With nearly 30,000 dead in Brazil and more than 10,000 dead in Mexico, the novel coronavirus epidemic threatens to shatter hospital systems across Latin America — while France, which is emerging from a similar nightmare scenario, begins a gradual return to normalcy. On the other hand, DR Congo has reported a fresh Ebola outbreak in its northwest, the latest health emergency for a country already fighting an epidemic of the deadly fever in the east as well as a surging number of coronavirus infections. The 11th Ebola outbreak in the vast central African country's history comes just weeks before it had hoped to declare the end of the 10th in the east. #DawnToday

Heading a five-judge SC bench, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked at a hearing why the courtroom was jam-packed. “What happened to the formula of social distancing? Who are you and why are you sitting here,” he asked while pointing at the lawyers, media persons and litigants/public present in the courtroom. “I don’t want something to happen in this court. You should care about the social distancing and take precautionary measures,” the CJP remarked. All the judges were wearing masks as per the latest SOPs given by the government as part of the precautionary measures against the Covid-19 pandemic. The chief justice showed his concern over the violation of the social distancing on a day when the World Health Organisation (WHO ) released its report, confirming that the impact of Covid-19 is global but low-income countries are the most affected. #DawnToday

The Punjab government has yet to follow the recommendations of the health authorities to apply a 30-day complete lockdown two weeks after being presented with a disturbing picture of Lahore resulting from local transmission of coronavirus. A sample survey was carried out in most of the localities, and based on the percentage of people who tested positive, it was estimated that around 670,000 people in Lahore may have contracted the virus. Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary retired Capt Mohammad Usman had moved the summary to Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on May 15, reporting the estimated number of 670,000 asymptomatic patients that could not be reported to the health facilities, but became main source of infections and local transmission of the Covid-19. “No workplace and residential area of any town is free and, as such, entire Lahore exhibits an alarming similar transmission pattern,” reveals the summary sent to the Punjab government for consideration by the chief minister. #DawnToday

I had my life fully planned out for the upcoming year but as the pandemic shook the world to the core, like every one else, I experienced my fair share of covid19 blues! While grappling with all the stress and anxiety, one thing that I found the most relaxing was being close to nature.. When I lie on the grass, all the stress seeps down into the soil.. The chirping of crickets, the whistling of nightingales and the cawing of crows turns into a melody which soothes my mind and heart and I start to let go. I let go of the fears.. I let go of the anger.. I let go of the anxiety.. I sometimes stare at the sun cracking its way through the clouds.. struggling to show off its light.. trying to get past the deep and dark clouds.. Then I think to myself, "Aren't we all like the sun?" Struggling to get past the difficulties and barriers and trying to become the best version of ourselves? Immersed in my thoughts, I realized that being close to nature helps me adjust to the new normal! #HumansUnderLockdown #DawnDotCom #DawnToday @dawn_dot_com

They rode on and the sun in the east flushed pale streaks of light and then a deeper run of color like blood seeping up in sudden reaches flaring planewise and where the earth drained up into the sky at the edge of creation the top of the sun rose out of nothing like the head of a great red phallus until it cleared the unseen rim and sat squat and pulsing and malevolent behind them. All my life, travelling in summers has been as normal as the rising and setting of the sun. Be it a shopping trip to Dubai or a relaxing trip to the Northern areas, I used to work hard all year to finally satisfy my wanderlust during summers. However, this year, with half of the world in lockdown, I know I wont be able to explore a new place or shop till I drop at Sephora's stores around the world so I have decided to find joys in the little things of life like exploring the garden of my house and reading books about the places that I had to visit this year. This makes me realize that the sages were right, "if you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need!" . . . . . #HumansUnderLockdown #DawnDotCom #findingjoyinthelittlethings #desigirlwanders #adjustingtothenewnormal #newnormal #desigirlwanders #traveler #travellersofpakistan #travelgirl #travelgram #potd #beautifulpakistan #photographersofinstagram #snapseedpakistan #haseen_pk #travelphotography #travelphotographer #photooftheday #travelgirlsofficial #wonderfulpakistan #travelgirlspakistan #natureofpakistan #mountains #wu_pakistan #incrediblepakistan #travelpeacefulpakistan #destinationpakistan #travelbeautifulpakistan #dawntoday @dawn_dot_com @dawn .today
