Do handstand holds actually improve your ability to do a handstand ? Depends on your ability to get your : -shoulders overhead -T spines ability to extend - pelvis ability to tuck . . AND MOST IMPORTANT the ability for these structures to relate to each other. What’s natural and easy for one athlete isn’t necessarily the same for the other. We can use cookie cutter regressions for athletes that won’t respond to movements we force upon them . . For this online client , we actually barely spent any time on this position. Instead we built his shoulders ability to go over head , we then conditioned his shoulders and mid back to fire while his arms were overhead , worked on his pelvic ability to tuck in other movement patterns. We got into similar shapes but did a dynamic push-up or planche of sorts instead. The more we worked on this , the easier the handstand position became. If we just forced him here and held forever , we could force him to impinge or further injure his shoulders. There’s no need to rush into the skill you are desiring. Instead find all the ways your body is resistant to moving there. Create ability at each joint , then create connection between them . . Then the performance of the athlete goes up naturally. We aren’t forcing it for cool points. It just unravels , and we dont have to take 2 steps forward and 10 back . . . We will continue to improve #trainlifefitsteves ability to invert through means that don’t necessarily resemble holding forever. This will just be the cherry on top.
