimes I used cash back apps to earn giftcards for Starbucks and the like. 🍩I did meal prep and a few no spend months. Seriously, no spend months are the best thing ever. How do you save money on food? Let me know so I can make this number even bigger in 2020! #thepennypioneer #foodbudget #spendlesslivemore #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #intentionalliving

While we were saving to pay cash for my new car...⁣ ⁣ it seemed like EVERYONE we knew was getting new cars. (It’s easy to notice all of the people who already have what you’re working so hard for. )⁣ ⁣ we said no to a lot of things in order to save more - vacations, home updates, little things.⁣ ⁣ my car was by far the oldest in the preschool pick-up line.⁣ ⁣ the stereo system broke so I just had to turn my phone as loud as it could go and listen that way.⁣ ⁣ we maintained my old car with oil changes and other routine upkeep to increase the chances it would keep going until we had enough saved.⁣ ⁣ we got impatient and considered a 50% down payment. But we decided to stay the course.⁣ ⁣ there were a few times we thought my old car would die but miraculously it didn’t.⁣ ⁣ It was worth the wait.⁣ ⁣ Walking into a dealership and writing a check for the car we had researched and hand picked? Never having a car payment again? ⁣ ⁣ Totally worth it. And if we can do it, you can do it too! ⁣ ⁣ #debtfreecommunity

I wasn’t going to post but Bae insisted. Today is an amazing day because it’s the day I broke up with #navient and made my last student loan payment! I am officially #studentloandebtfree 🙌🏽 it has been a long journey and I never thought I’d actually get here! I managed to pay off $20,800 of student loans in 4 years!! I was on the 10 year payoff plan but I knew I didn’t want to carry this debt with me for a decade. It wasn’t always fun making large payments towards paying off debt when I could have instead used that money to travel or buy new clothes, but I’m glad I did it! Here’s to making wise money choices now so you can enjoy #financialindependence later! 😃👍🏽 . . . . #financialfreedom #debtfreegoals #debtfreejourney #nomorestudentloans #byebyedebt #blackmothers #blackmotherhood #millenialmoney #daveramsey #stephengraham #blackwomeninsales #blackmoney #michiganblogger #financialliteracy #lansingblogger #blackfinancialadvisor #blackfinancialliteracy

Here are 8 frugal habits that have helped me to save money. Do you have other suggestions? 👉Excuse any spelling mistakes, I'm Swedish👈 1️⃣ MEAL PLAN: Food is one of my familys biggest expenses. Meal planning keep us from making impulse purchases when we grocery shop. Planning what we are going to eat and when, and making food at home prevent us from getting take out as often. We cook at home as often as possible. 2️⃣ WANTS VS NEEDS: When I want to buy something or when I look at my expences I ask myself if it's a want or a need. If an item is a non-essential it can be cut from our budget until our debt is paid off. Don't buy stuff because you want to impress people. Don't keep up with the Joneses, they are broke! 3️⃣ BIKE MORE: Transportation is one of our biggest expenses. I try to take my bike to work more often. It's a simple way to save money by not having to pay for gas and having less repairs on my car. 4️⃣ DECLUTTER AND SELL THINGS I DON’T NEED: I declutter on a regular basis. When I find stuff that I don’t really need anymore I sell it to make money. 5️⃣ NO SPEND DAYS: I challange myself to have as many No Spend Days per month as possible. I count a No Spend Day as a day when I don't spend money on anything, and instead use what I already have paid for and have at home 6️⃣ KEEP A LIST OF FREE ACTIVITIES: I look up free things to do in our area and keep a list on my phone. This way I have an idea of what we can do instead of spending money. 7️⃣ USE THE LIBRARY: I love my library! I usually only read books once so I don't feel I have to own them. If my library doesn’t have the book I want to read I contact them and there is usually no problem for them to add the book to their collection. 8️⃣ COMPARE PRICES: Comparing prices is extra important when buying something expensive. This way you make sure that you’re getting the absolute best deal when you want to buy something.

Living intentional matters. When we're too busy trying to do all the things, have all things, and be all things we end up filling our life with things - tangible and intangible. We end up crazy, stressed out, and just not knowing how to balance it all. But here's what I've found. In life we have to have give and take. For us 7 years ago when we realized that we were quickly going broke, we were faced with a choice. I could go back to work in the corporate world to earn more money to keep us afloat while our kids go to daycare and I bear the burden of juggling it all including Atlanta traffic. My husband was working a job at the time that had him working crazy hours - some weeks he was working graveyard shift and others he was out of the state for months on in. The point is I couldn't consistently rely on him being able to help me. The reality is this crazy exhausting life was not what we wanted. This realization pushed us towards becoming debt-free. We didn't want that life so we started intentionally living towards the life we wanted. And that my friends is what I want to encourage you to do - to be intentional today about the life you want to live and what you can do or give up to make room in your life for what you truly want. . . . . #reallifeonabudget #debtfreecommunity #livedebtfree #livingthatbudgetlife #megamotherhood #mortgagefree #lifeafterdebt #catholicmom #momboss #debtfreemom #homeschool #dfc #dfj #debtfreeliving #debtfree #woodstockga #debtfreejourney #intentionalliving

The number of bank accounts you have should be based on what works best for you. The whole idea of having multiple bank accounts is to keep your finances organized as you work on achieving your goals. SINKING FUNDS My favorite part of budgeting 😍 Sinking funds are specific items/events you are saving for. I want a little over $1,500 for Christmas so I put $70/pay check in my Christmas envelope. I forgot to include Car Maintenace but now that my car is paid off I put $50/pay check back for that. Having sinkings funds really does allow you to prepare for anything! What are some of your savings categories?
