// @megawheeze 🍕for thought. ✊🏼 // @blairimani • On looting. Capitalism requires that we care more about property than human lives. Black people in the United States used to be considered property until the end of chattel slavery. Today, a CVS or a Target receives more protection and insurance than a Black life. A smashed window calls more outrage than a shattered spine. We shame the looters as a distraction from what caused their outrage in the first place. America was built on stolen land. Built by a stolen people. Spare me the hysterics over microwave oven. Looting is what filled nearly every prestigious history museum in the Western world. Are y’all anti-looting now? Are y’all returning artifacts? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #nojusticenopeace #byanymeansnecessary #byanymeans #arthistory #justice #justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforbreonnataylor #art #looting #artifacts #museum #artworld #publicart #forthepeople

Sarah Ball (Born:1965 ) | American artist whose works are intricate and diminutive painted portraits taken from various photographic archives. In their distinct iterations and across decades, each archive delves into ideas surrounding 19th Century physiognomy - which was a widely explored and believed notion that there was a connection between an individual’s outward appearance and their inner character - in essence good people ‘looked good’ and bad people ‘looked bad’. This research progressed to include Alphone Bertillon’s identification system. Bertillon was a French police officer and biometrics researcher who applied the anthropological technique of anthropometry to law enforcement, creating an identification system based on physical measurements. Explorations of Ball's research based approach to her find her subjects has led to bodies of work dealing with police 'mugshots', immigrants traveling through Ellis Island and mid 20th century Romanian portraits. The newest works push the Bertillon system by collating several different sources that "ask" the viewer for a response.

When people think about Ancient Roman buildings, they usually think of Italy. But in fact, due to the enormity of the empire, there are ruins all over Europe. The city of Nîmes in the south of France has some of the best preserved Roman ruins anywhere outside of Rome itself. One of these buildings is the Maison Carrée. It was built between 4-7 CE and dedicated to the adopted grandsons of Emperor Augustus, Gaius and Lucius Caesar. (Sadly, they both died young ) . . . This temple is considered to be one of the finest examples of Vitruvian architecture. Vitruvius designed a temple plan and this building follows it almost exactly. It is very balanced, the Maison Carrée is a rectangular shape that is twice as long as it is wide. The porch is open, but as the building goes back, the columns become engaged on the walls. The interior is windowless and quite plain, this would have housed the shrine. The exterior is decorated with carvings of various plants. . . . #ancientrome #rome #temple #romantemple #maisoncarrée #nimes #nîmes #arthistorian #accessiblearthistory #arthistory #historyofart #arteducation #museums #instafineart #instamuseums #instaarthistory #artoftheday #masterpiece #culture #culturalheritage #workofart #arthistorymatters #arthistorystudent

#valledelloira #abbey #religious_art_details #be_one_sacro #takemetochurch_ig @ars .sacra @lacamaradelarte #vivoartworld @the .art.historian @carlaorzati_artlover #quiriters #arthistory #monumental_world #museide #ig_monumentalworld #total_art_gallery #luxury_allworld #architectural_ornamentation #world_bestangels #total_europe #amazingshots_arte #endlessartlover #yourcastles #manor_n_castle @palacesandcastles #amazingshots_castle #chateauxfrancais #castlesandchateaux #leroilouisxiv

Studies have found that museum visitors spend an average of 8 seconds looking at a piece of art. What happens when we spend more time with an artwork’s details? . Pictured here is Thomas Cole’s 1833 painting, “Catskill Scenery.” At first glance, this scene may appear as a presentation of rugged wilderness, but much human activity hides within the wooded hills. As an early environmentalist, Cole was interested in exploring the ways in which human civilization encroaches upon untouched nature. What do you notice happening within this composition? . Cole could hardly have envisioned that 187 years after he painted this composition, “Catskill Scenery” becomes almost an advertisement for social distancing activities – including canoeing, fishing, hiking, and sheltering at home. Perhaps we can find solace in spending time with this painting, remembering the peace nature offers to us, even in the most anxious of times. . Check out our Instagram story to reveal and explore this painting’s details and visit thomascole.org/slowlooking to learn more about “slow looking” from home! This activity was created by Amanda Malmstrom, Assistant Curator. Painting: Thomas Cole, Catskill Scenery, 1833, oil on canvas, 24 1/2 x 32 3/8 in., Eliza McMillan Trust, Friends Fund, and funds given by Mr. and Mrs. John S. Sargon of Akkad who ruled the Akkadian Empire from 2340-2284 BC was a man whose origins are wrapped in mystery. The humble son of a gardener, Sargon was said to have ascended to the kingship by the will of the gods. “Sargon” was in fact not even his real name, but a title which meant “true, rightful king”. Sargon’s real name is thought to be Sharrukan. During his reign Sharrukan build the great city of Akkad which became the capital of the Akkadian Empire and defeated his rival Lugalzagesi, ruler of Uruk to the south. Upon defeating Lugalzagesi, Sharrukan paraded him in chains all the way to gate of Enlil at Nippur. After this victory Sharrukan went on to defeat the other powerful city states in the region including Ur, Lagash, and Umma bringing them all into what would become the worlds first known empire. To unify the many different people and cultures of his new empire he standardized the East Semitic dialect and adapted it with cuneiform, which was the style of writing in his time. Unfortunately, many things about him remain a mystery including the city of Akkad which is now buried deep beneath the sands.. its secrets lost to time . . . . . . . . #history #middleeast #jordan #art #painting #arthistory #facts #wisdom #architecture #drawing #poetry #poem #museum #book #bookstagram #warrior #archaeology #travel #knowledge #philosophy #darkart #teacher #mma #studygram #study #science #artwork #poet #poems #bronze

📣🔝🔝FAI IL TUO SCATTO ALL’ARTE E I MIGLIORI VERRANNO PREMIATI NELLA NOSTRA GALLERIA 🔝🔝📣 Gallerie amiche: Segui @thehub_art #picoftheday #artgallery #art_spotlight #artaddicted #visititaly #painting #art #ars_sacra #art_lovers #art_daily #italy #arthistory #architecture #volgoarte #art_lovers #artofinstagram #ig_art #artofinstagram #museum #igersitalia #italy_trip #historical #museumgram #catalogodarte #beniculturali30 #italia365 #museiitaliani 🔄 #italiainart
