Hi friends! 👋🏻 Well... it's been awhile since I've introduced myself. Not to mention... the world has completely changed (and in some ways, so have I )! So I feel the need to start a-new. But I've been spending COVID-19 indoors and I miss people! Even though we've been inside as a family, we've realized we've been in our own worlds figuring out this new normal... #ForReal . 👉🏻 The thing I miss most about the real world is going to church to worship together. I love gathering together as a body of believers worshiping. I'm aware of just how much I need that energy in my life. The music, the message, being a door holder, I miss it so much... 👉🏻 I need strength training and cardio! 😂 I consider myself someone who is disciplined and will choose to do cardio. But I have realized how much I have fallen in love with strength training. On Wednesday, I felt my quad muscle pull when warming up and I was so sad! Kinda crazy since I literally used to think I *needed* cardio only but I have fallen in love with strength training and miss it so much. #TheStoriesWeTellOurselves What has COVID-19 taught you about yourself?

Question: do you drive the same way no matter what traffic signal you see? Do you keep going full speed ahead whether the light is green or red? Do you take the same action whether it’s a stop sign or a merge? Would you just keep repeating the same action over and over no matter what signal you’re presented with? Of course not. So why do you keep trying to do it with your health habits? The body is always giving us signals. Sometimes those signals are giving us the thumbs up to go full speed ahead (we feel energized, balanced, stable hunger, mood, sleeping like a boss, etc. ). That might be a great time to push it in your workouts, play with dialling in your nutrition, or dabble with more advanced protocols if that’s your jam. There will be other times those signals are warning us to slow down (not recovering from workouts as quickly, moodier, more erratic cravings and appetite ). This would be a time to dial back and adjust. Maybe just chill for a bit on the health goals and focus on something else. Loosen the reins. There will be times where the body signals a need for a full stop (exhausted, overwhelmed, grumpy AF, wanting to mainline carbs like it’s your full time job ). It could be from external stressors out of your control (oh hi there, pandemic! ), or it could be from stressors you’re creating (pushing workouts too hard, restricting too much, or eating in a way that simply isn’t working for your body ), but whatever the cause, the body would very much like a break, please and thanks. This is a time to rest whenever possible. Make adjustments to your nutrition that feel supportive, whether that means just dropping it all and letting yourself be, or actually needing to dial in with some tailored adjustments - a professional🙋🏻‍♀️ can help you with this. What works for you today may not work for you tomorrow. What worked for you two years ago may not work for you now. Let go of your own ego around what you think you “should” be doing for your health and start listening to the signals your body is sending instead. Stop hitting the gas no matter what colour the light is. Your body will thank you❤️

For anyone who’s experiencing an increase in negative self-talk & critical thoughts about your body these last few weeks - I see you, and what you’re experiencing is totally understandable.⁣ ⁣ The human survival brain has evolved to depend on certainty, because where there’s certainty, there’s safety. You wouldn’t want to enter that dark scary cave you’ve never been in before for fear of what may be waiting for you inside, right? Our ancestors sought out certainty as a means of protection, and we continue to do the same now. ⁣ ⁣ In times of heightened uncertainty, like right now, our brains scramble to cling to familiarity, to what we know. And as awful as it may feel, if you’ve struggled with a negative body image for a long time, your brain would rather cycle through those thoughts than deal with the discomfort of facing the immense unknowns of our future. We choose the suffering that we are familiar with, over the suffering of uncertainty.⁣ ⁣ I beg you to notice this pattern, so that you can have compassion for yourself. Create a separation in your mind between you & the negative self-talk. Remind yourself that just because the thoughts are there, doesn’t mean they’re true. Even though it may be really hard to understand, these critical body thoughts are still a way in which your brain is trying to protect you. It’s doing what it thinks is best for you.⁣ ⁣ Notice the thoughts, create the separation, and breathe into it. Send your heart, your mind & your body some love. I see you, and you are so, so, strong ❤️

We are constantly getting messages to change aspects of our selves to fit into the idealized perception of perfection. Why do we do this? ✨Unpopular Opinion✨ I don’t actually hate being locked in my house yet BUT I miss the gym. I miss my gym friends. I miss the treadmill. I miss kickboxing. I miss all the weight options. And I R E A L L Y miss the way my body feels after a good workout. When you’re not moving like you normally are it’s super easy to get overwhelmed about everything with food, exercise, and your body. ✨Stress about losing gains. ✨Worrying about overeating. ✨Anxiety about gaining weight. . With all of that it’s super easy to let the monsters in your brain sit there and pick your body apart till you’re miserable and want to cry. Or, you know, actually crying. Here are two things I give my 1:1 clients to shut up their brain monsters. 1. Give the voices in your head a name and imagine they had the same voice as someone you hate or really annoys you. It makes it easier to tell them they’re wrong and to SHUT UP. 2. When you find yourself starting to pick your body apart, consciously stop. And give yourself a MINIMUM of three compliments. . You’ve gotta live in your body, forever. Picking it apart and hating it and making yourself miserable isn’t doing you any favors. ESP when you are literally locked inside without many distractions. Body image work is never done, because we live in a culture that is constantly sending us messages alluding to a mold our bodies need to fit into: an “ideal” weight, a flat tummy, lean arms. Being positive about your body does not mean you’re going to love it or feel good about it every day. Rather, it is how you respond to these thoughts that can make all the difference in the relationship you have with your body. Cultivating acceptance and practicing compassion and kindness towards yourself are major components of a positive body image. If these thoughts aren’t meant to disappear, at least you have the tools to manage them. To me, that’s resilience. To me, that’s self-care. My body has changed a lot in the past year. Part One. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last year was a year of enormous growth for me. I managed to stop “punishing” my body with food. Previously, I would go for long stretches of time without eating any fruits or veggies - to punish my body for looking the way it did. So weird right? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last year I made a commitment to myself to look after my body the best way I know how. Through healthy, intuitive eating - and NO eliminating foods that were deemed unhealthy. I started to eat balanced meals with a variety of different foods in my “diet” (noun ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I also fell in love with exercise for my physical and mental strength. 🙌🏼 Hands up for eating simply! . I made a big batch of chili last week. It contained lots of veggies, beans, and ground beef. It is a very hearty meal. . However, this chili didn’t have much starch in it (only some from the beans ). So I added a piece of bread with butter on the side. Now it’s balanced. . Eating healthy is this simple! You can eat what you want and follow one rule - have all 3 food groups at each meal. Simple. . What meals have you been batch making? Preheat oven to 375*F. 2. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. 3. Mix all wet ingredients in a small bowl. 4. Fold wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until combined evenly. 5. GOOD morning💙✨enjoying my choccy banana overnight proats after getting in some movement and fresh air✨ . we made it through another week! it’s interesting to see other people’s reactions on social media...i’ve seen a ton of passive aggressive posts targeted against people posting their workouts and activity suggestions. i understand that most of us are in survival mode right now, which can make us feel more easily threatened and ready to attack🦁but i think it’s important to realize that we are all just coping the best that we can right now💙 . for some, exercising and eating healthy is what keeps them feeling in control. for others, coping could look like resting or losing themselves in a movie or book📖 others might be having a difficult time just getting out of bed! . whatever you need to do to cope is entirely in your control and shouldn’t be threatened by other people’s posts. when feeling overwhelmed, it’s always good to sign off from social media for a while💙 and to try to do the complete opposite by practicing more compassion for ourselves and for others💙 . what’s helped me the most has been trying to maintain as much of a routine as possible, especially having my loaded bowls in the mornings🥣❤️ i allow myself to feel all the feelings when i need to, and i try to accept the fact that i don’t know what the future holds. i most definitely rest, distract myself with things i enjoy, and try to shut my brain off when i need to✨ . r e c i p e🥣 1/3 rolled oats 1 tbsp chia seeds 1/2 diced banana (fresh or frozen ) 2 scoops probiotic cacao protein @nuzest_usa (link in bio for discounts ) enough hot water (or nut milk ) to mix 🌀stir well 🌙leave in a sealed container overnight 🌞in the morning, add toppings and enjoy✨ . #WAKEUPgoals

While I was working at a children’s hospital in Texas I realized so many of the patients I saw had preventable nutrition problems! When I moved to Canada and reflected on that time, I realized as parents and guardians we are expected to just “know” a lot of things about feeding kids. I used to be a very “head up” person existing purely in the buzzy space from my neck upward and ignoring everything below unless I got sick. I was all about the ascent, favoring practices and habits that brought me outside of my body. Transcendent meditation and alcohol to name a few of my particular favorites. A lot of teachers say that the longest journey is the six inches from the head to the heart and even longer to the base of the spine. Through my own feminine embodiment and embracing practices that actually bring me into my own body, I’ve come such a long way in how I experience the world, stress, self-image and spirituality - taking the long journey down and back over and over again. I used to want to reach enlightenment, to be done with the world and all the material aspects of human life. I think a part of me hated myself so much that I just couldn’t sit with my own body in the physical world. Now, I can’t imagine going a day without checking in with myself and practicing deep self-love through physical, mental + spiritual practices that hold me in reverence for myself. All of the parts of myself feel melded together; not existing as a separate mind/body/spirit - I am just Danielle, fully embodied. My body is my spirit, there is no separation. Some days I mess it up, but I return home to my body now instead of trying to escape it. But, right now it can be difficult to stay consistent with any practice or develop a ritualized set of practices to create safety + calm + balance - if you’re struggling with fear or detachment and can’t seem to get a grip on your normal schedule - you’re not alone. I am also struggling to find balance with it all but finding some solace in fluid movement + herbal allies. How are you doing? What’s keeping you afloat? P.S.
