I love being a part of this process. (Image from 3 years ago )-(goodness gracious these kids graduate from college this year!!🤓 ) I got into the college admissions industry because I know how extensive the process is, and how important it is to have proper guidance. I hated how my own counselors wrote parts of my essay for me. I noticed that parts of my high school extracurriculars list were a bit short. I wanted to make sure my students received admissions from the schools that they were deserving of- but it's a result of taking the appropriate amount of time to do things. Getting started over summer- that's the key to #PlanOrganizeCollege . We don't do anything magical, we simply guide your application and allow you peace of mind during the process. We're here to help! Contact us for your first consultation- we'd love to get you the starting documents! Summer's coming to an end sooner than you know- so let's get started! #PlanOrganizeCollege #collegeapplication #collegeapphelp #ucapps #Commonappessay #commonapplication #collegeapps #exctutoringsd #exclusivetutoringsd @exclusivetutoringsd @e_p_roo

After years of experience in this industry, I don't believe that your writing will go to waste. They won't change things so much that it all goes it the window. Message us. We've got a packet and an hour reserved for the students that need it. Limited availability and first come first serve. Message " #PlanOrganizeCollege " to us, or 8586688248 We will set you up with a complimentary consultation packet, and schedule a 1-on-1 video session to chat about steps to take. “How can I make my essay flow better?” is a question students ask me all the time. I usually begin by replying, “Revisit your transition words!” Because your College Essay should sound more like a personal story than a traditional 5-paragraph essay, you want to choose natural transition words that match the overall tone of your story. Conversely, you want to avoid transition words that sound super stiff or heavy-handed— like my own transition word “conversely.” While “conversely” certainly belongs in a blog post where I’m providing a formal writing lesson, it might not be the best fit for your College Essay! The other BIG no-no’s are listed transitions like “first, second, finally”—talk about heavy-handed!! (Also, side note: listed transitions are great to use in an actual list or when we’re just starting out as writers. But in your College Essay, you want to strive for transitions that are a step-above. ) To learn more about creating “flow” in your essay, and for a more complete list of transition words you can use, be sure to read my latest blog post up on our website: https://www.collegeessayfriend.com/blog/ And if you have a transition you’re not sure about, ask me about it in the comments 👇 #WritingTipWednesday #WednesdayWisdom #collegeessayhelp #CollegeEssay #collegeapplications #CommonAppEssay #CollegeAdmissions

The Common App goes live today! And you know what that means: time to start writing your Common App College Essay! But before you begin, 3 quick pieces of writing advice: 1. Don’t automatically choose the Common App Essay Prompt that seems “easiest.” Like Prompt 1 (about your background, identity, interest, or talent ), or Prompt 2 (about an obstacle you’ve faced ). While reviewing student essays every year, I try to keep track of how many students pick these prompts and every year I fail because there are just too many to count!!! Of course, I understand why these questions are so popular: they seem like the easiest to drum up ideas for. But just because something seems easy doesn’t mean it’ll translate into a vibrant and original essay. In fact, usually the opposite occurs. Which brings us to… 2. Give less popular Essay Prompts a chance. Try Prompt 3 (about a time you questioned a belief ), Prompt 4 (about a problem you’d like to solve ), or Prompt 6 (about a subject that captivates you ). These lovely little prompts get very little love from student writers, which is crazy. They are SUCH fertile questions that often inspire fresh, authentic personal statements. Don’t commit to an “easier” prompt without first exploring these! 3. Save your pandemic reflections for the “Additional Information” section of the Common App. Colleges DON’T want you to write your main essay about the pandemic. They’re expecting THOUSANDS of students will also select this topic, making it really, REALLY hard to stand out. However, the Common App IS offering a special, optional question for this topic. So, if you’ve lived through an important COVID-19 experience, write about it there. You can learn more about this optional question at https://www.commonapp.org/blog/COVID-19-question-common-app. For more Common App Essay advice, check out my 7 video lessons breaking down what each of the 7 Common App prompts are REALLY asking. I also suggest unique topic ideas and point out common mistakes you DON’T want to make. (You can easily find these videos by going to my IGTV. They’re called Brainstorming Challenge Day 1-7 ). Good luck, friends! #CommonApp #CollegeEssay #CommonAppEssay

5 Signs You’ve Found Your College Essay Topic 1. You have a clear story to tell. The best essays tell their readers one clear story in vivid detail. 2. Your story invites self-reflection. This mean you’re not just telling a story for the heck of it. Instead, your story intentionally builds to a moment of deep reflection where you discuss why this story matters so much to you. 3. Your topic has creative potential. Like an actual story, yours should inspire the use of creative style choices that help your experiences and personality come alive on the page. 4. You have lots to say. Before you start, you should have lots of thoughts you’re interested in exploring, even if you don’t know the order or structure of those thoughts yet. On the other hand, if you’re just staring at a blank page, with every sentence feeling like pulling teeth…that’s probably a clue you HAVEN’T found your best topic yet! Keep digging. 5. You feel excited. If your idea makes you even the teensiest bit excited or proud; or quickens the beat of your heart; or even makes you want to shout, “Eureka, I’ve got it!” then chances are pretty darn good you’ve found yourself a winner. ****************************************************** So, what do you think? Does your topic meet these 5 signs or do you need to go back to the drawing board? (And hey—no shame or judgment here. MOST writers I work with have to ditch their first ideas and actually end up with a better idea and essay because of it. ) If you want more brainstorming advice like this, check out our Brainstorming Resources page (bit.ly/CEFBrainstorm ) and tune in next Wednesday for another edition of #WritingTipWednesday . CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020 and this gent @caden .fio! Y’all are survivors and thrivers through some unanticipated times. Remember all the awesome things - the exciting Friday night football and basketball games, golf meets, trips, school dances, parties, where you ate and sat with friends, and even the less-than-cool graduation cruise. At least we had the best DJ ever (you! ), tons of support, cheer, and candid laughter. That cap and gown you wore means so much more than a lil 45 min. car ride. It stands for your persistence, writing 1,000+ flashcards every year, organization, hilarious study sessions, passing tests, creating Spanish video projects, memorizing endless history facts, writing college admission essays, editing, more editing, and hope.
