The Gentlemen: After two disappointing studio blockbusters, Guy Ritchie returns to the British-Gangster genre that put him on the map to begin with. While not on the same level as Lock Stock, Snatch or RocknRolla, The Gentlemen bolsters enough of the classic Guy Ritchie tropes and an exquisite pedigree of talent to make it an entertaining romp. The cast is what makes this movie. Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant make for marvellous rogues, while Michelle Dockery and Jeremy Strong shine in supporting roles. The story offers a good abundance of twists and thrills, even from the opening. This is not a movie you can start 10-15 minutes after it originally starts and expect to know everything as it goes along. If you know Ritchie’s brand of storytelling, you have to start from the beginning and follow through to the closing shot. Overall, The Gentlemen is an exquisitely entertaining romp from Guy Ritchie. While not on par with his earlier work, there’s enough to ensure it leaves you feeling entertained. The Gentlemen: @guyritchie 's return to the gangster genre is frenetic, twisty and completely unconventional for a story that is VERY conventional. The story is that Mickey Pearson ( Matthew Mcconaughey ) wants to sell his reefer business to a Oklahoma billionaire but it isn't that easy and a whole lot of chaos starts happening which brings us new characters that get entangled into this mayhem . That one 2 minute clip y'all probably witnessed is not a spoiler believe me watch it because you'll be fine . The movie feels like might need decaf for all the rigmarole it puts you through to show you how clever and slightly meta it can be , spicing up events to make the movie more exciting and movie business talk . All the talk about this movie being hilarious is such bollocks since there's only a few times it was either amusing or mildly funny . The performances are good especially Hugh Grant ( who should tell stories more often ) and Colin Farrell ( who is just great 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 ) . If you are easily offended and of Asian descent, i don't know how you're going to handle this movie because if you are asian you get a horrible wrap . I wasn't bored but when it comes down to it , the execution is the only reason the story pops at all cause the story by itself is extremely standard . Overall : See it if you are a Guy Ritchie gangster comedy fan, if you aren't then just stay home or have your bestie just act out the movie for you .

Saw The Gentlemen last night. It was a great movie that was a directed and written phenomenally by Guy Ritchie. I loved how great the dialogue between the characters was and all the actors were great in it especially Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell and Matthew McConaughey. If you were a fan of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch you will be a big fan of this movie #thegentlemen #matthewmcconaughey #colinfarrell #charliehunnam #hughgrant #henrygolding #michelledockery #guyritchie #movie #movies #films #film #moviereview #moviereviews #reviews #review #2020 #stxentertainment #mjr #collectibles #filmcommunity #moviebuff #filmbuff

Stars of The Gentlemen, Hugh Grant and Charlie Hunnam talk about director Guy Ritchie's unique process of having the actors read through the entire movie in front of a black curtain. Some magic must happen in that extra step because he makes great films! Finally saw The Gentlemen last night and as expected, was not disappointed. Clever, funny, and of course, styled to the f×××ing nines. Since you'll see the fashion for yourself when you watch the movie, I wanted to point out some off-the-set jewelry I spotted. Love me a pinky ring and Charlie Hunnam's recent two-ring pinky stack is... what was it Hugh Grant's character said... "double bubble"? Then I spotted Matthew McConaughey's gold ensemble - simple, classic, cool. I do think his figaro link bracelet is a smidge too long but I'm nitpicking (the eagle-eyed will notice he's wearing a pinky ring on both hands ). I noticed later that Hunnam seems to be wearing the exact pinky stack again; I haven't been able to find out any more/get more detailed images, but his longtime girlfriend is a jewelery designer, so it's possible she had a hand in one or both. I also wouldn't mind rocking Michelle Dockery's medallion... 😎 #gold #mensjewelry

The Gentlemen is a wonderful return for Guy Ritchie to the British gangster genre that is an absolute blast from start to finish. I didn’t know what to expect from this film walking into the theatre last name, I had seen the trailer once and it didn’t do much for me but seeing the name Guy Ritchie attached to it was more than enough to get me there on opening night. And I had so much fun with this film! The story is nothing new, but the way Ritchie tells the story through Hugh Grant’s investigation and black mailing of Charlie Hunnam’s character provides such a unique point of view for the story to unfold. I do admit it took me about twenty minutes to get used to the fast cut backs and forth from Grant and Hunnam to the actual story, but once the film reveals its plot more at the half hour mark, the transitions flow much more smoothly and it’s actually a lot of fun. Grant is in his element having the time of his life being this over the top investigator trying to extort £20 million from Matthew McConaughey. Hunnam is brilliant opposite Grant, and the two of them have some brilliant dialogue in the film and watching them go head to head is so much fun. The entire cast is having a great time playing these gritty gangsters, swearing non-stop, and it’s infectious on the audience. The only weak performance is McConaughey who is acting like he is in a Lincoln commercial, but strangely enough it fits his character well and does not distract from the enjoyment of the film. And Michelle Dockery’s cockney accent is a blast and she is the perfect female performance alongside the all male cast. The film has lots of laugh out loud moments and it makes for a fun theatre viewing experience. The scene with Phuc is absolutely hilarious and is a strong contender for one of the funniest scenes of the year, and it’s only January for heaven’s sake! However, if you’re not one for lots of swearing, this might not be the film for you, because this is a British film so the c word is thrown around a lot. (continued in the comments below )

Gangster films need very special care when crafting. Storytelling should be the prime focus of a gangster film as they often juggle numerous names, times, locations and events, which are normally exchanged through scene after scene of conversation. Action within gangster films is sparse for many reasons, therefore is rarely a focus. As countless conversations take place, dialogue must be sharp and precise. The structure of a gangster film normally takes the form of recalling the past until we are caught up with the present, then are allowed a little taste of the future before it wraps up nicely. So its no surprise The Gentlemen does this as well but in a forgettable, watered-down way that leaves you the same person as you were before you sat down to watch the cunt. . The film is enjoyable and entertaining, but that’s really all. Guy Ritchie has presented the world with a rather paint-by-numbers fictional gangster film that does all that’s expected in a decent way, but masks its simplicity with a swanky British style and a filthy script ridden with naughty words and phrases to make everyone chuckle and forgive the fact this film is very empty. The story, which involves the dealings of drugs, rival gangs and such, is literally told by a single character throughout. Hugh Grant’s camp as fuck private investigator Fletcher tells the story, of which he wrote into a screenplay, to another character (of which Charlie Hunnam averagely plays as usual ). Audiences are given the set up of each scene, then shown the event itself which then returns to the two having a chat. This happens almost the entire way through until a bunch of twists happen that attempt to mask the narratives simplicity AGAIN but end up being anticlimactic and falling flat. It’s not a bad story, just nothing of worth really happens. The film is just an exploration of different classes in England, heavily seasoned with comedy whilst Guy Ritchie tries to slip in as many cunts as he can into the dialogue. (continued-> )

I’m back from Holiday now, I wanted a few days to adjust to being home before I made another review, but here we are and I’ve been really excited to talk about this one. Shall we get on with it then? The Gentlemen is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Matthew McConaughey as drug empire head Mickey Pearson as he tries to sell off his extremely profitable marijuana business to a a man named Matthew played by Jeremy Strong. But when outside parties begin to get involved in trying to take the business for themselves, bullets start to fly, lies begin to spread, and an array of plots and schemes start to be set in motion. I’ll be honest in saying that I was excited to check this out from the first trailer alone, I’ve been waiting for a Guy Ritchie film that I was going to really love. I was waiting for the old Snatch days to make a resurgence, and thank god they have because The Gentlemen is absolutely brilliant. This is one of those few films I really haven’t been able to stop thinking about, it’s got everything you would want from a story like this and more. The performances are genuinely perfect for this story, especially Matthew McConaughey who feels like he should’ve always been in a Guy Ritchie gangster flick. Mickey Pearson’s job in this film is to feel like a force to be reckoned with, and McConaughey delivers that and more. The entire supporting cast is great, from Charlie Hunnam to Colin Farrell everyone has their own little quirks that make or break their characters, not one performance feels phoned in and I think there is a chance that some of them are remembered in the same way as some of the characters in Guy Ritchies precious films, especially Hugh Grant who is endlessly quotable. The writing is absolutely top notch, it’s almost impossible to not have fun with it. It’s exactly the kind of English humour that I find absolutely historical, yet there was still a sense of tension and urgency sprinkled through this wonderfully crafted screenplay. This film is able to balance tones in the same way that waiters balance plates, it’s incredibly impressive and a treat to watch. - Final Comments in Comments
