Take a moment. What do you need? Let's start with connection. Connection with ourselves. Connections with trusted people. Do we need 10 minutes alone? Do we need to reach out to someone we trust? Do we need some fresh air? Do we need to give our feelings some space to exist? Hiding and dismissing our feelings does not get rid of them. I was prescribed and anti-depressant drugs for asthma. 🤯 After not sleeping properly for a week, struggling to breathe, gone without the ability to exercise, numerous visits to emergency hospital and doctors with no answers....I was so exhausted & emotionally drained that I truly believed my doctor when he said it was ‘all in my head’. I was taking Valium and prescribed anti-depression medication to treat asthma and anxiety related asthma... I said no to anti-depressants when that’s what was prescribed me because I knew that wasn’t and isn’t going to be me. This week has been such an eye opener, I know so many more people who have or could have been feeling as vulnerable as me at that stage may have chosen the pills because they promise you a quick fix and absolutely you’d choose them because you so badly want to feel yourself again. I’ve now had a few good nights sleep, taken off all the medication and I’m feeling myself again. It makes me absolutely terrified that on Thursday I could of created a long relationship with anti-depressant medication when all I needed was a few days of rest and reassurance from a doctor that I’m okay. I am not saying our health care system is bad or that you shouldn’t take anti-depressants if you need them but rather to just create awareness on how easily this medication is being thrown around. I am so thankful for that last bit of mental strength I had to know that wasn’t right for me and so grateful to wake up today and feel grounded again. 💕

PT 1: Well it turns out you kind of can. Except instead of a cake it would be a plate of protein, vegetables and potentially wholegrains. Mood disorders including anxiety and depression are affected by levels of neurotransmitters in our brain, the most hyped of which are serotonin and dopamine. However, there are many others involved in brain activity like GABA, adenosine, acetylcholine, and taurine, which are calming, and glutamate and histamine that are stimulatory. Each of these neurotransmitters depend on our consumption of specific proteins (amino acids ) and nutrient cofactors. If we don’t consume these in our diet, we simply don’t have the necessary building blocks to produce these neurotransmitters. Therefore it’s no wonder that mental disorders are so common considering how sh*t the common western diet is. Here is serotonin as an example (important for mood, sleep, eating behaviours, pain threshold, + more ) with food sources of the cofactors involved in it’s production. Note: many of these nutrients are depleted by high alcohol consumption, chronic stress, and the oral contraceptive pill, and depend on a working digestive system for absorption from food. Do you get anxiety attacks too? 💁‍♀️⠀ .⠀ #LetsBeReal ⠀ .⠀ For the past few weeks I haven’t been really feeling like myself.⠀ My body is out of balance and amongst other reasons, it’s because of the fear and anxiety I’ve been feeling on a daily basis.⠀ .⠀ I thought long and hard about whether I should post this or not but if it helps even ONE person, then my job is done 🙏⠀ Even though I am a coach and have a ton of resources, I’m still a human and a work in progress 💁‍♀️💖⠀ .⠀ I want you to know that it’s ok to be afraid.⠀ Anxious.⠀ Have panic attacks.⠀ Freak out.⠀ Be terrified.⠀ .⠀ How could you not be?! This is all so weird and out-of-the-movie like! And above all, it’s the uncertainty that’s super uncomfortable for those of us who are control freaks 💁‍♀️ (yep, that’s me! )⠀ .⠀ The things is - stop ignoring the fear, the anxiety.⠀ Because it’s just gonna come back with an even bigger splash and boom and bang 💥⠀ .⠀ Wanna know how to *actually* deal with the fear? 🦄⠀ .⠀ 1. Acknowledge it - accept and admit that you are afraid (every person is afraid of smtng, and ignoring it or denying it doesn’t help you )⠀ 2. Decide to focus on the good - on everything GOOD that’s happening right now and everyone and everything you DO have in your life⠀ 3. Do tapping or journaling or meditating to actually SHIFT your emotional state - because just knowing that you are afraid won’t do anything #Fact ⠀ 4. Rinse and repeat as often as you need⠀ 5. Go about your life 💖🙏⠀ .⠀ You are NOT crazy, or weird, or weak because you feel this way. 💖 You are simply a beautiful human being 😃⠀ .⠀ Just start dealing with it so it doesn’t come back with a bang or shows up in your body. #DoItForYou ⠀ .⠀ P.s.: this is an old photo of me, seeeeveral years ago by the amazing @majasuklje 🙏 everything I’m describing is expressed in this photo 💖

Our attachment style influences how we experience trust & safety. For those who identify with traits of anxious attachment, it’s common to oscillate between patterns of giving or overgiving, feeling resentment, expressing a need or demand & experiencing temporary relief. These behaviors are often rooted in a deep fear or abandonment - we may subconsciously give from a place of wanting to create security & ensure the other person will not abandon us [giving can refer to investing time/energy, physical affection, etc.]. When the giving is not reciprocated or there are setbacks in the relationship, we might experience “primal panic” launching us into spirals of anxiety, self-doubt and fear of loss [as we are trying to control or get ahead of the possibility of loss or being abandoned]. Because attachment styles are not fixed, the anxiously attached can also experience traits of avoidant attachment & vice versa. Knowing your boundaries around giving can be a helpful way to create safety before committing to a relationship.
