There is nothing wrong with objectively assessing your own performance good or bad. Too often though I think we only pay attention when we assess that we made a mistake or didn’t live up to our own lofty expectations. We should also be assessing our wins--things we've succeeded at, good ideas we've had, goals we meet, etc. 🥇

There’s a common misconception that you have to have previous fitness experience to even try CrossFit, but that's not true! You don’t have to be in shape, lose a few pounds, or put on some muscle before starting—just like you don’t have to have a college degree to go to college.💪🏻

CrossFit studios are called boxes because they are more of a raw space than a gym organized by machine. You'll find weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, benches and racks, but no treadmills or ellipticals. Boxes are also devoid of mirrors, so you focus more on working out and less on how you look while you're doing it 💪

Know exactly what you're eating! Something that looks good and healthy, may not always actually be healthy...but it's probably still good. Like those fancy salads with cranberry dressing and Gorgonzola cheese. If you aren’t sure, ask, or do your research before you eat out.

A few tips for CrossFit beginners: 1. Check your ego at the door—as soon as the workout starts, no one will even know anyone else is in the room. We’re all pushing through this together. 2. Start slow. Learn the movements, master the techniques, then worry about weight and speed. 3. There’s no magic number of visits per week. Everyone is different but 3-5 times a week seems to work for most. 4. More is not better; better is better. The WODS are designed to be the effective minimum dose. Doubling the dosage will not multiply the results. 5. Take back off or recovery days. Your body will thank you. You tear your muscles down in the gym and then you heal and get stronger during recovery.
