One definition of courage is “strength in the face of pain or grief”. Personal dramas seem small fry compared with the current state of the world but the cycle of life, death and fears continue, regardless of pandemics or riots. Whatever your pain or grief is right now, no matter how public or private, may you find the courage you need to sit with your feelings.
Therapy cat is sick of lockdown. It’s his permanent state, being a life long indoor cat. Today he’s hankering for the great outdoors, and the best he’s offered is a cuddle on my lap at the open door. Are you hankering for more? Change is coming. Patience my friends, patience. What do you do when you’re craving something that you can’t have right now?
Mulling over a lot things on my walk today and what did the universe show me? Hearts everywhere! ❤️ ‘Heart-centred business’ is what I’m about. But what the heck does that mean? ❤️ In naturopathic and mentoring consultation, I work from both my head and heart. I always aim to turn up with my full concentration and be present. ❤️ My brain applies critical reasoning and my heart asks ‘where are you struggling’. ❤️ We all struggle; wrestling with physical, emotional or even existential pain. ❤️ Often a situation presents where my brain might say ‘this is a straight forward nutrition issue’ but the heart cuts in with ‘but her whole relationship with food is fraught - if we focus just on what to eat or not eat, it may compound the struggle’. ❤️ In business I might notice that a practitioner is really stuck. They aim to do a simple task, such as complete their overdue tax return but months tick by with no real progress. Telling them to just do it, or cajoling with how good they’ll feel once is done probably won’t change anything if the problem stems back to self-worth or their relationship with money. Doing their bookwork is just a symptom, not the root cause. ❤️ Sometimes acknowledging the struggle, naming it and sitting with it, is part of the process to move forward. Stillness sometimes trumps action! ❤️ What does your heart need today?
Online workshop 28.5.20 for health practitioners. As restrictions ease will you be returning to clinical practice in the same way as before, a blend of both in-person and online consultation or is it time to pivot, with a total revamp of your offerings? Are you clear about your next step, or would you like some prompts to explore other possibilities? The gift of Covid may be reinvention, refinement, realignment, or simply confirming your previous choices, so you can move forward with confidence. This is an interactive workshop suitable for all modalities. Booking link in bio or go to gillstannard.com.au
With the easing of restrictions in NSW tomorrow (and around Australia and NZ ), it’s time to evolve some of my iso-routines. I’ve loved catching up with you on the weekday Facebook and Insta ives, and will continue to share updates, supports and healthy tips - just not every day. While most of my lockdown habits will remain in place, I’m ready to reclaim my days off for long walks and lunches in the parks again. 🚶 The crisis is not over, and I hope you, like me, continue to remain cautious and work from home if possible. 🚶 Tune in today (Thursday ) at 1pm AEST/3pm NZ for how to stay well through this easing of restrictions and share the habits you want to continue in daily life. 🚶 All the Lives are archived on Youtube (link in bio ). And of course, online health and business continue as usual. See you soon.
Inspired or not? Kicked the lockdown apathy today with a long walk. It’s chilly in Sydney in the morning but feeling cold means you’re alive ,right? It’s time to widen horizons, break out of the mundane and plan your next step. Be it health (stop ignoring that niggling chronic condition ) or business (practitioners CAN reinvent the way you work, it doesn’t have to be a return to the same old ). Get inspired. See link in bio for more.
Weekday Live back tomorrow, when my staycation’s over! In the meantime I’ve recorded a couple of conversations with @airdre_grant about spirituality, pantheism. naturopathic education, death, grief and….pole dancing! They’re up on my YouTube channel (link in bio or search Gill Stannard Naturopath ). Enjoy!
This weeks haul from @hillviewfarmsaus Looks so good! What should I cook? [Scroll down to the link if you’re in Sydney and would like 20% off your first order.] This cost $35 (but included a few freebies this week ).As much as I enjoy shopping at Orange Grove market early on Saturday morning a gift of lockdown is discovering You can order directly from the farm! I can’t usually get through enough on my own to meet the $50 min for free delivery, so I’ve now got my neighbours onto it. We choose what we want and divvy up accordingly. Hillview farm is in Batlow and they also source produce from family and friend's farms throughout NSW. It’s always super fresh and though not certified organic, it’s grown sustainably without synthetic chemicals So when you buy from these guys you cut out the middle man and support the farmers directly. Plus they donate 10% of your spend to some great charities including to Batlow Bushfire Recovery. These guys had a really tough summer! If you’re in Sydney and would like to try them, Hilliview will give you 20% off your first order - if you use this link! Feel free to share the love. https://cutt.ly/veg
The spot I have some of my best thoughts, chats, journalling, breakfasting (away from devices ), cat patting. Love sunny autumn mornings on the clinic doorstep, now the world is quieter and we have more time to say hello. Has your favourite spot changed, if you’re now WFH or spending more time around the house?
